Just last night, I had a Mikaela escape me because she had distortion, and I mostly had aura reading perks. The Dwight who died on the team called her out for not protecting them, but she had said he needed to get the Iridescent unbroken emblem, which I believe is a new challenge in the tome. So now challenges are promoting selfish playstyles in order to complete them.
Some people play stealth (not selfish and abandoning someone on hook )
Some people play No Mither
Some want to chase the killer all match while the others play a gen simulator
…and then there's the lad who hides in a locker and waits for hatch or stares at the hooked survivor.
Solo queue always brings this randomness without a reason which makes this game oh so worth it.
…BUT I do agree that some people are hypocrites.
I just hope this attention that comes to Calm spirit won't evolve into BHVR bringing the "balance by dice roll" and nerf the perk {and Pig}
(btw you seeing calm spirit appear more often is quite a blessing… because me and ma friends always run against THE FAMOUS:
Made for this + Resilience + Hope … my games are stale with THIS boring combo…it's fun to bump into some survivors with more fun combos)
Also love your videos. 🙂
I played against Ultimate Weapon a couple times today, its actually oppressive without being slowdown because blindness counters hook saves and windows of opportunity, plus I was using Deja Vu and it stopped me from knowing which gens were marked, so yeah its pretty good!
just run whispers lol
Basically looping Skill issue or lack there of
Like a lot of things there is a time and place for it but is over used sometimes
I usually agree with your takes, and while I haven't played DBD in a while, I still love watching your stuff. This however, I think I'm looking at it form another angle. I enjoy stealth games so I use to get a dopamine rush when I was able to sneak past a killer in a match. Doing 5 gens and opening the gates are the only objectives to escape. Looping is not a requirement for those things to happen, as in mechanically. Looping buys time for other people but just the same as making a killer look for you. A stealthy player not required to play the loop game any more than a killer is required to give the last person a hatch. But I still respect that you don't like the play style. 🙂 Maybe I took the this take in the wrong way.
I do agree immersed gamers suck. I stink at Survivor (about 75% of my game time until recently has been on Killer) and I've been running Calm Spirit lately, not to immerse but more to.. not give away my location for free, even though I'm probably the most suicidal survivor I know, I'd rather die for a save or get my whole team out and die than escape because that's what's fun to me.
My real gripe with ultimate weapon is how much it overshadows everything else with no actual effort, it's essentially "stare at a wall for 2 seconds for free info on everyones location and it blinds them" and it has almost no cooldown either. The blindness sucks and could probably be removed entirely, I know the general agreement is that Blindness is useless, but really what it does is punish the shit out of solo survivors and punish survivors for running "off meta" perks like Bond and Alert (both perks I use regularly) and it's really really annoying when I get blinded for 30 seconds, effectively disabling half my perks because the killer looked at a wall.
There's also perk and Killer combinations that are really not fun, like Blight with Ultimate Weapon and Dead Mans switch, or Pig with gear addons, though this is definitely more an issue with screams interrupting actions. Though this perk also has the issue of being really really strong on Killers like Nurse and Blight and kind of mediocre on Killers like Clown or Pig. Bump up the cooldown a bit and remove the blindness and I would have no real qualms with UW. Maybe remove screaming interrupting whatever action you're preforming too.
I prefer playing stealth and slamming gens as I don't trust my connection enough to loop killers, although I tend to use gen rush perks over distortion and calm spirit, basically challenging the killer to get me out of the trial asap basically treating the trial as will i die quick or escape quick type of deal lol
It's more fun if the killer has the chance to find me
Luckily I didn't have the perk but I just went up against a 4 man calm spirit team.
I feel like this video is missing the point of why people are running Calm Spirit. Ultimate Weapon bypasses OTR/Distortion, and sometimes you do need to hide from the killer. If you're on death hook when your allies are not, you need to play like an immersed survivor, you need to hide and play safe, because even when you're playing super safe and avoiding chase and hiding when you hear the terror radius, you're still being more useful to your team than if you're dead.
