No we cannot have furries in DBD.
As someone who's played this game for over six years now, what I miss the most is how the game used to look and *feel*, more than the gameplay. I remember vacuum pallets and all that other BS… I don't miss that stuff, but I do miss how the game felt darker and, I don't know, I miss the way the old maps used to look. I feel like some of the charm the game had before has been lost in the visual upgrades.
But at the end of the day I still play and have fun with it! I really do enjoy the game, despite the many balance issues that have and will forever plague the game in one way or another.
Playing dbd since 2018 before spirit and nostalgią away game now is much much much much much much better monetization of skins sucks but other than sbmm there wasnt really many Bad changes after nemezis came some Bad patches but still pretty okay lately. 2018 was definetly worse year than twins release or skull merchant. Game Got worse quote unquote because players Simply Got better thats all it is. I loved this game since it came out because i bought it in 2016 in alpha (ran like shit so i played little) and loved this game to this day. I bought ps5 simply because i wanted 60 fps in DBD. I had a break from this game only once legion release. Legion made me stop playing for half a year and there was not uptade SO Bad as legion SO yeah in conslusion: Old dbd worse, new better, Old seems better because players were Bad and sbmm was last Bad uptade the rest were fucking Fire atleast from fifth anniversery. Yeah very long sorry😅😅😅
it was better for me because all players were new and naive and we had to work out strats on our own and try and improve by trial and error, these days it seems like a large portion of players just copy the style of their favourite streamers,im not suggesting learning from better players isnt beneficial ofcourse but it always feels better when you work stuff out of your own accord..but is the game better now..YES..but the toxic chat is WAY WORSE
NO! The meta was so shit back in the day you had to run iron grasp and agitation since sabotages were permanent, there was no bloodlust meaning the infinites were ACTUAL infinites, you could unironically stay in front off the hooked survivor so that they PHYSICALLY couldnt rescue it even if they tried to (thats THE definition off FACECAMPING btw not this crap we have today thats just normal camping) nurse had more than 6 FUCKING BLINKS! You couldnt physically close the hatch (thankfully you could grab off the hatch but that was patched for obvious reasons), there was no endgame collapse so if survivors felt like it they could stay in the trial forever, NOED was not a hex till hag got released, shacks in VERY EARLY development had a chance off having 2 windows and no door, there were instablinds, brand new part instantly did a gen, trapper required 8 years to setup a single trap, ruin was so shit yet such a core perk its not even funny, red moris DIDNT require to hook a survivor at all,… to be frank this is isnt even ALL off it just the top off my head examples so yeah dbd did evolve into better and some veterans just have a nostalgia trip nothing more nothing less thank you for anyone that readed this far.
Tbh although people say that year 3 was good i still quitted the game during the Oni chapter
Now i don't remember why (i cam back during wesker chapter) but i remember that i had twisted emotion during the game like one match it was the best game of my life and the next one the worst.
So… i dunno i think there's no such thing as "peak moment" of dbd… at max there's the least annoying thats for sure but what matters is that untill the devs do the right thing and i have my share of fun its ok
I've been recommended videos from 2019 in DBD, and I genuinely wonder why people claim it was the best year of DBD. We had genuine insta-heals, instantly-done generators, old map generation with genuine infinites (which no one knew how to use, thank god).
I came back fully into DBD in 2021, and I think the best time of DBD was… literally between June and October 2021. It was when MMR just got implemented, but it didn't work at all, so the matches were more random, and it was far less competitive than it was today. It was also just before boons were implemented into the game. It's not in a good state right now, but a lot of other things are getting improved on.
But there are some things that I genuinely wished stayed the same, knowing what I know now.
who remembers hatch standoffs?!
