  1. Yeah, people who DC because of map, because they got downed too early, because they dont like the offerings, its all the same. Plus RPD is a pretty fun map, and you should prolly learn and play it. Honestly wasting everyone's time like that is really childish and selfish. Edit: And now its gonna be abused by everyone, thanks scott.

  2. I personally don't blame anyone for map dodging, but wasting everyone's time on waiting (which takes about 2 minutes maximum or so) just for it all to be pointless is just… Bleh.

  3. Knowing the map for the killer is equal for survivors to know who the killer is, because that info and starting positions, map layout are unknown before the start of the game. Once you are given the info, the game already started by game rules, right? With that said, i totally think it is okay to dc before you gain control of your character.

  4. i think its an exploit but with other more serious exploits that are and have been in the game it's hard to take this too serious. The way i see it is any game starts once you're able to asses the "situation". Like in older fighting games, during the character selection screen is really when a game started because you can try to counter pick your opponents character before the fight even started. that's why, to me, i consider the start of DBD to be once the camera starts to show your location. you can begin guessing where people spawn, where you are in the map, tiles near by, gens, and so on so forth. Once you gain control of your character your first few seconds are spent acting out decisions based off the info gathered during that camera spin.

  5. In my opinion the game does start once you get into the rotating screen before you can move. You already get some input where in the map you yourself are which in turn means you have at least knowledge about where survivors are NOT in the beginning of the match. Iirc you also see your totems and potentially you see survivors with Lethal Pursuer but I'm not 100% sure on that. But yeah, the fact that you get to know the map for sure, the information where on the map you are and survivors won't be and the totems is, in my opinion, enough input to warrant the game starting.

  6. Wtf is this. Who cares when exactly the game actually starts, because in order to play you have to go through cue times and loading times, which takes quite a while. So, be it an exploit or not, I don’t give a fuck because it will always be annoying and douchy. Means you have to go through all of it just to play again, it’s quite aggravating, I’d rather play a bad map than finding a new match.
And btw this isn’t chess. The game starts when the lobby timer ends or everyone readys up, end of story. Why? Because from that very moment the match is already being influenced with offerings.

  7. In terms of Dbd, I see it that once you've loaded in the game has started. Nevermind the fact the camera hasn't started moving yet, as soon as that sound plays where you load in, the game has started

  8. I think now's a great time to announce the funny tech. If a survivor DC's by force closing the game at or BEFORE the camera starts turning, the match will last for a minute before it ends. As though the survivor had not disconnected at all. It's not possible to do to avoid maps because you'd have to have cracked reaction speed, but you can do it if you see a map offering you dislike. Great for confusing the players of the lobby and nothing else, but the match DOES start. When it boots the players from the game a minute after everyone gets control, it gives an error code and says a player disconnected whilst loading. It's something I have done for a while when I am in SWF and a rando brings RPD or Midwich.

  9. -Disconnecting during the offering, loading or match start screen is an exploit and thus should be a penalized offense much like disconnecting the match.
-That said, I feel like allowing all players to see which map they are going to (and the offerings of other players) before the match starts is a good alternative to add.
-Also, the hate on the RPD map is getting petty. In fact, DC'ing because you hate a map is petty and disregards either that player or those players' preferences. So DC'ing isn't only just an exploit, it's actually pretty damn rude. Even more so than just offering up Haddonfield with the intent to make players' experiences miserable.

  10. I have no issue with people dc'ing because its a video game. People don't want to play at anytime it's whatever, and if you are doing it at a specific time to avoid dc pentalty go for it man, this game has fucking flying ghostfaces throwing hachets at you I stopped caring years ago.

  11. In chess id say the game begins when your timer starts going down. In dbd id say it begins when you start controlling your character however i don't think the exploit should work. It seems akin to the dc for hatch exploit

  12. I think you could potentially short circuit the argument by saying "It isn't the devs' intention for you to be able to leave a match simply because you dislike the map; and that any means of circumventing the punishment system put in place to prevent this happening should be considered an exploit according to the spirit of the law."

But, similar to the abortion debate's logic, if you're going to strip away everything and limit your considerations to the purely rational/materialistic: you have to agree when that life- I mean match, begins.
I think you could reasonably argue that the match officially begins in the lobby screen at the 5 second mark of the 60 second countdown (the one that starts once all players have connected to the lobby).
This is when all players are locked in, you cannot make any additional changes or preparations in your loadout.
This is assuming that the revelation of played offerings (whether public or secret) is much like the beginning of a round of poker where the flop being dealt visible to all is crucial to the proceeding gameplay.
In DBD, that revelation of played offerings is the first true "move" made by all players, and the moment they are revealed, both sides can begin strategizing and attempting to deduce things about their opponents/allies.
I think this combined with the point about developer intent makes for a fairly convincing argument.
That said, I would counter this argument by saying that offerings as we all know are largely inconsequential what with the majority of them being blood point gains.
But even map offerings and the ward meant to cancel them often have no effect, making the only time you know for certain what is to be considered, is once the game has finished loading in and the map is announced to you.
To say the match hasn't started if you've loaded in and 100% know which map it is as it's visibly announced to you/you're looking at it, is to say that only your initial movement of your character counts as the beginning of the match.
It makes sense on the one hand, but then what do you say about map offerings and loadout adjustments in response to what the survivors are carrying? When is that done if not within the match with those players?

