The Castlevania Chapter is here, and I can safely say this Chapter is a smash hit that will be remembered well for a long time… even though I know nothing about the series. Weird, huh?

  1. hi, big time castlevania nerd here, it seems really weird that they used curse of darkness as trevor's look, but they chose not to mention anything from that game since it's the most development trevor gets in the games. In that game he actually helps hector, the player character, and we get to see how he's been doing post cv3. i appreciate that they did put some emphasis on trevor's family, which i have to assume is sypha and their unnamed kid, since the entire game franchise is built on the shoulders of the belmont bloodline, but it still feels weirdly reserved about mentioning anything at all. he's also canonically the first belmont to kill dracula, as leon wasn't able to, and it's really felt on drac's side with his voicelines, but not on trevor's at all. overall this version of trevor is very fractured and gives us small pieces from multiple parts of the universe, but without bringing it all together and it just feels weird. also, i loved hearing you talk about castlevania as an outsider, i felt like you treated it with a lot of respect and did your research on the important parts pretty well. 🙂

  2. Aesthetically, I love this chapter. But this chapter is a heck of a miss for me mechanically. I'm beyond tired of midrange zoning lunges/projectiles, and I was really hoping for a zany blood based power. In fact, after looking at the wiki for Dracula's powers, I'm convinced the devs deliberately avoided ALL the interesting power options.

But hey, this chapter reminded me how awesome Bram Stoker's Dracula is.

  3. Only thing I slightly disagree with is the comment on the model is better than vecnas. In my opinion vecna is the best model we have really got. He looks so much cleaner. More detailed and more natural than dracula! Not to say dracula doesn't look sick tho! Great video tho!

  4. I like this but i do think you understated how largely the impact of the castlevania anime played on this chapter

eventhough i think trevors inclusion instead of simon or richter is mostly agreed upon to be due to the anime i think overall the anime's focus on the darker horror elements of castlevania played a much larger part in the chapter being chosen then said here.

or maybe im just hoping a bit too much for a olrox or drolta skin

  5. This chapter for me personally, is a success. It captures a lot of what I would’ve wanted in castlevania dbd chapter. No massive gripes besides the lack of a map, which would’ve been hard to implement anyways. We don’t need another RPD situation lol

  6. I watched the Netflix show because of this chapter and I honestly love it and am now waiting extremely impatiently for Nocturne season 2

EDIT: If Capcom gives us another killer, I will literally sell my mortal soul for it to be Vergil from Devil May Cry

  7. Actually I do have to interject that it does partially interfere with castlevanias established lore. see the way Dracula's resurrections work if he didn't die in 1999 then aria and dawn of sorrow can't happen because there's no soul to reincarnate into Soma Cruz who is his reincarnation and successor as well as the protagonist of those two games. It's funny you bring it up too as it's one of my biggest gripes with how they implemented the lore

  8. This is the one instance where the prestige outfit is the best outfit for the killer. I like the bloody head cosmetic for Dark lord as it gives him bloody lips for yum yum blud mm yummi.

  9. One underrated license I think everyone would love in Dead by Daylight's fog; Bones, Jimmy Snoop Doggity dawg Bones. Not just because he's snoop dog, the movie has great visuals, and a good few messages behind a great story with one questionable scene (blood dream), while staying creepy with a heartfelt backstory of Bones, and small slice of humor

  10. Súper out of topic but I feel like dead by daylight is the only game where being exhausted from collabs is totally justified since the collabs here are entire months of content while in other games like fornite which are just cosmetics and maybe a limited time event/gameplay

  11. I'm surprised you didn't mention the sheer amount of unique interactions this chapter's killer and survivor have with each other. Dracula not only talks shit to Belmont during the trials, but even in the lobbies whenever a player joins as him. I wouldn't be surprised if he has a few lines for the Alucard skin too. On a related note, I also like how some of Dracula's voice lines imply that he's a big fan of The Entity's realm, seeing it as a free blood buffet bathed in eternal night, with no way for the humans to truly stand against him like in his life before coming here.

  12. This version of Dracula is based off the mainline games, if you want to start with Castlevania I would recommend Aria of Sorrow on the GBA, It'll leave you THIRSTY for more, it's story is simple but delicious, and it's often debated to be the best in the franchise, as well as being one of the easier games in the franchise. You can play it via the Castlevania Advance Collection on modern consoles and PC.

The Netflix show and the Mainline games are different canons, as the show directly contradicts things from the Curse of Darkness manga, the audio drama Nocturne of Reminiscence and the novel Reminiscence of the Divine Abyss, and stands by its lonesome.

  13. Actually, unless the entity released Dracula before his worlds 2020s, it does contradict the Castlevania lore as Soma Cruz, the protagonist of Dawn and Aria of Sorrows, is the reincarnation of Dracula following his final death.

  14. I think Dracula’s lore should’ve been written similarly to Ash’s lore with much more detail with the same manner and characterization while also being an addition to the existing canon if you wanted to view it as such