Old dbd was a MESS XD been playing since like nurse came out
I don't know if i can call myself a DBD veteran, i started playing in 2018 on my ps4 around when Spirit came out. When i got the game for free from ps+ i was so hyped to play it because i am a horror game enthusiast and i was gonna play it with my friends and have so much fun, i remember how scared i was to even do a gen knowing the killer was nowhere to be seen and would get hide behind trees and in lockers because at that time the maps were way darker and the killer were actually terrifying to play against. I had lots of laughs throughout the years but quit soon after nemesis came around because the game was repetitive and my frames on ps4 were dropping like crazy on the updated maps, especially coal tower, and the game was not enjoyable at all. I switched to pc in january in 2022 and never bothered with dbd since, but a month or so ago i was scrolling through my old ps4 messages on the phone app and saw an old dbd vid of me and my friends on old thompsons house having fun and trying to learn how to loop a billy and how to flashy save which instantly made me curious to see what the game has been up to, so i googled it and watched some vids of the new killers and maps (started watching dbd related content after wesker came out) and got the game 2 weeks ago alongside my friends but unlike them i spent 100$ to get every dlc since there were discounts. I can honestly say that new dbd is fun, but definitely not as fun as old dbd, and yes old dbd had tons of glitches but that's what made dbd fun and scary for me. The old animation, pre nerf billy, bt being meta, i remember my main build: bt, dh, resiliance and spine chill, 3 of which got nerfed to the ground for me. Old dbd had more of that scary game that people enjoy and love, now when i play survivor i don't get scared that often but i play with the same mindset each time, do gens, take chase, save teamates, escape, repeat. I'm not saying that the current dbd is not fun, it is, in some ways, but most times it's just repetitive and not scary like it once was, i'm not saying old dbd was not repetitive, sure it was but back then you would get scared by anything especially when you saw the killer offering not showing because it was a mori. So in my opinion old dbd was indeed better than the current version of dbd even with it's flaws it was more fun and more scary. To answer the question i started playing again due to nostalgia mostly but also out of curiosity to see what has been improved.
I've been playing DBD after 2 months it released and holy f*ck back then i'd literally laugh my ass off if someone would tell me that Wesker is gonna be a killer in this game in a few years, i think even the devs said it that DBD used to just be a small indie project they made for Youtubers and streamers to mess around in with their friends.
Nah, the old days was just different metas and problems. If the game was perfect there would be no balance changes. Everyone complains no matter what.
Everyone just doesn't like the current set of problems. And yearn for the old days because they may genuinely not like the meta shake up.
Let me just put it like this most people do not give A FUCK about how someone else feels about the game. If it was fun to them and at that time no matter how broken and busted the game was clearly they had fun at that time. All you weird people be trying to put words in other peoples mouths like “y’all were all complaining at that time” 😂 no not everybody was complaining most people do not live on the Internet damn stop saying that stupid shit.
I would say the game was worse back then but the community was better.
Dbd died when they took out the limp animations and added chat filter, then was murdered when they removed flashlight clicking.
To ne honest that is why i still love the game because i take breaks regularly and play other games to keep dbd nice and fresh for me, Yes there is a lot of small issues with gameplay that a lot of people like to constantly bring up BUT i would say that most of the people whine are just burnt out cause they mostly or only play dbd right now. Taking a break is good ,switching games for a bit is also good cause it prevents you from burning out.
I started just before stranger things released, and have had my ups and downs since. But my favourite play times were between Oni’s chapter and Pyramid Head. When a bunch of new techs got out for survivor and it felt nice going up against those techs on killer because survivors didn’t expect you to know how to counter them. The only downside I’d say was the ranking system, but that’s always been an issue and still is.
As a loser with over 4 thousand hours in the game, I can summarize the issue with DBD very simply. There is a point in the game (usually around 250-500 hours) where the more skilled you get the less fun the game gets. Back in my day, no one was skilled because everyone was fairly new. That’s the main issue with the whole asymmetrical genre. Because of the fact that it is asymmetrical, it cannot be balanced perfectly, so people will always optimize the fun out of it. That’s why I stopped running only meta perks. It’s just legitimately unfun to play the game super sweaty and again, the more skill you have usually the less fun you have, if you don’t do something about it you will end up hating the game, or thinking back to the days where no one was skilled, so the game was much more fun.
