The extra objective that no one wants got another buff in Dead By Daylight. Searching chests is a huge waste of time for survivors in DBD and that’s why most players don’t do it but behaviour keeps buffing chest hoping to make them more appealing

  1. I’ve tried making builds centered around chests for items and such but most times I’m spending upwards of 1-2 minutes running around looking for a chest when I could’ve just been unhooking/healing/doing gens/being chased all for 4 brown Medkits and toolboxes and ~20% of a gen worth of progress. I found it better when in a party to just be the chest doer but most times there’s 2 gens left by time I’ve gotten any value out of searching them

  2. I love the introduction of unique chest perks that activate on a rummage as well! If you could even use said perks to rummage…

I think the devs found the mechanic OP when Survivors were rummaging 12+ items with old Appraisal. It's not currently powerful at all. Rummaging should be more accessible/basekit (once per chest) for Survivors.

  3. They need to, at base, change chests themselves so they are more useful over all. Maybe make more spawn in a trial without the need of an offering, or increase the rarity of items you can get from them to a bare minimum of green items or… Idk honestly, but there is a reason everyone thinks chests are useless.

The best case scenario where a chest is useful, is if you are injured, near the basement, everyone else is dead or out and you need a medkit so you can unhook someone, that way you both can escape through the open door… And that is a very niche scenario on itself

  4. I think it would be better to consider having killer perks that make Chests a solution to a downside afflicted by the killer.

Here’s an example, one that I’d honestly rather have in the game over Houndmaster’s All-Shaking Thunder:

Scourge Hook – X Marks The Spot:

At the beginning of the trial, a minimum of 4 hooks will be designated as Scourge Hooke. These hooks are marked in white.

When a survivor is hooked on a Scourge Hook, they will suffer a 33% (can be rebalanced) decrease to repair speeds until they open a chest, additionally, the furthest closed chest will be revealed to the unhooked survivor.

This perk will not activate if all chests are open.

  5. The main reason why people don’t bother with chest is because it’s pointless when you can bring your own item with its own add-ons. Back in the day. The only reason why people open chests was because the hatch spawned in before the last survivor.
