This sounds like salty killer mains have been complaining about hatch 😏 when all gens are powered killers don't just lose, they get a chance for kills. Hatch is the same for survivors, they lost but one gets a chance at living. "But killers have endgame perks it's completely different!" Survivors have endgame perks as well that specifically make it harder to be found looking for hatch and where the hatch is.
modern hatch is just fine imo.
it's not a free team out like it was years back, people can't DC just to give their last team member hatch; now days it's a fair deal:
the killer has already won by this point (usually), and both players have equal information on where it is. all killing the last survivor will really achieve is extra bp, and the survivor merely gets to pause their MMR if they escape instead of die.
Realizing you didn’t play before knight came out, You would hate the old hatch mechanic 😭 it used to spawn in when there were 2 survivors left, 3 survivors (1gen), or it would spawn at 4 survivors and no gens. and you could open it instantly with a key and had no animation to open it.
Trust me when I say, it used to be a lot worse. Atleast now it’s a 50/50 chance.
I swear there’s been so many instances where the last survivor just INSTANTLY gets the hatch or are just extremely close to it. People say the hatch has no coding to it but in pretty damn sure it’s coded to where it’s the closest to survivors.
I doubt they’ll ever remove hatch, and no it’s not cause “bEhAViOr doEsNt LIsTeN to uUuUuUsSsSsS”, it’s because the hatch has lore implications and it’s been here since like, the start of the game. And personally I don’t want it to go, I think it needs some changes but I think it could work. I’d add 2 changes, add a fog within a 20 meter radius of the hatch that gets thicker the closer you are (Id also remove the fog offerings but that aside the hatch fog would be thicker and more concentrated than the offering fog). The other would be to make it to where it spawns as far away from both the killer and survivor simultaneously as it can without spawning in a corner or smth
Do you think making the Killer Adept challenges a 3k and having the hatch immediately force the survivor out once they reach a certain threshold will work? I honestly also really like the idea of rewarding both sides if a survivor does escape through hatch. For the survivor, they keep their escape bonus and for the killer they get a "splattered" bonus, insinuating it wasn't quite the escape the survivor hoped for. I think it perfectly fits in with the lore of the Entity just messing with both sides.
I just hate how many aspects of this game reward gameplay that doesnt take skill and things of that nature
Only thing i think should change is if the last remaining survivor is slugged when hatch spawns it should spawn as close as possible to them. Slugging for the 4k is lame
I would say Wraith and Onryo are the two best killers that fit the description of good on map pressure, not the best in 1v1s. Yes both of their powers can be used to aid them in a 1v1 but both of their powers are better suited for getting around the map quickly and stealthily. A majority of the other killers powers are chase oriented first map control second.
In all honesty I like hatch where it is with a few quality of life changes such as making in louder when it is in very loud areas and giving it better spawns so it doesn't spawn in the middle of nowhere where it can never be found. I AM LOOKING AT YOU SWAMP!!!

i think they should just remove the hatch, keys and hatch offerings all together and simply make exit games 75% faster to open if there's one survivor left.
I would have both killer and survivor would be able to see the aura of the hatch. And see who gets to it first.
Hatch is sort of a pointless mechanic in modern day DBD. I mean, I'm not gonna spend more time slugging and finding the last guy crouching in a corner with distortion when I can just go next. I won, they know I won, if they want their handful of bonus bloodpoints that bad, they can have them.
I cannot express how BORING some games are because of how much some survivors desperately want hatch.
I was playing killer once on Hawkins and the last two survivors were constantly hiding for the hatch.
I was searching for one of them for 40 minutes…40 MINUTES

As someone introducing new players to the game in the year 2024 some of our most exciting moments have been a slow crawl towards a hatch. The Discord call erupting in shouts and hollars at the midnight hour as all consideration of moderating silence and sound for our neighbors go out the window. An eruption of cheers as they get close and the absolute heart wrenching moment when the killer rounds the corner to close it. Only for our newest player to slither through in time and promptly clean the shit out of their pants cementing a memory forever.
As a killer getting the 3k was and always will be enough. You won. The 4th kill was and is easy. Catching a survivor 1v1 isn't a feat and is only something that sweaty comps do in custom games to see how good they are at looping/catching. It works for a more ranked dbd but not for the more casual player.
The current hatch system is indeed a gamble but a gamble that can reward a player down on their luck. Roll the dice and even enough bad games under your belt you might see one of them reward you with a prize of hatch. Necessary for escaping challenges, and some peoples mental health, the gamble of the hatch is fine. I do think they could add a visual indicator like they have opt'd to with the heart for terror radius.
Hatch is dumb it feels like a pity door I'd just implement the end game Mori when the 3rd survivor dies

the only thing I hate abt the hatch is how it tend to spawn at the edges of the Swamp maps. But tbf it's Swamp's problem, not Hatch. Other than that, I don't really think, that Hatch should be changed. I find current variant to be both fun and thrilling at the same time. And I don't see how it is a problem
I think the hatch is fine as it is. The hatch is a pretty great mechanic for a difficult game like dbd. Nothing is as funny as the hatch spawning in your face. It also gives the survivors a last bit of extra hope. I find finding the ''need'' to 4k unnecessary. I would even say they could change maps so you can maybe find the hatch with some addon. Or even keys. That be a nice change. Making these items a bit more viable all around for soloq.

I was thinking that there should be a kind of aura reveal for the hatch for the last survivor and killer kind of like how the gate auras get shown. Just so you can find it easier.

A hatch concession feature would be a good way to fix the hatch. There’s no point in getting that 4th kill asides from wanting something after wasting several minutes so it’d be great to just give the meaningless escape and go next. If you don’t want to participate, then don’t.
a killer who does suffer in the 1v1 is legion, their power its dependent on chaining between multiple people to be powerful, and in the 1v1 its at best just a free injure
i think a visual indicator for it like you mentioned in your spirit fix would be amazing cause i had no idea it even made a sound until you said it did
Secondary hatch spawn mechanic: Open hatch spawns when the gates are powered, but it closes if any survivor takes it or the killer closes it. Closed hatch blocks the exit gates for 30 seconds.
Hatch is fine. You don't gain or lose mmr if someone escapes thru it. Get over it
