The Otzdarva Experiment

Is hiding your Dead by Daylight hour count on Steam truly a game-changer? Just two weeks ago, popular content creator Otzdarva stirred the community by claiming that killers often target survivors based on their hour count. Today, we’re putting this theory to the test. Otzdarva’s perspective sparked debate on DBD Twitter, but we’re diving into the gameplay to see if there’s any truth to it. Join me as I play on my 50-hour hardcore survivor account, facing off against experienced killers at the top of the MMR ladder. Let’s find out if my low hour count makes me a prime target for tunneling, or if it’s just a myth. Welcome to the investigation!

  1. I mean I think they do go after the weakest person they see while playing if they get behind. But I’ve literally had killers ignore me all match because of my hours (I don’t hide them) in end game chat tell me they didn’t even want to try. They killed my whole team wouldn’t hit me wouldn’t chase me and just let me have hatch weirdest match ever I thought maybe I knew them or something.

  2. I like how that wesker was hitting on hook probably because of OTR, DS and DH but if you didn’t tunnel the shit out of someone right off hook then you wouldn’t even know they have that except DH 😭

  3. Try making it less obvious next time, this video doesn't prove anything lol. You have one game in steam profile, low hours in game and a dbd related name at the highest mmr. People aren't stupid they probably knew you were a smurf

  4. idk, faking being bad kind of ruins the experiment. while i can agree with the hypothesis, the testing wasn't good.

First chase is just first chase, you take what you see, you leaving yourself in the open and baiting it means nothing. Showing you are a potential weak link initially will definitely get my attention, after all usually killing is the goal.

Taking first hook makes you a lot closer to being out of the game than the other people. good job, you faked your skill level, baited someone and then turned the heat up.

"Am i playing too well?" shouldn't be something you ask yourself if "is low hour count why people tunnel?" the hypothesis. Maybe the reason you get tunneled is because you're baiting them to tunnel you by being just 'bad' enough to keep them chasing you. This entire experiment is worthless and flawed, nice skills but whatever.

  5. My strategy (as a low hour killer – sub 1000 total played in game) is to tunnel what I feel is the easiest down at start of game to 2nd stage. If I manage this and I'm comfortably in the lead (such as zero or one gen done) I'll mix it up and spread hooks a bit more knowing I've hopefully made the game a bit better for everyone.

If I'm well behind (3/4 gens complete) I'll try for 1 or 2k and consider than a gg from me regardless of method / amount of tunnelling etc. End of the day if I get a good lead and can make everyone's game better, good! If I get smashed then they NEVER slow down to make my game better, they always just teabag and troll for lols at my expense.

  6. When I see a super low hr Surv I always go after them first if I see them. I also make sure to give them extra love & hits when they're on first hook. Then I tend to spend the rest of the match giving them nodders and memeing. Unfortunately this results in DC's before I even hook them the first time more often then not. shrug Not my problem. If they stuck out the match they would have had a fun end game experience.

  7. One thing I want to note that might not be obvious watching this video, I tried for 6 hours including using different names and not pretending to be bad at all.
The account was not perfect and 50 hours might be too low to not be an obvious smurf on high mmr, but it can always be the friend of a high mmr player.
There is no way to tell for sure what makes Killer players tunnel/not tunnel but I think in the grand scheme of things this was still a relevant test given the sample size.

  8. I love how the Myers recognized you can't win mindgames like that at 50 hours and not even considered the possibility of you just being a smurf. No it HAD to be hacks, as a comp player he'd know