First comment was a reply, but now I have to say. Release Freddy was ATROCIOUS. He couldn't attack survivors that were awake and his ONLY "power" was putting survivors to sleep (which gave them God-Mode for what felt like an eternity) and THEN he could attack them. The thing was… Literally ANYTHING could wake the survivors up, missed skillchecks for example. All the time. Just miss a gen or healing skillcheck and the survivor would just wake up, and Freddy would be back at square one. Oh good ol' Sharp Hand Joe, how we DON'T miss you.
chad for using Lavitz
Only nearly played for a year, so I can't answer. The fact that Killers had it worse is baffling that people want old dbd back.
A large complaint I have been seeing from veterans of this game is that even though the game was never "perfect" it wasn't a "boring/stale meta" like it is today. Even the last year where we had Onryo, Dredge, and Wesker was amazing, but then we got to Knight and Skull Merchant who feed off this gameplay loop that people are not enjoying, the "gen kick and gen slowdown and 3 gen camp" meta. It's boring for both sides to play, and even though going back in time would not necessarily take us to "better" times, we definitely do need a meta shakeup that brings us back the chases instead of humping the gens.
It's a meta that neither side enjoys and it makes games last forever, which is exhausting, unfun, and unrewarding gameplay. Survivors complete gens too fast because a lot of killers are too weak in chase, so killers bring gen slowdown and tunnel/camp to win, which has lead to the rose-tinted goggles mentality of wanting to bring back "the good ole days" where chasing was the meta and not AFKing around gens waiting for one side to give up.
I'm not burnt out, I just can no longer enjoy the toxic environment. I play siege and DBD, a lot. Both quiet toxic games, with their own problems. But with DBD Im forced to face the same kind of content nearly every match, when I only have a chance at fun on a killer I haven't touched in ages because the MMR system is up to date on them, makes it less and less fun to play my favorite killers. And I don't play survivor because, it's even more boring. I just want new game modes, a game mode without MMR, and maybe a game mode where I can ban one perk and the survivors can ban one perk too, new obstacles to have to over come as a killer, new objectives as a survivor, new objectives as killer, just something new and interesting, less rinse and repeat.
For me, Dbd hasn’t really changed gameplay wise. Balance wise, bug wise, and even server wise, it’s actually a lot smoother and consistent. And even though I’m a sucker for the old movement the current movement just feels nicer. And what I mean with balance is, everything is similar in level of strength now. Before there was such a huge difference there was no point in running certain builds at a high ranks, because it wasn’t likely you would get any use. I will say old dbd was so much more casual because of the ranking system and there was no MMR or “win condition” people were most of the time just vibing playing the game. It feels a lot more competitive now and I don’t think it was a good choice on the devs part to add MMR and a win condition. It kind of just encouraged the us vs them mentality and made the community worse in my opinion. But those are just my thoughts, I can’t speak for every veteran. (PS Killer was WAY harder back then and no one can change my mind about that.)
The real problem facing DBD is that they have reached the limits of what they can do with the engine and core mechanics
Predator is a great example of what’s wrong even if they were to add him to the game what would he do? Predator is known for stealth, agility and gadgets
However DBD with its extremely rigid mechanics won’t allow for Predator to be hopping out of trees and blasting people with a laser or that boomerang in DBD he’d likely play exactly like wraith
It was good and bad
People were new and everyone was actually hiding from the killers due to actual fear, the art style looked more unique, No perk bloat and people didn't figure out the meta instantly.
On the other hand, horrible balancing, only 4 survivors and 3 killers to choose from, nothing to stop camping and tunneling, Hooks and Traps were gone forever if you sabotaged them,
Absolutely horrible grinding, Insta-blind flashlights…
Despite all of that, I enjoyed it.
Honest to god I feel like the game has been in a better place than ever. The devs, after so long are more responsive to feedback than ever and they are doing more than ever to try and satisfy the playerbase (despite the disastorous launch of Skull Merchant, which they are aiming to fix). People are nostalgic for the old "look" of the game, and I'm just here thinking "this looks like shit". Everything was either piss colored or blue? Not even dark as people claim it, it just looked bad. Not to mention the fact that dark is not good. I already have issues not seeing anything on certain maps if I play when the sun is up outside, don't make the maps even more dark what the hegg. Visibility in general is the main reason people use filters and then these same "look of the game" people complain that people use filters. Gee I wonder why they use filters.
