a theory a friend gave that we THINk makez sense on why itz power feelz so unrelated iznt even anything to do with lore, itz the meta reazon of the team made this whole chapter by working backwardz from "design a killer who primarily wants to chase outside of line of sight", which led to bouncy tf2 demoman projectile, and also the overall urban legend/cryptid theming, az found footage horror and urban legendz very often utilize seeing glimpsez of thingz but never a full clear picture of the creature, like how the team wuz intending this thing to play.
really no matter wut itz power would prolly have been unrelated to lore or wutever, i have no clue how you'd do a power relating to a sorta "dont think it dont say it" horror tulpa, at least not within the limitz of this game. and everyone knowz actually making the skinwalker SPY tf2 would never rly work az sumthingz primary power. guess people generally just wanted sumthin more feral feeling like demogorgon or victor, though personally i think that we've got plenty of straight up rushdown killerz in the game, to the point it kinda bleedz into the other archetypez like with how much more capable trickster iz of just RUNNING at people now.
I dont personally enioy or agree with the criticism that his power does not match this killer. Who cares? Majority agrees that the power is very fun, and with some slight tweaks of balance and hit boxing and clunkiness, so it's still a great Killer and power.
Definitely should have saved this power for like a frog man killer or something that could shoot out blobs. The unknown definitely should have been like a crawling stealth killer because his animation in the lobby looks great in game it probably would be scary as hell.
I think they shot themselves in the foot with the advertising. Marketing team did their job well in terms of quality and hype, but the teasers gave the wrong impression for sure.
Yeah… I was super excited for this killer and then I saw the goopy ball launcher thing… there's no way I'm buying this killer anymore lmfao. I'll wait for the next thing they release.
The direct hit does something but it’s basically nothing, it does apply hindered but it’s either bugged or the hinder is like .01% so it basically doesn’t do anything because I’ve been direct hit before and it feels like I wasn’t hindered at all
On paper, the grenade launcher neck toxin makes sense. It's what it uses to cause people to hallucinate. In practice, it feels tacked on because they already made a robot killer, and having another robot but with a grenade launcher would be redundant.
Personally, I love to use the hallucinations, so they're a fantastic addition to the game. Both for teleporting, and using with Insidious (and other undetectables) to set up jumpscares.
A second part of the power that would be more satisfying than the grenade launcher would be the ability to go undetectable and move at an extreme speed, crawling around on all fours creepily; while doing so, you can't attack so it's primarily a mobility ability. Naturally, you could have the aura that the hallucinations have, and through enough proximity, survivors would become weakened so that you can spawn more hallucinations. With it, I would remove the cap on hallucinations, allowing you to spawn as many as possible making it potentially a nightmare if survivors let it go unchecked.
They teased this being a stealthy, creepy killer, and in some aspects it delivers, but at no point does a hallucinogenic venom blast make me think creepy crawly monster immitating human.
The thematic for this character is a 10/10. The voicelines are perfect, both in game and in menu. In menu, it sort of builds a story that it's been around for a long, long time. So long that it used to be in dungeons pretending to be chests or maidens to rescue to lure in unsuspecting adventurers; a literal D&D mimic. The in-game voicelines give the impression that they're not voices of people it's devoured, but rather just phrases used to lure people and catch them off guard. "Can you help me find my dog?" "Help… help me with this." "Want some… free candy?" "You're gonna wanna come look at this." and other similar phrases. When it moris people, it drops the act and directly confronts them, revealing its potentially high intellect. "Now, I'm mad." "Die." "Here's to looking at you." It's like it is disgusted with people as much as they might be disgusted with it, and simply looks at them like animals to be eaten; the mori leaves no trace, tongues come out of a mouth on the back, so it's very clearly eating the survivors.
There's even some hidden parts of the power that aren't in the description that can be used, which is always nice. Like Chucky's third person view is a power in itself, this killer's voicelines are part of the power. When survivors are within a certain range, voicelines will be said in an attempt to lure the survivors. It's like a reverse lullaby that both parties can hear, and it can help notify that a survivor is close for the killer. The hallucinations also make voicelines, but they do so at intervals and not because someone's getting close; it's a way to prevent survivors from listening for voicelines to know it's close. Very well thought out, and potentially really useful. Additionally, Unknown can stand atop his hallucinations to make them turn invisible. This allows him to disguise himself as one of them, as the aura will still be present and survivors can even interact with it while you're there. My only major gripe is that it takes a perk slot to really utilize the full potential of this ability for misdirection, similar to Doctor. If the grenade launcher gets untouched, I'd want the interaction with standing over a hallucination to change to give you automatic undetectable; even if it's just an add-on.
Anyways, I find the killer very fun, grenade launcher and all.
Hearing you say his aesthetic doesn’t match his power, as a negative point, was surprising. You’ve made a point before about not caring about lore/aesthetic about a character and only care about how fun it is on both sides.
Also the fact that they show him crawling and he doesn’t do it in game at all which is disappointing because i feel like there are few ways they could of corporate his crawling movement in his gameplay and kit
The thing with hitting directly, is that when you hit them, they are Hindered, but you are also slowed as you put it away, so it ends up not doing anything
Honestly for me, he just feels really bad to play because of the animations. For some reason, having the projectile be at the bottom of the screen instead of from the right or left sides really mess with me. The camera angle or weapon holding or something makes me hate his POV. I know I'm most likely on a solo hill here, but it's gotta be the worst part of this chapter.
It's a shame, his power feels bad and is so mismatched to the design it's ridiculous. The teleport is the only redeeming feature of the entire design and I'm sure it'll be nerfed.
This killer reminds me a lot of blight when he first came out. All the lore built up with the blighted flowers and stuff. Then he comes out and is silly pinball man.
To be honest everyone that plays regularly this game already knew this killer was not going to be like the trailers. Imagine them releasing a trailer where he just runs and fire the goofy goo launcher
Here's hoping they release "Unique" killers that can only use a set few perks so their power isn't balanced around the giant bloat of power that is perks.
i mean i havent read the lore but i saw somewhere that hes a military experiment gone wrong basically? i mean bare with me it only took me a few seconds to piece 1+1=2 but if they are trying to create some sort of super soldier or idfk im jus goin off that, and its learning from the military, seeing all these weapons and shit, maybe wouldnt it make perfect logical sense that just like its trying to emulate someone in need of help when it talks, maybe, just maybe if we think just maybe its trying to emulate all of the weapons it was training with and or trying to be as human as possible aka talk and pretend like its someone in need and its trying to be a soldier with a grenade launcher? idk it seemed pretty 1+1=2 to me but maybe im super wrong, now if that is the lore a military experiment gone wrong then my theory i would say makes sense, but if im just readin wrong shit then can someone tell me in very short what the lore of this. THING is 😂 cant lie the killer looks fuckin cool man, the aesthetic is fuckin awesome
Omg, every main dbd killer (d3ad spookyloopz etc. Were praising this spaghetti man with a toupee. I thought that I was crazy because I was confused that the uvx sticks out like a sore floating mandible neck thumb. Good map, music, design but bad power. Yet another victim to a killer remake.
I think the look of the grenade launcher power would be better if it was red and looked more like an explosion that is a messy blood ball rather than purple energy ball.

