  1. I'm mean, I can get why you're upset, but I also can see why other people might be upset too.

I mean, you can't deny she looks like a concord character and is very ugly. On top of that, I didn't even know she was meant to be a pirate. Zero clue. That's a failure in character design right out of the gate.

Good character design should be an extension of the characters story, while being interesting or entertaining to look at. She does neither of these things.

Plus, ugly doesn't sell skins. Sable all but proves this.

Plus again, dbd has every pride flag in the book, so it can be hard to tell sometimes where they're coming from with their character design.

Like is the new killer ugly because of pride and their tendency to make ugly characters because of the evil male gaze or is it simple just some bad character? A win some lose some scenario. Kinda like the twins.

Honestly, it can be hard to tell sometimes. But at least the dog looks good. For real though, I'd prefer the dog by himself. Cut the ugly lady out.

  2. Real talk, if this killer was white, but dressed the same and everything then there would be no avoiding the comparison to profession and it's big role in the slave trade over the last few centuries. Then Behavior would get criticized by the media and even bigger shitstorm would ensure between the MAGAtarts and DEI lovers. This just looks like Behavior tried to go down that route avoiding racial tension and then for some reason branded the killer as a pirate instead of a Noble Woman.

  3. I'm all for giving Sweet Baby Inc. the bird, but calling Hound Master woke is F'ing dumb. This is an example of using the term woke to side step racism. Also, interesting to learn that she is supposed to be a pirate, I did not get that vibe from her.

  4. The one that gets to me is dragon age.

These shitheads glaze Dragon Age: Origins like there wasn’t same sex romances, racial minorities, etc.

Yeah, I didn’t like Inquisition as much and haven’t touched Veilguard coz I didn’t enjoy the writing of Inquisition, not coz “woke stuff” but because some of the writing was just… not good.

  5. Another stupid take from the village idiot 😀 Literally nobody is saying "woke cause black". Are you bleeding that many subs that you now have to have ragebait titles?

  6. Don't try to apply logic to things like the "woke" controversy that the right wing has imagined up, it's nonsensical by design and is only intended to muddy any discourse it is applied to. The right wing does not believe in words having meaning, (they believe language is merely a tool to attain power, socially or politically) so trying to apply concrete logic to their social panics will never make sense if it is done from the assumption that they have an internal logic beyond things like class interest to adhere to.

  7. by saying woke all the time they're building a sense of community. as soon as someone says woke they know that said person is on "their side". unity through casual hatred is a very real phenomenon, and the right wing has basically perfected this strategy. unity through nuanced ideals is far harder to maintain, and unity through apathy even more so.

  8. Some times games are woke and it'd valid criticism such as concord pronouns in bio of every character including the robot. And they had ugly fat character so that game was indeed woke but generally I agree with the state Hella racist people out there.

  9. 5:19 i have to disagree with you in this one scott. Concord was the most WOKE thing ever done at sony… people really have forgotten the real meaning of "woke" and they just use it for everything. But the Concord critisism about being Woke was absolutely right.

  10. You know, maybe…. Hear me out… consider that it just works for the character design, the fact that you not a character designer yourself, take a long look at yourself in the mirror before you cry on Twitter over a fictional video game character being black and a woman… and don’t think this means that people that there are too many white people in media are right either, it’s a duality of dim-witted dumbasses. At the end of the day, it not only makes little to no difference, but no one fucking cares…. (And this applies to multiple communities, sexuality, transgender, etc. extremes on both sides are equally idiotic)
Thank you for coming to my TED talk

  11. My 2 cents: Most people (aka people who aren't racist) who criticize things for being "woke" mean that the entire point (or a very large portion of the point) of the thing is to be woke. It just so happens that when the whole point of an art piece is to be woke, you lose sight of the actual artistry and it inevitably will be bad. BG3 is a great game that happens to have some woke content, whereas Dragon Age: Veilguard is a "woke game," because major pieces of the design philosophy are specifically crafted for wokeness.

Definitely anybody criticizing Houndmaster as being woke needs to delete their Reddit account.

  12. Exactly. Agreed with this. But to stay true to what you said, you gotta talk about all the people crying about the lack of diversity characters or the people saying this new killer is the “first truly dark skinned character” since release while denying Hag’s black identity. There’s nuts both ways.

  13. See I would agree with you in everything except for Concord because if you have played that game (and not many can say that) it’s actually fun the gameplay is really fun the queue times were miserable ya but that’s because many players didn’t wanna play it because it just felt forced I get the same feeling with the new Monster hunter world it’s not about being inclusive many games did that and were super successful like BG3 but it has to be done right with good dialogue not “I’m different why don’t you expect me for who I am” that’s just bad storytelling because NOBODY speaks like that

  14. The reason the community is complaining about that is probably because there was a lot of gamers on dbd twitter complaining about every piece of content coming out was white. Every time there was something coming out next, they would cry on twitter asking for a colored person for next content.

  15. Houndmaster isn’t woke, but she’s a fat fortune teller or sumn. She ain’t no pirate. It’s like skull merchant like wtf is that, if she actually looked like a pirate then I’d have little to no problem with her other than maybe being a beached whale

  16. First, before I get eaten by the comment section, I agree. Hound master isn't woke and people complaining about it are in the wrong here.