The game is better in some ways and worse in others, when a new game comes out the fun hasn't been optimized out of the game yet which is why people loved old dbd so much, it isn't the changes the devs made altogether, it was that the player base learned the most efficient way to win constantly because a loss will hurt their ego. The game has gotten progressively more and more sweaty on both sides and bhvr has done little in the way of actually dealing with problematic playstyles and a lack of attention toward the gameplay loop the game provides, survivors need more side objectives to complete during a match that will waste time but may give them an advantage later, killers need more time to chase without camping and tunneling and gen lockdown being overly feasible. A lot of perks are in a much better place than they were a year ago but because people want to sweat they still get no love like they should.
I be honest for me the game will always have its ups and downs but the main problem for this game is the toxic side of the community that is making it harder for me to enjoy, the continual need to instead just say GG and acknowledge that the other side did well even though you lost or vice versa and the need for people to just being either mad, insulting or just trying to make up for whatever. The sad part is that these people are not kids but grown adults. I get that there will always be "shit talk" during the match and that people do not like losing and can get mad at the game but get mad at the game this continual need to insult other players on a personal level and wishing others to end themselves or to get cancer is just not needed. If the game causes you to be this way uninstall.
Anyhow moving on that is my take I started just before demogorgan got removed and nothing really has changed for me apart from the community just gradually getting more and more childish and toxic. I think fix the community and the rest will be ok sure there is a lot of transparency issues with DBD but the community problems far outweigh those.
Im not exactly a veteran nor do I think old dbd was better but I will never forgive bhvr for nerfing deathslinger as hard as they did 😞. Old slinger was better.
I guess it's time to just move on at least for a little while.
I’ve played since release and… no. It was not better at all lol. I think I more consistently had fun casual games because it definitely felt more like a party game back then. However, the amount of bugs, glitches, etc. we’re terrible.
Hatch would never close. And there was no end game collapse. So once hatch spawned in the survivors just won.
Sprint burst and balanced landing used to have separate timers (exhaustion wasnt a thing) so survivors could have infinite chases since blood lust and window blocking also wasn’t a thing. And that’s just the start. Old borrowed time would protect the person unhooking (so you just tunneled more?), old doctor was so bad it was kind of funny, and so much more.
Don’t get me wrong the current game has its issues but it’s in one of the best positions it’s ever been in. I think the community is getting a little spoiled to be quite honest. Could it be better? Yes. Are there balance issues? Definitely. But overall, it’s in a much better spot and I feel like behavior has really found their rhythm even if they mess stuff up occasionally.
I started play about 2 years ago I loved the gameplay and it was fun to play with friends. Over time we all stopped playing and moved on, I think a lot about this game can be boiled down to it doesn't feel like it used to, I mained killer and played survivor whenever my boys were on but in the beginning I was terrified by the killer and that's why I loved it, in the way I used to love knowing the survivors were afraid of me when I played killer. I think that has been lost now by repetition. I can say for absolute certain that the game has gotten much more balanced, I hated seeing the same Ruin, Corrupt Intervention, Dead Hard, DS and all of that. I think the community being a lot more welcoming too I remember having a nice chat with someone who I genuinely jump scared playing wraith and he took it really nicely and gave me props, if I did the same thing now the survivor I did it to would say "holy shit such a cheese strat ***", or a different survivor would talk shit to them for getting jump scared and pulled off a gen.
This question is more than pertinent… I also came from Apex Legends, and I can confidently say it's one of my favorite games of all time, I clocked in 800 hours in combination of Origin + Steam launchers, and god do I remember everything you said, and I remember season 3 so well, because it was my favorite season to this day! I main Crypto since he was launched, I loved World's Edge and liked far better than King's Canyon at the time, but god do I remember the BITCHING about it. And then looking now at it, "Oh it was so much better back then", sure buddy, sure. Even I liked it, but there was a lot of problems back then that needed fixing, and thank god over time they did, so cut the reactionary bullshit because it doesn't really make sense.