Okay now do the survivor and her perks. What's that, you don't want to go through the survivor perks because they all suck, got it lol.
When I saw the killer the first time I thought his power was gonna be a like a charge lunge/shamble that was gonna look scary af.
Then he GOOPED me ;_;
Everyone focused on Scotts interpretation of the killer. Me focused on the fact he got the nomenclature of a grenade launcher wrong
I dont personally enioy or agree with the criticism that his power does not match this killer. Who cares? Majority agrees that the power is very fun, and with some slight tweaks of balance and hit boxing and clunkiness, so it's still a great Killer and power.

cant wait to verse another killer that can pull up a hit whenever you look at a window but this time its undodgeable 😂
Killer designs have been going downhill since 2019

Not an issue, just something I noticed.
They should just rework the power
Yeah, the power do not match the killer design in any way.
This teleport should have been for Freddy
Singularity isnt hard its just annoying to play you have to use 110% of your brainpower all the time so its exhausting
Also the fact that they show him crawling and he doesn’t do it in game at all which is disappointing because i feel like there are few ways they could of corporate his crawling movement in his gameplay and kit

I think overall the character is amazing but the ability is trash. I just see glop from the robot guy with Camaras
I think it'd maybe be cool where bouncing it increases its velocity and makes the aoe a tiny bit bigger. Might make it more worth to go for ricochets
they should seriously start doing like poles on killer powers and abilities and they can work out the kinks with timing and addons etc.
cause this was a really confusing killer tbh.
It's a shame, his power feels bad and is so mismatched to the design it's ridiculous. The teleport is the only redeeming feature of the entire design and I'm sure it'll be nerfed.
3:50 i almost choked on my food
100% the power doesn't match the killer. I've been waiting for some to validate my feelings about that. Thank you.
one of these days theyll make an actual rake-like cryptid killer that can stealth on all 4s and crawl over map junk. one of these days…
Goopy launcher…
Man Bazooka
This killer reminds me a lot of blight when he first came out. All the lore built up with the blighted flowers and stuff. Then he comes out and is silly pinball man.
Trailers= Creepy stalker creature of the Abbys.
Gameplay = deformed Dwight with a goo launcher.
To be honest everyone that plays regularly this game already knew this killer was not going to be like the trailers. Imagine them releasing a trailer where he just runs and fire the goofy goo launcher
Why does the unknown look like Dwight?
Here's hoping they release "Unique" killers that can only use a set few perks so their power isn't balanced around the giant bloat of power that is perks.

To be fair they said they’d never do mimic abilities because it’d be hard countered by swf
So I never expected it to actually involve his mimicry
Holding your power should make bounce stronger tbh like clown throw
I think the look of the grenade launcher power would be better if it was red and looked more like an explosion that is a messy blood ball rather than purple energy ball.
Agreed the power is a complete mismatch and ruins the immersion completely. It’s a fine idea but NOT a good match at all.
SM unsalvageable? how dare you Scott, poor form sir