And there are also people who enjoy stealth as a playstyle. I have a friend who is a huge fan of Metal Gear Solid who loves playing survivor because it lets him play a stealth game versus actual people. He still goes for unhooks and does generators.
Immersed survivors who just try to outlast their allies are a different situation entirely and even survivors hate those people. It's understandable if you have an "escape through the hatch/open the hatch" challenge, though.
you know my experince with the new perk is as a surv you run to hook and you scream so the killer chases you cause you are the only one nearbye. they chase you away from hook but stay close enough to see if anyone else gets close they do the same. after you scream you better hope you recall exactly where the hook was or you will be wandering around a little bit looking for it while the killer could come back anytime and see your scratch marks
or
you get somone off hook and get a decent amount of distance away from said hook then the killer comes back to the general area and finds you before the heal and focuses on the unhook cause they cant even hide very well cause ultimate weapon covers a large area and can be used every thirty seconds. you can have survivors who are perma blind as the blind lasts 30 seconds and you can proc the effect every 30 seconds. making solo que unhooks a very scary situation as you need to always be paying attention for the intial hook or you will not even know where to go if your other randos are getting chased after you were
dont forget the weskers who can use this perk and just make sure a slowed surv can never actually spray themselves to get easy downs and outs.
is it annoying that calm spirit removes half the perk yeah. but the other perspective matters too and how they have dealt with this perk in the past and why it's making them use a perk slot cause its a really strong perk that can be extremely oppressive. this is how meta works a perk is strong and if strong enough survs will use a tool to push it back after awhile it will prob chill out where most are not using calm spirit all the time so the few times you bring the perk you get good use out of it.
"Other people aren't playing the game like the way I play the game. How dare they! Don't they know they need to run around pseudo infinite window loops all game with MFT while religiously spamming your Ctrl key at every single safe vault and pallet! Fun? We're not here to have fun. You need to compete like it's your job, or I'm going to throw a tantrum at you in the end game chat." ~ Every shitty DBD player ever
I think my gripe with Ultimate Weapon is that killers are becoming comically reliant on it despite the fact it's so easy to counter. Screams will make your location for the instant you scream known, so it's a generally good idea to…ya know, not be there when the killer comes for you. Though I have to say, I really get annoyed when they use it combination with that one other perk where if you scream while working on a gen then it gets blocked. I tend to feel like that one guy from that meme where he's just looking so done with life while he has a cigarette in his hand. I don't run into it TOO often, thankfully, but whatevs. But yeah, counter meta of calm spirit, no shame in using it. I prefer not to because I like kindred, sprint burst, botany knowledge, and currently I'm goofing around with either chem trap or sabotuer (chem trap almost never gets any real value but I still get a chuckle, and saboteur has literally won games for me)
just realized I didn't touch on immersed gamers, but I personally don't mind too much except in the most extreme circumstances that you listed of where they just refuse to ever come within a killer's terror radius ever and will let everyone die on first hook just because they're too knocking at the knees. I've seen too many games thrown just because of the one gamer just not wanting to pull their weight.
Calm spirit doesn’t counter only doctor. There’s like 20 perks that make u scream
Dead by Daylight's website says that this is a hide and seek game… so that's why they're immersed… the devs know exactly what their game is 😂🤣🙃
The funniest thing is that Calm Spirit doesn't even counter UW.
The Survivor won't scream but the Killer will still get the little "bubble" that shows the Survivor's location when entering the Terror Radius. Had to test it a bunch but after confirming it it's just sad that Survivors are literally bringing a perk that is completely useless and is borderline a meme perk for no reason.
Also, people who use stealth perks (Distortion, Iron Will, Lucky Break etc.) aren't mostly "not participating in normal gameplay". Most of those players are simply not too confident in their looping skills or simply want to be able to do the objective is relative peace. Avoiding chases might be annoying but like you say: time in DBD is gen-time.
