My only explanation is that he thought he couldn't get to another pallet or something else. He then thought to save the pallet and dead hard past you and to get a little bit more distance or glitch past you entered the locker to hope you missed your 2nd swing allowing him to make it to the window or something. The other explanation is that he has no brain to not just use the pallet
im like 90% sure his goal was to vacuum you to the other side of the pallet but because you both A) respected the pallet and B) he dead harded towards the locker (causing him to go into said locker and not drop pallet) it didnt work
Guy has the pallet throw and the dead hard key on the same binding. He accidental used dead hard and panicked into the locker. That's what I think happened

As for entering the locker, either he assumed you would swing again and miss so he can escape or he tried to get the nearby window but his distance was more closer to the locker.
