Not really, its just about as selfish as any other gaming community. The asymmetrical nature of it makes it feel way worse though.

In my opinion survivors are just spoon fed whatever they please over whatever they whine about while killers have genuine complaints that never get heard. We've been complaining about horrible map design, offerings, item, perks, etc for YEARS and the best we've gotten is 10 seconds on gens and a whole bunch of perk reworks that seem to have done maybe a "little" considering I still have to wait for "e" most of the time. Survivors are literally just given base kit BT for free, which was then buffed because killers were still tunneling and camping, THEN they got reassurance. Like?? Hello?? Just giving survivors everything to counter the one strong strategy killers have but no clearly I must be punished because I dont feel like walking the football field that is mothers dwelling or being ran on an entire part of the map in garden of hoy or cowshed. Maybe oh idk give us corrupt base? Deadlocked?? Heck even shattered hope it feels so stupid giving up a perk slot that could be used for better perks just to kick that one totem in a two story building. My argument is that EVERYTHING these devs do literally makes killer harder and unfun in the most boring and backwards way while just making it even easier for survivors not to care about the killer being, yknow, THE KILLER
It's not the asymmetric aspect you are describing but rather the fact that you're stuck for the match with what you choose. League of Legends, for example, is not asymmetrical but has the same issue of people not being able to adjust out of spite in the match and, most of the time, carry it over to another game. If MW wouldn't allow you to change the class multiple times per match, you would have the same issue there too.
People like to only blame killers for "tryharding" and I would like to ask how many times have you seen a killer (in matches or on stream) purposely not tunnel someone/give hatch and how many times have you seen survivors giving hooks/ kills to a killer that is struggeling?
And yet when people reffer to unfun playstiles they only mention tunneling/camping, when a squad of survivors brings bnps/strong medkits and map offerings they are just "shitters" but when a killer camps/tunnels they are the bottom of the barrel worst player incel tryhard, why is the killer held to such a stigma and survivors are not?
Thatโs why I wish the game put more reward on player interactions. Chases, hits, flashlight evasions, hooks, heals, stuns, blinds, saves, protection hits, unhooks. Encourage players to not finish the game as fast as possible and to actually interact with each other in ways that allow them to counter with their own interaction.
I got a week ban from behavior because I did what you said in this video (became less of a threat during a match because team was too weak). Than a day later,, I recieved an email from (behavior team) Vordius that I had to essentially not let any player off easy and was given a week ban. Because if I let a player off easy I would be considered as a griefer to the players that I already killed. It is unfortunate that even behavior supports a winning mindset rather than a having fun mindset.
I agree with this in principle but we can't fight human nature. 90% of people who recognise they are getting an easy game aren't going to tone it down, they'll just go "oh easy game, great" and proceed to get that win they so desperately need to validate their self worth with.
I used to think toxicity was just a normal part of online gaming. I've been grinding Deep Rock Galactic and I've not had a single bad experience with players. Granted that game is co-op and not PvP so that could be the difference maker. DRG community is seriously great all the way through though.
Wait, to save the game people need to stop trying to win? This does not sound like a functional game. If the only solution to fix a game is to "stop winning so much," what is the point of playing for people who want to win? I'm not trying to be rude or anything, I stopped playing quite a while ago and only watch Scott because I really like his content. I just don't understand how "stop trying to win" is even a suggestion in a game. I get try harding is super boring, I've been on this game a long time, but it just feels like the devs should have to deal with this issue and not the players.
I actually find it weird that when you either respect or agree with someoneโs opposing views, they really donโt know how to take it. 90% of my time playing was on killer and I can still agree with many points survivorโs have
Bhvr plz add in game chat for the one time.
I never expected Scott to put up a video about dbd players not having enough virtues.
Just like in all competitive games, people want to win and most often do what then can to do so. While it's true you aren't supposed to win every time, it doesn't mean that you should just decide: I'll lose this game on purpose.
In fact it's entirely on the side of devs doing completely shit job at balancing the game that people feel forced to play in some less fun ways.
"Given the opportunity, players will optimize fun out of their game"
As a killer main, I stop caring about survivors having fun the moment after they t-bag me at the gates and "ggez" me in the post-game chat.
I love MW2 and all itโs flaws๐ฅน
Great video. Apart from when you called Deja Vu a meme perk. That made me want to throw my phone
I want bhvr to give Huntress her bikini skin from the date sim, with jiggle physics. And jane needs a bikini too.
You cannot change what other people do, only what you do. So it's best to do what you enjoy.
The community consists of individuals, and in an competitive game, those individuals are cats.
Tried herding cats ? Never happened, never will happen.
Adjust your expectations, try to become what you would expect out of another, enjoy.