  13. I do think that it is completely justified to DC after you see what map it is because RPD is an actual hell hole and I'd DC too if I played killer, but in my region (OCE), at high mmr, it takes an absurd amount of time to get into games and when I get into those games where the killer DC's, I feel like 20-30 minutes of my life was wasted just because someone didn't feel like playing on a certain map, hopefully BHVR implements some sort of map picker or what ever would be better than having to DC

  14. Honestly i think the game starts once the map has loaded in but as a killer main who plays both sides theres a handful of maps i refuae to play as killer. Rcpd being one of them. I didnt know this was possible but now that i know it works im definitely gonna be using this.

  15. I think this is rather interesting because I'm of two minds on it. It's almost a fix for horrible map designs which I'm in favour of but at the same time I consider the game to have started once all 5 players agree to the match. The whistle blows as the offering screen starts and you're all getting ready. My biggest issue with it is for players on console or in general 3 stacks who have harder times getting games/loading in getting disconnected as the game starts. That'd be akin to accept the chess match, walking up, taking a seat and then leaving your partner waiting for 5-10 minutes for a match.

That being said fuck RPD nobody wants to play on that, survivor or killer, I'd never blame anyone DCing on that map (or Swamp but that's a personal thing) even if I wouldn't myself

  16. idc, I look at it the same as when ppl DC on hook against a killer they dont wanna play, I'm not gonna force them to stay if they don't want to. Same goes for killers or even survivors who don't want to play certain maps

  17. I don't know where the game starts, but I do know that if I sit into a 10 minute queue, a lobby timer where someone doesn't ready and then a loading screen just to see the game not start I'm probably not queueing again

  18. I would argue that every game starts when the "clock" starts. In Chess, it starts when a player hits the clock button and in football it starts at kickoff when the clock starts to count down. I think it would be fair to say that in the case of DBD, the game starts when the DC penalty starts.

  19. The game starts once you've all readied up and committed to playing this round. It's not really a question, you chose too load into the lobby, you chose too ready up. Just because you don't like a map offering you see doesn't mean shit. Just entitlement. "what I don't like that map… It doesn't suit me so fuck this game, go wait in campfire simulator" shits weak.

Nah the fact you admit to using this for years is kinda scum tier… Maps are random/offerings, just suck it up and play the map and don't be a child. It's just weak af. I'm sure your not the only one who dislikes certain maps, so imagine if every person in this game did it?

This game has had insane lobby times at many different points and waiting around for ages for a game to start so someone can do that is awful. And has definitely pushed people away, I left the egame because of taking half an hour to find an game for it too not load because someone DC'd before it starts.

Idc about anyone else's opinion either. But making a video showing more people who can use this is just worse. Shame.

It is definitely an exploit. And kinda a scum one.

  20. I know another way to make maps never appear so cant go in them
I hated the swam when it came into the game and found a way to never get it
but hen I undid what I did and play all maps, not sure if it works or not still lol.
it was not done by game files, but was interesting to say the least haha.

  21. Sitting down thinking about this made me realize that every time I dc when I see a map offering I don't like, my first thought is "Well, I don't like that I'm doing this but BHVR allows it so whatever." I'm personally not going to judge anyone for very limited use of this "exploit," but I think it shouldn't be intended and if the game was in a perfect state (haha yeah right), it would be cause for proccing the dc penalty.

My reasoning why it shouldn't be allowed is because of what happens when it gets abused, which imo is what should be looked at for any gray area thing that can happen. Your criteria really only gets met, what, 1/36 games (assuming an even chance to get all maps)? That's really small in the scheme of things. However, say a solo queueing survivor just wants to play on Cowshed. Even if they're bringing a Coldwind offering, they're probably canceling 80% of their games after everyone has sat in a queue, then a lobby for a minute, then the offering screen, then the loading screen. That's incredibly disruptive.

Now, I understand this is creating rules based on edge cases, but the problem in video games is "edge cases" tend to become more mainstream the longer the issue causing them lasts. I know its not Scott's intent making this video, but there's easily at least a few people who are now going to dc during that loop that didn't before, based on frankly arbitrary criteria. So even though this seems like a silly discussion about a rare occurrence now, this could easily be an issue a year down the line if BHVR doesn't change *something*.

My other argument for why this shouldn't be okay is its a band-aid fix for the real problem, which is RCPD isn't an engaging map for a lot of players (and a few other maps that people dc a lot fit this criteria as well). BHVR should be fixing that, not just letting us skip it in an "unintended" (wink wink nudge nudge) way.

  22. May be useless to comment, but personally I feel a game has started once people have loaded in (camera begins spinning) Reasons being, you can take jn surroundings while it spins such as using lethal pursuer or looking for bones. All players have also waited for possibly an entire what feels like 10 minutes sometimes, just to load in as someone is on laptop or switch…. having the game end right then is rather disappointing to me at least even if it's a bad map