But, I must say, take it as criticism, you are very uneducated about the actual topic and definitions of woke and the whole anti-woke movement. It always started as a blacklash against FORCED false illusion of inclusivity by toxic and money hungry companies who never cared about anything. Diversity and inclusivity was mostly badly implemented and actual diversity comes in natural, doesn't have to be forced therefore the whole idea of DEI is complete nonsense and only excuse for corrupted companies to make even more money.

In reality, people complaining about woke everytime they see people of colour everywhere aren't complaining because these characters aren't white. It's because it is clear as to why the character's skin colour was chosen – just to reach the diversity quotas, which leads to having games taking place in historical or geographical settings where half the people are of different ethnicity in places where they should be the minority. Take this example: Imagine if someone made a game taking place in Africa and actual black Africans were the minority there or just some meaningless side characters while the main cast is just White dudes. Doesn't sound fair nor inclusive, does it?

In this situation it is completely natural and acceptable for The Hound Master to be any ethnicity the developers want and the complainers here are an actual minority the anti-woke movement does not accept. These people are just closeted racists who infiltrated the movement or mindless sheep who just listen to grifter youtubers and scream woke at just the colour black.

I hope this helps and please don't take it as hate. I just don't want misinformation to be spread by any side. A lot of anti-woke channel are absolute garbage and many actually hate minorities while also some "woke" channels completely strawman the movement itself and at times support these greedy companies.

  17. I actually think houndmasters pirate aperance is perfect, not a kids cartoon type pirate but an actual pirate. And the noble look your talking about is probrally due too all the fancy stuff she stole.

  18. She looks lame, sounds lame. Weapon animation is satisfying and dog is fine. I think somebody wanted to make an overweight minority woman and squeezed it into one of the tabled ideas they had. They have full time job people who slap your pee pee if you don't have enough of X.

  19. When the voice actor for "The Unknown" passed, I was interested. So I read a little bit about her. She made music and was somewhat active on youtube, She could do a male and female voice. She said that when when she did the voice lines for "The Unknown", she had no idea what the character was going to be. She expressed that she felt exploited a bit by marketing. I imagine someone/somewhere saw that she had the ability to do a male and female voice and jumped on it. I thought that story was a bit interesting. Other than that, I agree in full. A lot of nonsense insecurity. The nuances are probably worth paying attention to though.

  20. I definitely agree about your statement on what you said about both the artistic design and power design. I haven't used the word woke but if I were to id definitely fall into that first category and I can definitely see where this could be considered woke since they decided to stray away from a more accurate design for what they're supposedly going for in exchange for pandering to these other demographics to get money out of them. But, on the other hand I love that they tried to make a dog/trainer duo and I think the artistic design would fit great on a different killer (This includes both skin color and gender). Perhaps she'd be more fitting as a magical gypsy fortune teller type character?

Anyways, this is honestly the most I've talked about it because in my head I think it's a little bit of cringe pandering but I don't care enough to rant about it.

  21. Most people using the term Woke don't even KNOW what the term means or originates from, and are incorrectly using it .
It doesn't even really have to deal with rep in video games tbh.
Its literally nothing but subconscious bigotry, ignorance, prejudice ,OR people are afraid of change.
The world is a little less ignorant the older you get, and you have to acknowledge certain things, and move differently when people really don't wanna.
Like Scott said people need to go back to ACTUALLY criticising Games for being BAD instead of trying to insert Politics or talking about multiverse theory when these ideas, and foundations they know nothing about, and they dont really correlate with the subject Matter.
When they pander call it out, but this is dbd a game that has hella representation, and pandering isnt an exclusive thing to anyone .

  22. Remember the days when someone would be called a f@g despite the person not being homosexual? Woke is by association being used as a derogatory term to label something as a lesser quality or a bad thing in general.

It does not help that people who are actually woke, or certain material has a woke agenda, tend to put themselves in a bad light, whatever stupid reason it may be.

  23. you're completely missing the point about woke games. it's about making shit that panders and not making something that is good and of a decent quality. as for the new killer, idc about color, but her and the survivor are ugly af.
and no one cared back in the day because the products were of good quality and had great stories and gameplay.
now look at something new like Dragon Age, the new one look atrocious and is going to flop 100%. that's what woke is, forcing an agenda into a game that people would otherwise play to avoid reality and escape to somewhere cool, and fun.
People that use 'woke' simply because a character is black are just as retarded as people that call someone who disagrees with them a nazi.
as for the twitter thing, it's great that elon allows such open speech. it let's us weed out the idiots from those of us who can have a rational discussion. And yes, they're idiots on both sides of the isle, always have been, always will be

  24. I disagree very heavily with the idea that people calling things "woke" is a new phenomenon. It's been around forever, it's just had different names. Back in the 360/ps3 years it was dumbfucks screeching about "forced diversity", and hell, even before that, if you go back videogame forum discussions back when GTA san andreas was released, there were tons of dipshits crying and pissing their pants over the idea that they'd have to play as a "ghetto thug" in a videogame.

Just because you personally haven't seen it or noticed it, doesn't mean that it wasn't there. Mind you, it wasn't as loud as it is now, social media being more widespread has exasperated the problem, but gamers^tm have by and large always been a collective of little shitheels.