6:45 im not terrified of losing, i just dont prefer it to winning when i know i could based on my ability. ill just play a game that allows me to win without having an autistic affinity for it like you "pros"
Honestly, I don't thing there is nothing we can do about it, today I opened my game just to play some casual game with a meme build even gave the killer a free hit playing around with the snowman and got camped to death (and got cursed at in the end game chat) ;-; I guess now you are punished for trying to have fun :/
Come on DBD community, Scott has asked us for one single gift this Christmas. Do you think we can help Santa deliver?
Title: exists
Tunneling / camping / slugging / grabbing healthy unhooker / grabbing out of locker because the
animation didn't finish / preventing an unhook / making people die NOT on 3rd hook / etc: exists
(all of that combined with one shots and mori)
Answer: yes, selfish af
DBD takes the worst societal problem and turns it to 11, "Us or Them". Add an unequal 1-4 format and sprinkle in some "Pretty good job so far" and voila ๐๐
Cm Winter and Pro Vengeance are two of the worst for this. Hardcore tunnelling and camping and incredibly salty if they lose, all for the name of a kill streak.
they need to make another game mode where there are no busted add ons, no crazy tool boxes or medkits, you canโt use no meta perks, and killers lose ALL bloodpoints for camping/tunneling before endgame because it seems like the current game mode allows everyone to play like theyโre in comp which is so fucking boring when youโre trying to play casual.
I remember when I had this skill issue and got tunneled out on Red Forest. I could have made the decision to bring an anti-tunnel build to the next game…
But I decided to play bubba and tunnel as well. After the match, I didn't really feel any better and got a couple russians flaming me, and I just closed the game because I was overall fed up – that playstyle is no fun for me. I should've better get not worked up over a game but it happens sometimes to me, I don't know why. I would love to have this balance of having fun and simply not caring that much.
During the bone chill event, I often threw the game as killer by just walking with other survivors in snowmans. But I really had fun and that was a great experience. I wish somehow this would still be possible outside the event.
Dbd needs proximity based voice chat
I agree although there may be a counterpoint in getting through a badly matched game quickly. For example, say iโm playing Spirit hypothetically and i just want to play a sweaty match for once. I hope to play against good survivors and i probably wonโt have fun if I play against a lower level group of survivors.
Would it not be better to just get through that game and then hope that dbd matchmaking gives us what both sides want next time? Because we know if iโm playing spirit with a sweaty slowdown build then the survivors arenโt gonna have fun either lol. When iโm playing survivor with my friends, i think on a similar way. Iโd rather get the match over fast so then I can just play against a killer player who has a similar casual mood or just isnโt super good so we can play casually on our side.
I know this has nothing to do with the topic. But Scott reminded me of spawning in, launching a grenade from my spawn into their spawn and instantly killing 3 or 4… good times.
I win 90% of the time as killer but I never play bad or even being slow downs I main artist and sadako
I used to really enjoy watching Tru3Talent, but he seems to go up against insanely sweaty SWF groups any time I watch him, and he gets so competitive that he generally just tunnels the absolute shit out of people to ensure he can win.
It works, and he's good at the game, but at that level, the means to win is incredibly boring to watch and even less fun to play. I probably suck at DBD now, but one of the reasons I stopped playing was my win rate was pretty decent at Rank 1, but every game was a white knuckle affair that was stressful, not fun, because half the people I went against were insanely sweaty and would BM in game, and ruthlessly shit talk post game.
I mean, having some random group of strangers shit talk you in a videogame is pretty "whatever", but it started to get tiring of playing against people who were just trying to be assholes.
I literally just play the game idc what's going on. If I feel like trolling I'm gonna troll. If I feel like playing regularly I'm gonna play regularly. I have league to sweat over
this selfishness I feel like is really brought out in a lot of asymetrical games, it comes with the territory of one side being able to not nessesarily exploit parts of the game but simply be very skilled in that they are able to nullify whatever the other side is doing, whether it be because the other side is not as skilled or just because of game mechanics. One of the things I think about when it comes to this without a better term for it, bullying, of the other side is when the Friday The 13th game was popular, at launch nobody really knew how to play the game, it was fun but quickly people figured out that the survivors could gang up Jason and really just make it so he couldn't do anything, if the legal issues and thus lack of updates of that game didn't kill it, I felt that if not addressed that aspect of it would.
I got told to kill myself several times cause I lost a game as killer
I get told I'm not good at all and I'm extremely laggy and shouldn't have hit anyone when I win as killer
A survivor has a hatch spawn next to them after they lose a match pretty badly and they proceed to tbag me after making 7166 loud noise notifications
And a 4 man swf with bnp provethyself tbags me at the gate cause I didn't immediately tunnel them at the start of the game cause I wanted them to have a fun game.
