In Dead by Daylight™: The Board Game, a team of four resourceful Survivors face off against a single supernatural Killer in a high-stakes game of cat-and-mouse.

As one of four Survivors, explore the trial grounds, discover props, and utilize your unique perks as you work to uncover and repair generators. Repair four generators and open the exit games to escape and win! As a Killer, hunt down the survivors, wound them, and place them on sacrificial hooks to summon a sinister force. With enough sacrifices, you are able to appease The Entity and win!

Each turn, players will plan their moves by secretly selecting paths on the board to move along. Each time a player moves, they will reveal new features of the board, called props, which they can interact with to further their objectives or to hinder their opponents.

Survivors are able to utilize many different props to aid in their survival and navigation of the trial. Killers can make use of fewer props—instead, they interact with the Survivors using their attack or their unique power. Each Killer has a different power that will completely change the way the game plays.

Both Killers and Survivors have perks which grant them special abilities. Experienced players can customize their characters with various perk configurations, offering even more replayability.

The basic game comes with 7 Survivors, 6 Killers, and 2 maps. The Collector’s edition includes 17 Survivors, 16 Killers, 4 maps, and additional miniatures to create the ultimate Dead by Daylight experience.

  1. Favourite character is definitely the Oni – the Yokai have always interested me and the ability to zoom around the map, and the characters visual design is incredible. The background social commentaty on family hierarchy and the dangers of the Patriarch figure are also super well fleshed out.

  2. This game is all new to me, so I don't know any of the characters.
I like your paint job. I did similar to my intruders for Nemesis. Spray primed gloss black and washed them with purple ink. Sealed them with a satin clear coat.

  3. Originally was thinking about backing the board game since I am a fan of tabletop games and horror, but may have to wait it out and see due to analyzing certain back end stuff and of course the long wait period to possibly (with a risk) of actually getting the physical game itself on Oct 2022. The board game does look interesting, but I hope the balancing is done correctly this time over the actual PC game itself. Anyways, I am interested in seeing how the plague functions in this. Aside from that, I am very concerned about the realm board's variations and the materials being used to make the character placcards, cards, and tokens. They seem a bit paperback, which draws concerns on the wear and tears over time. I paid for board games like "Happy Little Dinosaurs", "Dead Of Winter", "Abomination", "Camp Grizzly", "Zombicide", etc. which can range from $60+ with amazing content, and they offer high quality hard card board placcards and punch out tokens with close to Polyvinyl Chloride cards for the asking amount.

  4. Great review and preview. 🙂 I'm a big fan of the video game and a board gamer, plus I like a couple of Level 99's other games so this seems like a pretty solid bet for me.

My favorite killer in the video game is Doctor, I just love his tracking ability, it means it's really difficult for survivors to hide and keeps you in the action pretty much the entire time. I know Doctor is in this (in fact it sounds like the Deluxe version has all the non-licensed killers through the last one or two) so it'll be interesting to see how they translate his ability set to the board game. If I had to guess tracking might be something involving occasionally seeing survivor cards face up prior to playing his own card for movement, but who knows? 🤷‍♂

  5. My favorite killer from the video game is the spirit. She sort of teleport walks/phases as she moves around the map, very strategic and harder to master, but very rewarding when tricking survivors!

Video game aside, I love minis and the video game itself has great art. So what you did to your minis does make my temptation double to go out and fully back this game myself because I really want the hulking Oni mini and my third favorite killer the doctor. With that said, I agree with how you judged the board game art. The art is important to me and I really, REALLY wish they would rethink the map design. Looking forward to a gameplay hoping that really ties it together for me like it did for you, otherwise keep up the good work!

  6. Trapper all the way! Having less movement options in a movement bluffing game is sweet. Rules by themselves are rather simple, yet as said I’m guessing “the meat” is with perks and items.