As I arrived in the fog 4 months ago, when I bought the game to play 2 of my favorite villains of all time, Freddy Krueger and Albert Wesker, I was pumped, so pumped, and I saw how the community bitched about… pretty much everything. "Exhaustion perks this", "Regression perks that", good grief can we stop for a second? Are you guys even having fun anymore? And speaking of fun, don't even let me get this started on how more than half of the community weaponized that word agaist the other side. I also reminisced about Apex, and how we used to say back in the day "No one hates Apex Legends more than Apex Legends fans" and immediatelly thought of the DBD community, as it is so similar to Apex in many ways.
People get burned out and lose a true critical sense when they don't know when to quit, there's a lot to unpack on that, and I won't write a whole essay on that more than what I already wrote, but let's just put it "something something sunk cost falacy".
To me, after I clocked 308 hours on DBD currently, Im still having fun! I main Killer, I still get the same dumb smile when I hear Freddy's Laugh, or Wesker telling the poor survivor I dashed halfway across the map to catch that "Playtime is over." I have enjoyment of planning a good build and see it work it out either as I expected, or maybe not, but learn something from it. Much like when I played Apex, I used to have this same dumb smile when I heard Pathfinder say "I cannot wait to win this match, friend!", and many other quotes that made me love the characters, really similar to how I fell in love with DBD.
So… with all of that wall of text out of the way, there is no issue in taking breaks, and that does not mean that you need to HATE the thing, it's healthy even to take a good look and filter what is genuine problems, or what is you… just growing out of it. And that's ok! It's a video game for god sake, you don't own your soul to it! Go and play other things, discover new genres! New adventures and characters to fall in love with! And maybe, you will return to the one you started, with a fresh mind and remind yourself, why you liked it so much in the first place. 🙂
Hillbilly mains be like "ah I remember the good 'ol days were overheat wasn't a fu****g think and when he had good add-ons"
DBD was unbalanced however used to have extremely Dark map lighting and esthetics. Was more about stealth, now its less of a dark party game and more of a competitive mess.
I don't think there was ever a "Golden Era" for DBD. And im gonna be honest. As long as People try to play this Game competitively, its only gonna get worse.
People need to stopp taking this Game so seriously. Only going for Wins Kills all the Fun.
I was originally for a Ranked and a Quick Match Mode, but your Video kinda showed me that that might be a Bad idea.
I just wish there would be less People trying to win so hard. Its exhausting.
One thing i noticed: The bigger the Community, the more toxicity.
I really think old dbd was overall better, I think it was in it's best a little after the nurse rework and things started to get worse after the billy update. There is no denying that current dbd is more balanced, but it lost a lot of what made it good. Mostly because of killer and map design. Imagine living in a dbd world where you biggest fear was to be sent to Haddonfield, Yamaoka or Hawkings? There was 3 kinda boring killers (legion, spirit and deathslinger), in the majority of time you would go into a match with a killer that was fun to face.
Nowdays you can get Eyrie, Garden of Joy, 5 versions of badham, RPD, The game, Shaterred Square. You can get Artist, Trickster, Twins (lol), Blight, Spirit, Skull merchant, Knight, Pinhead, pre-nerf pyramid.
The quality of the match itself got really worse and a lot of problems from that time still persist but on top of new issues, and also they removed a lot of fun things of the past for boring alternatives.
My honest opinion, its a mixed up blurry bag.
