Pyramid Head is one of the main antagonists in Silent Hill 2 he’s basically a manifestation of James Sunderland’s (the protagonist of the second game) guilt of murdering his wife and basically the concept of toxic masculinity, violence against women, rape, violence, punishment, etc… James is actually a legendary skin for Cheryl Mason (the survivor for DBD and the protagonist of Silent Hill 3)

  6. The reason Pyramid Head has that thing on his head is…a wee bit complicated, but bear with me. Also, spoilers for Silent Hill 2, in case you plan on playing it.

    Silent Hill 2 revolves around James Sunderland, a man who killed his terminally ill wife, Mary, out of frustration with not getting to live the life he wanted. Back before Mary became sick, the two would spend a lot of time in a town called Silent Hill. While there, James learned some of its history, mainly that of its executioners. In ye olden Silent Hill, the executioners wore white clothes with large, red hoods. James saw this and subconsciously internalized the image of the men in white with large red hoods as figures standing for punishment and penance. After he killed his wife, he received a mysterious letter from her, calling him back to Silent Hill, but once he entered, he saw Silent Hill's true colors. Silent Hill is just a local little town for most people, but should you be suffering somehow, from guilt or depression or loss or even an eating disorder, Silent Hill will call you to it and pull you into itself. Silent Hill, for those people, is a living hell. A nightmare where everything you hate and fear and everything that hurts you now is given shape, your innermost thoughts turned into monsters. And to note it, no monster can appear for the same person, even at the same time. James and another man can stand right next to each other, and while James sees Pyramid Head approaching, the other man won't because Pyramid Head is James' monster, and just the same, Pyramid Head will never, ever appear to anyone but James ever again. Now, once he enters, James encounters several of these monsters, all representative of his fears and hatreds and sins, but the one above them all is the one they call Pyramid Head. This monster is the true most representation of the evil inside James Sunderland, and it shows in both his design and behavior. Pyramid Head is representative of James's toxic masculinity, sexual frustration after his wife got sick, entitlement to Mary and her body, and most importantly, his guilt and need for punishment over murdering his wife. Pyramid Head is an exaggerated, horrifying version of Silent Hill's executioners, symbols of punishment and penance, in the form of their large red hoods morphed by Silent Hill into the gigantic mantle atop his head. He's massively beefy to represent the most horrible parts of masculinity, and he wields a gigantic version of the kitchen knife James and Mary used to use, known as the Great Knife, representative of the domestic life James gave up. Pyramid Head is actively violent and assumably rapes two other monsters on-screen, thus representing James's internalized violent thoughts and sexual desires all wrapped into one disgusting monster. Pyramid Head looks like that because he's not a person, he's an idea. A representation of all the masculine evil and need for punishment inside the psyche of James Sunderland.

    Anyways, a new chapter is coming out this Tuesday, so a trailer should be dropping for it around then. I'd love to see your reaction.

  10. Pyramid Head is pretty much the mascot of Silent Hill…even if his presence makes less sense in later games since he's supposed to be James Sunderland's "inner demon" so to speak…
    Also thats not a sword he's carrying but a Big Knife according to SH2 lore, which is funnier since SH1 and SH2 had goofy stuff like "The Dog was the mastermind all along" ending.