As a survivor my worst experiences include being farmed by a survivor and a killer (my first match as survivor in this game)
Being camped a few times by a killer
Being tunneled a handful of times
Being hit on hook ๐๐๐๐
And my team not unhooking me
And my team opening the gate at end game against a killer who isn't camping with no noed…
I think a huge problem with mmr I'd that the dbd player base is just not good. Very rarely do I go against a survivor or killer and think damn they are amazing. Even the comp players I have played against were not what I would classify as amazing chasers, a couple in the last one were actually bad at it.
Finally, thank you for saying this, I'm of the opinion while dbd balance wise is at its best rn I'd kill to just travel back to 2018/2019 because everyone had this mindset and the game was great you had the odd ball ruin pop nurse and you played around it or even tried to but no one cares for the other side and so the game has lost its spirit of camaraderie and goofiness it's a shame that the community is what's holding dbd back as of late, and I understand that can seem like a short sighted statement but it's the truth amd with this video as context i tbink anyone can see why #ReturnTo2019
I still firmly believe the DbD community is the worst community I've ever had the displeasure of being part of, and I played Dota.
It seems like DBD encourages selfish behavior with poor game design and a matching system that is basically a prisoner's dilemma
My sister bought me DBD and some RE dlc for it recently. I played it day one on console and stopped after a week(mostly because killers won every match), so ive been out for years now. I've been having the most fun playing as Wesker or Nemesis, mainly because I don't do anything BUT fuck around. These people playing survivors are probably up against either the sweatiest nerds to ever pick up a controller, or just generally awful people who have no business picking up a controller, so it feels good thinking that their match with me is a breath of fresh air, some brief respite and a good way to get some points and complete some challenges(though i wish there was a way to talk to the survivors before the match to let them know directly).
Ive not won a single round as killer, and it feels great.
You're asking for a solution that no one can truly control, other people's behavior. But I understand and wish people would have some more fun with the game instead of sweating bullets every game.
I just want to play Clown without needing 4 gen slowdown perks. I want to run the perks I want and the add ons I want without losing 1-2 gens every chase. I also want Clownโs power to actually be good like it used to be.
I think that people are so scared of losing because practically everything in this game is consumable. Take moris for example. You can only get them early at high prestiges, and otherwise you have to wait until about level 25. Then it resets, making it very difficult to get them back if you use them normally. If the game used another system that made them easier to get, then losing them and not getting value out of them wouldn't be as bad.
Rust.
I will say in comparison FFXIV has one of the most helpful communities…almost annoyingly so but I appreciate it haha
To be fair there's only so much you can take before you press the "I win" button. Even otz had a situation where he was having a bad time for a few hours so he hopped on nurse for a bit. That's why I think it sucks you can't switch killer in lobbies anymore. I'd prefer to nurse up when I see previously toxic players or a sweat squad, rather than play some freddy or sadako. How it stands is when I want to nurse for a bit I end up just dominating randoms that don't deserve it, rather than keeping it as an ace for the most toxic people.
As a huge player of DBD and Magic, I have to say Magic is WAY worse.
DBD has its entitled players, and I've definitely gotten salty and sunk there especially when I was new, but even people who've play MtG since the 90s are toxic af and wish they could shit talk on Arena while playing drafts or standard/historic/explorer ranked. And the salty winners on the social media groups are awful and even worse than the most salty pc players who trash talk me while losing and saying GGs or joking about their meta build while I'm running random shit in solo queue.
I love MtG but I think that community takes the cake especially on toxicity. I'm sure Tofu can back me up a bit but I don't think he plays on Arena.
scott, the game is not a 4v1, it's a FFA. the devs describe it as a 4v1v1v1v1v1, that's a FFA in which 4 players have a common objective, not a shared one. In a 4v1, all 4 members of a team have a shared objective in which the team wins if the objective is complete, this is not true of DbD.
I'm not bullshitting when I say, every time I get a group abusing bugs and bringing the most op perks and items, eerie offering., sitting in exit gates tbagging for minutes, flash light clicking (even after the change yes) against me as billy or some shit, its console players a solid 80-% of the time. I think having no text chat just takes away the human aspect of it and they never have to deal with someone being like wow ty so much for another misreable game from before I even spawned in. Wish they made the thumbs up/down system worth something to incentivize people to not be pieces of shit and understand when they are being one too.
I wouldn't say the community is the most selfish, rather it is the most entitled by far. Never in any other game do you just get shit from every player you play against just for playing normally.
Honestly there should be a separate matchmaking for actual ranked and casuals. It will keep the shitters with massive egos in a separate playlist so they leave the rest of us alone.