Every second spent not in chase is a second potentially on a gen or healing somebody else/destroying a Hex totem. Distortion has saved me from Nurse's calling more time than I can count after unhooking somebody with OTR while healing them. Not wanting to take chase doesn't equal being only a gen jockey, in fact most of those people are using those perks for sneaky heals and unhooks more than to do gens (although being able to avoid Nowhere to Hide and get back on the gen instantly is nice when it works).
Facing stealth gods who go down in 5 seconds but hide like a God is extremely boring and survivor mains wouldn't get it
Personally I believe that being an ''emersed'' player doesn't have to be a detrement to the team. If they can waste a killers time by searching for them. Sneaking past them to complete objectives and still be active in a sense. It should still be all fun and games. Not to mention there are some sneaky/stealth options you can use during chase. Like dance with me/lithe and quick and quiet in a sneaky sense to confuse the killer. In terms what survivors want as a ''whole''. I think we shouldn't see it that way. They just are a part of survivors. Not to mention I dont think this part of that community is usually that vocal in terms of balance. So the part that they would complain about chase is right because it sets a bit of a catch 20/20. But that doesn't mean we should say that what they are doing is something terrible or bad. Let them have their fun.
I don't think all information perks are "tame". Some are clearly meta, or at least used to be(like tinkerer). So if the killer has information, it's also ok if survivors have counter for that. I am the type of player that enjoys looping 90% of my matches, heck i even call the killer to me some matches. But once in a while playing stealth is not a bad thing.
If I want to play stealth, I will play stealth. You liking or disliking it doesnt matter to me.
No I disagree with u on this one. People can play the game they bought with their own money the way they want, y does everything have to be a survivor sweat sesh🤣 and the objective is to survive and do gens, sometimes ur team mates can be overly altruistic and cocky lol
I personally like the ebb and flow of being in high intensity chases and the downtime of working on a generator. I would run Distortion for information on what perks the killer was running to counter it better. It also gave the benefit of being able to control the up and down time in the game. I'd say the strong gen meta caused the popularity of Distortion to go up as most killers were playing Nowhere to Hide.
While I don't care about Calm Spirit, I've put it on a few times for the simple fact that randomly screaming is more annoying than anything. I don't want to see Ultimate Weapon nerfed, but at least the locker counterplay is going to come in and that should help with people being annoyed as much with this perk.
All this said, you're overall take on people wanting to play the game a specific, non-toxic way being "stinky" and selfish is pretty bad. As long as the player is still contributing and helping the game, it doesn't matter if they're playing with Distortion/Calm Spirit or not. If they're just hiding, well, they won't need Calm Spirit after the PTB changes to the perk happen since hiding in a locker hides auras and screams.
I disagree. The only time stealthing annoys me as killer is when the last 2 survivors are stalling not doing anything. However when i play survivor, stealthing is fun. Theres a lot of excitement of the killer coming over to look for u and running right past your bush and not seeing you. Its not like ima hide and do nothing. I hide when the killer comes to waste time. Also survivors do not know how to play safe. So many times i see survivors injured death hook doing the MIDDLE gen. Like bro of course the killer is gonna tunnel u out. I think there's a lot of thought that goes into when to stealth and when not to.
ive been getting an absurd amount of locker grabs lately compared to normal, the immersion is real
people are allowed to counter pick meta perks lmao. what kinda thought process is this?
I 100% agree here. It just feels like running a perk like Calm just to specifically counter Ultimate is like saying "I don't want you to have ANYTHING!"… Even something as benign as an info perk that really only gives the killer a general direction. I mean, since when is everyone so scared of screaming? There's so many better perks for survivors to run, making it a regular occurrence to run Calm in case the killer run Ultimate is such a fuck you play. I know, someone's gonna be like "it's just smart gameplay, bruhhhhhh". But, wouldn't it be smarter to run perks that get gens done faster? Speeds up healing? Gives you a health state at endgame? Gives you free speed boosts for literally getting hit? I think so, but I know… killers have a cool new toy and you don't want it to work. 🙄
