tl;dr Pentimento is insanely strong but I don’t think it warrants a nerf, people just need to play around it better.

  1. Coming from someone who gets called an entitled survivor main on almost every comment they make on a yt video and a Mainly solo queue player: It's not too strong I think it's perfectly balanced when I see killers bring it I purposely break a dull totem and memorize where it is then everytime I see the icon pop up I got rebreak it

  2. What if Pentimento only cursed the player who cleansed the totem? So the players that do totems have to go back and rebreak them. If a second player breaks a totem and the killer lights it, they too will suffer pentimento and so forth. An interesting idea I was just thinking of.

  3. If it glows, it goes. I'm shit at chases already so making them even worse for me by not hearing a terror radius and getting surprised so that I go down fast, die, and give the killer an easy 3v1 early is also not gonna be helpful for the team and is still a loss, just a faster loss compared to penti. I'll take my chances of extending the game and doing my job of remembering where my totems I break are so that there's a better chance to overcome the penti and break all the totems.
Blood favor, devour, and new crowd control especially are must find hexes for me otherwise the game will definitely be shorter and a loss for survivors…

  4. "If the killer always leave after hooking, it is high chance they have devour hope"
me and other killers: We leave the hook cause we do not want to tunnel and actually want everyone to have fun

  5. To people that think Penti is OP:
It's activation conditions are extremely situational and forces the killer to build around or literally hope survivors cleanse dulls for some reason, so you're using AT LEAST 2 perk slots to get the effect in an average scenario, and you still aren't guaranteed it during an entire normal match that goes all the way to the EGC

  6. It's not like you can't recleanse the penti totem. Sure it is strong but i'd say its more of a case-by-case basis on whether its worth risking penti or not.
Eg, Ruin is still a strong perk on certain killers, eg singularity, so I'd always cleanse ruin vs singu. Plaything rarely is worth cleansing but on indoor maps it can potentially be worth cleansing. Especially if inner healing is used.

  7. If the existence of a perk is SO dangerous that you should never ever break totems just out of fear that the killer MIGHT have it, even going so far as to allow them to have other powerful hex effects unopposed when the balancing factor of hexes is that they can be cleansed, then yeah you have a perk that's too strong.

  8. I dont mind playing against Penti-Plaything since i kinda know where 99% of totems spawns can be at. Im always getting rid of pentimento so fast. I wish more killers brought it. It makes the game so much fun for me being on a scanvenger hunt instead of gens.

  9. “Just don’t break totems” is the killers version of “just wait it out”.
I love how when there is an OP survivor perk every killer main streamer makes a “this has to be nerfed it’s too strong” video, but if there is a killer perk that’s OP it’s videos about how survivors need to play different lol

  10. Have we ever managed to globally inform people of something on dbd? I don't think broadcasting "stop breaking totems" will have any meaningful impact. The second tip is great, except when people break dull totems so nobody gets a notification. The nerf I wish is getting a notification even when a dull totem gets broken. (is this currently in game? A friend told me he got an explosion when a dull totem got cleansed, but I thought it was a bug)

  11. Soooo you’d rather the killer have 3 other Hex totems that will “make the game go faster” which more then likely means the killer is getting easier downs.. rather than tweaking the perk a little bit?

  12. Pentimento is fine. HOW HARD IS IT TO KEEP TRACK OF EXPLODING TOTEMS? And even if there is a dull thats broken and nobody went back for it, thats on the survivors! I dont understand why this community wants their hand held all the time.

  13. Pentimento is fine given its activation conditions.

It is legitimately only in the spotlight because everything else that was stronger and more oppressive before has been nerfed, so now it sticks out more (which is just the result of things being balanced and change), and this is something that happens often in DbD due to how the devs conduct their balance changes.

  14. If every survivor just double checked a totem they cleansed after pentimento went up this wouldn't be a problem

Edit: The more I think about it, getting all survivors to double check cleansed hexes is probably just as viable as getting them not to cleanse at all

  15. Players only cleansing a Hex totem once is not a problem with Pentimento, that's a Skill Issue gone viral.
This is not an actual problem since Pentimento is (ironically) subject to the same exactly weaknesses every other Hex in the game is: Survivors having four times the action economy and map presence as the killer.

I can go on a long rant explaining how much of an idiotic non-issue this is, but since it's not worth my time I'll just leave with an amusing aside: Hex Haunted Ground exists SPECIFICALLY to create the same sense of doubt and de-incentivize Survivors to cleanse every lit totem they see, and yet, this mental gaslighting is magically no issue when that perk comes up.
Just an observation. One that will go classically ignored, no doubt…just like Hex Haunted Ground. Ahh, it's tragically poetic.

  16. So one of the solutions to this perk is treating every hex perk (which are designed to be way stronger than regular perks) like a regular perk and just not cleansing? So now the killer has 3 perk slots but theyre all hexes that are way stronger than your average perk lol. I think that means Pentimento is too strong. Its either the strongest slowdown perk or a guarenteed permanent undying for all your hexes (in your first solution) lmao

  17. I mean I already have general totem spawn knowledge, and map out totems as I see them. I had a game where i cleansed 3 hexes and the killer had pentimento, and each time they put up pentimento I instantly cleansed them again. The only problem would be solo queue, if you're not paying attention and the survivors cleansing the totems are just completely oblivious.
