  1. TO BE FAIR- Some people will be wanting to put non-reworked characters, against reworked or new characters/perks, to see how they compare.

Like, comparing how T3 Myers with Bam, Superior A., Fire up, and Dark Arrogance, compares to the new survivor vault perk. Neither Myers, N'or those perks, are among what's reworked, but comparing the best killer vault, against the new best survivor vault, might be worth knowing and doing.

Or, if there's a new map- Seeing how all the different killers interact with the map. Seeing where Xeno Tunnels, Sadako TVs, Pig's Boxes, etc., spawn in it.

Like, with the last PTB with Vecna before the DND chapter fully came out, if there was some bug with, pinhead's box spawning out of bounds of the map in the dungeon or something, but no one was allowed to play pinhead because everyone needs to try out the new content instead because 'that's what the PTB is for', will mean the bug would only have been found out about in the live release.

PTB isn't just about trying new content exclusively, but also about seeing how old content interacts with new content.

That said… Maybe there should be some sort of incentive to try out the new content in a PTB overall. Any new or reworked character or perk should be free to use for everyone in the PTB, though I assume that's already the case, but in addition to that…

Maybe the game should track how many games or hours someone plays with a new or re-worked character or perk on the PTB, and gives a free bunch of bloodpoints onto their live account to reward/incentivize trying these things out in the PTB? Perhaps the more different variations of combinations involving the reworked content, the bigger the incentive? (So, someone who constantly just runs the same build with the reworked character and four specific perks and two specific add-ons, will get less BP than someone who runs the reworked character, and switches up the perks or add-ons they run every so often.) Incentivizing trying out new and different combinations involving the new content, to see if there's any weird, unintended, buggy interactions between different things.

For example, if there was some weird interaction between a reworked or new character, and the literal least used perk ever in the entire game, with no incentive to try out different perks and combination, this interaction may literally never be discovered. But if people are incentivized to switch up their perks every so often for some free bloodpoints rather than sticking with the meta build they always run, then it may just be stumbled into.

  2. I would be all for Adding the ability to "Demo" new content in customs, since that's a controller environment to practice. HOWEVER, if it were added, I want the option to Adjust survivor bot levels too.

(Meaning "Level 1 bot" for the clueless idiot ai that runs into walls and doesn't know how to counter abilities or dodge projectiles, and level 3 for the Sweaty 5K hour juicer bot.)

Reason being, If the killer's using a ranged or Dash power like huntress or Wesker, you are NEVER going to get a hit on these cracked ass Godlooper Bots.

  3. I have experienced this is many PTBs (in fact in most of them to different degrees) and I believe there's a bunch of reasons people are playing on the PTB server but not using the new/update content (or leaving when encountering new/updated content);

1: No DC penalty. The PTB server makes people able to dip out freely if they don't like what is going on (4-man last-second switch to beamers, Skull Merchant, whatever Killer a Survivor despises, one too many flashlight/pallet save etc.). This is by far the main reason why people play on the PTB while not testing new stuff.

2: The new/updated content is worthless or boring (Skull Merchant, ill thought-out "anti-3-gen" system, useless perk nerfs/buffs, unpopular Killer changes etc.), for example no one gives a crap about Knight since they limited slowdown, as most Knight players wouldn't do much else, so Knight won't be interesting even though they weakened his ability to 2v1 in chase and gave him the option to switch guards (admittedly decent changes although Carnifex needs a bit of love imo).

3: No MMR. Killer players that normally purposefully hold back (in order to stay against average Survivors and still have fun with the game, be able to use low-tier Killers and perks other than meta perks and not lose weight from stress) can sweat as much as they want without fear of ending up against cracked/toxic Survivors that will make them turn off the game or force them to play in ways they don't like (tunneling/camping etc.) to compensate. Very skilled Survivor players (likely using a smurf/side account) sometimes deal with something similar as purposefully dying slightly lowers the chances of being hard-tunneled/witnessing someone being hard-tunneled and makes the Killer variety pool a tad bigger, the PTB server's lack of MMR removes that dilemma.

4: Free and numerous Auric Cells makes people able to get cosmetics/characters that they don't have normally (usually licensed/costly stuff), for some it is a way to "test" those things to see if they want them in their main account while for most it's simply a way to enjoy free content that would otherwise be paywalled. The PTBs are common enough that some people almost exclusively play PTBs over the actual game.

5: Especially for paragraphs (Survivor-only) there's very little actual new content (a Survivor is effectively a skin with 3 perks which are often either trash, niche or gen-speed perks) to test and it's a matter of days before people start using the new content less if they didn't like it.

6: With the recent discovery that BHVR actually has a "consultant" team of players to give their two cents about upcoming content (whether they are listened to or not and whether these decisions are ill-thought-out or not is another matter entirely) having PTBs not be solely used for testing new content is probably not that big of a deal for BHVR and it's unlikely countermeasures will be made to account for this.

7: As the PTB isn't on consoles (which makes up the majority of the playerbase even if many people don't want to accept it) the pool of players is much smaller and it's much faster for people to get bored of the new/updated content (especially if said content is boring/uninteresting for a player) which furthers reduces the usage of new content (depending on quality).

It's sad, unfortunate and disappointing, but it's not surprising given the game's current state.

  4. i mean, this is an issue with any fame with a ptb. imagine ur super low income and ur like "huh i could spend 20$ to get this…or go play ptb and get it for free" hell im even guilty of this way back in my younger days, going into the WoW ptb just to be able to run dungeons and bgs without having a paid sub. honestly the best fix for this would be disable everything that isnt actively changing with the next patch so that the ptb testers have a set amount of things to mess with.

  5. 3:30, they had the teachable back then, but no add-ons.
it be pretty sucky if a new bubble player got speed limiter on their first go & not knowing what it does.
They should run at least one universal perk in order to prevent the achievement of getting the Adept

  6. tbh after watching my friends start the game and want to test stuff, bhvr should bring back the offerings to test killers, tbh they should also have something like a skin test ticket as well because sometimes ud get a skin use it and be like oh ew i dont like this,

  7. Splinters would be cool if added back but they were removed due to issues that cause certain killer powers to combine and it also caused issues with addons and perks even tho it says you don’t get perks or addons sometimes the spaghetti code had problems and stuff happened. You could get wraith addons on pig or have like 2 perks only for some reason or play Michael with no terror radius and still have Billy’s saw , etc

  8. I think bringing back the splinters were problematic which is why they got removed. What I would like to see is some kind of rental system to try killers you don't own. Make it a certain amount of blood points to rent a killer for 2 hours. You can not spend points on them but you get approximately 5 of every add-on as well as unlock all perks on them to playtest with for that 2 hour period. Once the time frame is up, you lose the killer and whatever add-ons were left and are given the option to buy them if you want

  9. Note: I am aware that PTB in DBD's case is "public test build" but beta and player test beta are terms that have been used in games for years, so I have always called it that. There's no difference, like how in American English, shop and store are interchangeable. Sorry for the confusion this caused!