I dunno if I can say there truly was a peak time but my mind goes either Stranger Things release or Pyramid Head release was the best moments. The game felt way more fun as the game felt weirdly less seriously, yet people still complained so much to it and for rightful things. Like dead hard being a pain, 60 second ds unbreakable, infinites and instant gens with BNPs. I think despite this, the game was still extremely fun and didn’t feel insanely competitive. It felt more like COD at the time and content creators were on the wild rise and making some amazing content to show and even offer for viewers to do. Perks and add ons were busted for both sides. I remember one time a group of TTVs came with 4 keys and 1 being a purple, the rest green and it was fun! But now nothing really feels fun and absurd as it all feels like everyone’s playing for their lives. Kind of like Yu-Gi-Oh. I think SBMM, hackers/cheaters, and changing everything of the game made it lose a lot of charm the game had. But yes, there has been SOOOOOO many game breaking bugs but it was goofy and more fun imo
Edit:killers were also more busted too. Insta-saw billy, omega nurse, 3 insta down hatchet huntress, forever freddy, etc.
Tl;Dr, the game use to feel less serious and more goofy and lost a lot of its charm over time through map changes and redesigns
as someone who played the game back in its golden age, i'd say it's mostly nostalgia. i can name numerous things that are objectively worse than now but made me like the game more. rn it feels a bit sanitised and polished like most other games. the animations and ui were janky, blatantly op stuff remained in the game (permanent hook/trap sabo, instablind, old ds, old bnp etc), i mean i was a survivor main so ofc i loved how the game was, but i can genuinely attribute my best memories in gaming with dbd.
I started playing in late 2020, and I can say I've only found the game more fun the better I get. I've recently started playing Survivor a lot more, and seeing my average chase times extend as I improve at fast vaults, Dead Hard baits, learning how greedy I can get with a single window or pallet is awesome. And as a Killer, I usually opt to play more tactical killers like Artist and Knight rather than chasing killers, and the thrill of predicting a Survivors pathing with a Guard or a Bird gets better every time. For me, Dead by Daylight has only got more fun over the years, even with the horrid gen kick meta, which is easily countered if your team doesn't make a mistake in repair order. Gen kickers are usually terrible in chase anyway, and get their wins from boring their opponents to death.
Ah I remember when legion first got announced, from the disappointment towards his actual power from the difference of what was leaked, and what we got. I remember how he used to be able to stab the same person multiple times in the same frenzy and how that would decrease their deep wound timer till they actually fell over, I remember how many people called the game dead when that happened. I remember when you had to dribble survivors on and off your shoulders to get them to a hook without eating a ds because it was on all the time without needing to be hooked first. Those old times were great and I had alot of fun back then but the game is much better now holy.
I've been playing for four years, and it was at its peak at the beginning of last year. They fixed so much broken shit like infinites, keys, and mori's which made the game so much more enjoyable. The game right now is in a shit spot because of perks that drag the game out with no effort such as Circle of Healing, Call of Brine, and to a lesser extent Overcharge. The three gen meta is my least favorite meta ever introduced in this game, and the game will be at its peak once it's gone.
I started before bully squads and still dread the return of that dark age of the game…
Okay so the old days and the new days of DBD are not better or worse than each other old DBD had things that made it better than new DBD and new DBD had things that were better than old DBD. The best example I can give is my favorite killer the doctor.
The doctor in the old days had better anti-stealth. You could stay in treatment mode for hours with whispers and know where survivors were hiding. He also had a faster shock but when he used it he was slower. The new doctor can move much faster and can use add-ons to bring back the fast shock and overall be a better chase killer than the old days anti stealth power he had.
On an entirely different note I would like to say I completely thought up the doctor rework before the doctor rework came out which is amazing considering the fact that none of my ideas from that point on have been implemented.
Also I hate the reason bhvr given to remove doctors passive terror radius madness gain. The reasoning was that they didn't want the survivors to be afflicted with a debuff just because the killer was near by. Then a few months went by and the Freddy rework was released guess how they made you fall asleep to Freddy BY BEING ON THE ENTIRE OPPOSITE SIDE IF THE MAP NO WHERE NEAR THE KILLER PASSIVELY FALLING ASLEEP. but if the survivors were to be gaining madness from being inside a killers terror radius that would be too harsh.
People should stop treating this game like some eSports discipline. It's just a game for the Christ sake… Try to have some fun!
the only thing I miss are chapters that are as good as weskers
