Expectation Vs. Reality in Dead by Daylight

This video has come about as a result of the All Things Wicked chapter, and killer of The Unknown. From what I’ve seen, many felt quite thrown off when seeing Unknown for the first time in-game, believing it to be presented differently in the teasers. This made me think back to other times too when teasers or full trailers sort of felt like they didn’t quite align with the characters we eventually got in game.

At the time of this video’s release Chapter 31 has been revealed, with new killer The Unknown and survivor, Sable Ward!

  1. or could it be that it might or might not cause unwanted interactions because game isn't designed to fully support that low of a point of view? it very much sounds like him standing is just QOL thing overall, i don't even play the game but why whine about this..

  2. I feel like Artist could be added to this list. The disappointment wasn’t as bad with her as it was with these other killers but I remember when she first got teased, everyone assumed her power would interact with the entity’s crows all over the map but she just ended up using a crow-aesthetic for her model and projectiles.

  3. To me, my impressions for tools of torment were the opposite from every else. During the teasers, I thought it was a cyborg type killer and I didnt really care much. Sure it was cool, but it's not really my kind of character so I brushed it off. Then we finally saw who the killer was and I immediately fell in love XD

  4. On the legion, their walking animations were very similar to the OLD survivor walking animations, if you take a look you'll see, and from a distance they actually did look like survivors

  5. I still feel like the power got changed late in development for unknown, with how all the teasers focused on it, the lobby having crawling, to even the mori just throwing away the axe like its nothing to crawl and using tendrils that aren't part of the main kit, just makes it feel like the grenade launcher wasn't the initial plan

  6. Tbh I like Skull Merchant’s slasher esque design way more than the idea of her being some futuristic scifi thing. I was relieved to see that she was a combination of scifi and slasher instead of straight up scifi like singularity.

  7. I'll say, The Unknown is a much bigger disappointment compared to SM. He's not unbearable to go against but he's just soooo goofy, there's nothing scary with this killer. It's just so funny to see him, the power is random as fuck and the fact he doesn't crawl in a creepy manner is just SO disappointing. It's like two opposite designs together

  8. still think Legion needs to be reworked into a deception based ability,
would settle for a Legion variation of the knight's power, where when the player Legion frenzy runs, 3 non-player Legions would frenzy run after survivors for a limited time, and if they injure a survivor, survivor is injured, or goes down if already injured, and non-player Legion disappears and gives the player Legion a notification of where they managed to strike a survivor. long cooldown, add-on needed for applying mending effect

if i saw trailers for Skull Merchant and Unknown before seeing their ptb releases, i'd have been disappointed for those two as well
(grimmer & grimy mechanical appearance for Skull Merchant ; crawling & deception based abilities for Unknown)

  9. Ngl i really dont want a "Blend in" killer or imposter. Its just gonna be utter garbage unless its solo queue.

But thats my nit pick when it comes to the community whej they ask for this. The peoples expectations i can understand to a degree but all the teasers are just that setting the stage for the killer. Power or who they are.

Heck what you said at 3:35 they ca valut over windows and pallets like a survivor. In those aspects the trailer does indeed give you more information about them.

  10. The unknown really annoys me. I think it was such a a cool concept and had amazing potential and The model is amazing however when we come to actual gameplay once again we have another chase killer. Why have a killer thats entire theme is hiding in the shadows and tricking people luring them in before killing them and taking there skin to trick more people ….to just give it a plasma orb launcher thing? There are SO many things they could have done with this killer and theme but to me it feels like they couldnt be bothered with the charecter after a while and said "ehhh fk it just make it shoot" why on earth is it a chase killer. I truely dont get it you set up a charecter that lures survivors in but then in the gameplay you have a charecter that chases them down. Its literally the exact opposite.

  11. I don’t really care about the Killer powers or how misleading they happen to be, I care about their weapons and how cool they look or how original they are like the Artist’s Palette Knife, a weapon made from “shadows” is very creative

  12. In my opinio, the issue with Legion is that you could literally re-write the entire aspect of them being 4 teens and make it just Frank and nothing would really be lost, the entire reasoning behind it was for cosmetics.

Skull merchant could've at least been monstrous in some way, some of the killers are changed by the entity, why not make the skull merchant a cyborg in some way?

Lastly the unknown crawling could be seen as the gloves coming off and done playing with it's food, it uses it to eat survivors in it's mori and it could just prefer walking to be more human like.

  13. All Things Wicked was the chapter I was looking forward to the most , especially considering that I've played DbD for quite a few years. As much as I loved the teasers, and the overall delivery, the Unknown's power was honestly such a let down. I was, and to be honest still am, very disappointed with what we've got because everything until Test Server's release was literally perfect. I love the Unknown's design and idea, but its power is just….. bad. It's just bad.
Aside from that, I'm still happy with what we've got. This is definitely one of the best chapters in a while <3
