It's funny that he brought up slavery because the Knight and his guards were all slaves but they became besties through their shared struggle. The Knight became so good at killing he was able to buy everyone's freedom so they remain loyal to him but of their own free will.

Knight is a strategic killer. Yes, he and his guards were slaves, he fought for his freedom and is fighting for his comrades freedom, they chose to follow him out of respect. They will destroy anything or anyone that stands between them and their freedom.
