See if you have a guy like this explain competitive properly then I get it. I always thought DbD comp was stupid and just dumb… and my opinion has changed just because of how this person explained it.
Bro said Laser is a respectable pub player, this is how you know this video is waffle man.
MOST PLAYERS ARE BAD just like you said that’s why they don’t like comp players bc they are actually good
jesus christ, never knew/heard about knightlight, but already got a strong bad opinion on him
Video is actually on point for the most part and it was nice to watch.
I’m curious tho, are you aware that I have not played a single comp game in my life and my dbd opinions are solely based on thousands of hours of playtime in pubs?
Where can I find the full vod for 6:56
As a person that was in comp dbd from 2019-2023 (last summer) this was really well done and put together overall. Many times you said something that I was so spot on. I did drop it due to how over the top comp going now. I like it when it was a fun small on the side thing that no one know about it. Think around 2020 (Hexy BOTB) I played in was the one tourn that change it all. From playing in Dead By ESports before it folded and a bit of DBDLeague when it was new. Just like how small focus it was back then. The more popular streamers in early DBD days were casual fun while now it's more competitive ones. it's not a bad thing it's just more are going to tell the viewers those strategies and it just gets more and more bigger to the where are public lobbies feel more like chaos scrims than anything else. (yes on the devs to fix stuff) Obviously MMR was more of a focus but comp definitely made the competitive optimal efficient gameplay more popular. DBD just not the fun party game as what got me into it in 2017. After hitting 15K hours, not sure how much longer I can keep going. But great edited video tho!

I agree
Fall guys is so over competitive for no reason
That part about comp players being extremely annoying is so true. I’ve seen and had friends who went into comp dbd and it’s troublesome how increasingly annoying and egotistical they become. And I’ve even seen comp players call in their squad to harass other streamers on twitch when they get into it with them. Just gross behavior overall
does anyone have the link for this video? 10:39
well said & very entertaining. i enjoy watching comp but the ego wars are difficult to look at.
Oh no Zeb XD
I really enjoy watching comp DBD and was considering dabbeling into it myself. This video pretty much explains every problem point I see with it. I enjoy watching it but the immaturity and overall behaviour of the general comp scene does not make me want to get too involved in it. Neither as a player nor as someone who actively supports it
Comp has a lot of potential and I would love for it to reach it
Interesting video. I come from competitive scenes from other games (Starcraft/Street Fighter) and to me DBD is my casual chill game. So I'm in the middle ground of finding a lot of what pub players complain about annoying and inaccurate, the amount of DBD pub players who think the game is sweaty because match making exists when really that doesn't have much to do with the meta of how the game is played for example. That being said the people who take DBD seriously, like comp players, are often WAY to sensitive about it. People complain as killer for having a good game then getting T Bagged at the end, but to me thats part of the fun, I love nodding as killer when they T-Bag, I'll hit the side of the exit gate, its the only form of interaction you can do in the game. I think I've gotten past most of the bitterness that comes with trying to be very good at games, so I legit see people T-Bagging at the end of a match as form of "GG" they had fun, and most of the time I do to. Surv feels harder because you have less to control, but I'll still try and point/nod/engage with the killer where I can because its part of the game, if they camp/tunnell me off hook it is what it is, no hard feelings.
Have fun out there people, DBD is already a weird and hard enough game to get into and play at a fun level before Comp stuff, so you gotta take the good times well and not assume that every other player is trying specifically to be a dick to you because 99/100 times they legit just trying to enjoy the game.
Honestly.
Who cares about the comp players except the comp players themselves?
Seen first hand how fragile KnightLight's ego is, as is many of the top comp players.
The community at large does not care about nade up rulebooks, nor does Behaviour really care about balance.
The issue isn't their skill, they are quite skilled.
The issue is ego.. I am sure most of the casual community aka pubs would not sit there with a bad taste in their mouth aftr interacting with the comps if they actually tried to uplift the community as a whole instead of shitting on those not as good as them(which is everyone)
There are prob the survivors that think that even wanting to win at the game makes you a sweaty tryhard who had to have been hurt to (at least that’s what I feel like)
THIS IS 100% a VALID criticism. As a comp player you gotta realize the game ur sweatin in IS GOOFY ASF. This game having a comp scene is something to be grateful and is still in it's baby steps. Eternal and some elysium members have been around and in their late 20's, early 30's. People who have been around so long and just some random players who ended up being REAL good at the game. Not too mention are content creators who are the only people really content creators in this scene too who are well known enough. They are NOT the majority tho which is a thing to remember. People have bad games and say real stupid shit but as a content creator makin yourself as an example for others to follow and actin the way you critiicize others is wak.
Best things to realize is that this game is played for fun with no other clear objectives escape or die to the majority player base so who honestly cares. Not excusing Knightlight or Xeno AT ALL. They are for sure ego boosted but as the new gen of players who play comp it is OUR responsibility to pick up the mantle and show that while we are playing the game differently it is STILL THE SAME GAME ALL PLAYERS PLAY. From my experience comp gives me a chance to sweat and be competative; then play pubs w no restrictions and banned perks which makes me love the game even more. Giving a sense of how far the game has come and the fun play styles that exist within it.
So to any other comp players who see this appreciate what you got and embrace that you even have the chance to play this game competatively. Do better and let's be the better example of how not to be an ego boosted nerd
(Thanks for the video essay Killa, needed sum to watch so I could eat my food.)
Tbh, I will always think that investing thousands of hours getting comp on a hide and seek horror party game is too silly and weird. Playing DBD pubs not thinking about meta strategies can still make you burn out after a few days, that's why I can't fathom spending weeks and months to learn and memorize every nook and cranny on the aspect of an intentionally not really balanced party game.
I already have 1k hours (not much for dbd pro standards I guess lmao), but I think I'll stick to just using Head On in every single matches just cause it's funny to mess around in DBD
Nice video brother
Good dinner eating material
I would love to have quickplay 1v1 as a normal mode.
Great video. But where you talk about “the average player could get there with 1000 hours and some YouTube videos” there being a good player or comp level player you are very wrong. 1k hour is not enough to learn all the check spots imaginary lines. All the techs and individual killer counterplay. Mind games at loops and chaining tiles together. Zoning and heartbeat reading and listening through walls and macro survivor knowledge and killer awareness kinda stuff. 1 k hour is simply just not enough time playing the game. I’d say 2-3k at least which is a lot. Not to say you can’t be good with 1k hours. You can definitely preform well in pubs with 1k hours. But when you dip your feet in the comp scene you will get brutally humbled like everyone there does when they first join. They’re better than you can imagine and you won’t even know why for the first 500 hours you’re there. They will run you for 5 mins on suffocation put in a 1v1 and you’ll get brutally mindgamed. And after some experience you will see that you might’ve been decent before you played any comp. But you are not even close to actually being good
The one time I VSd KnightLight in pubs we had a good laugh about it, but I am not surprised that he has an ego, he is very young and one of the best players, both are breeding grounds for having an ego the size of mars, but my experience with him has been positive, but it was also just one match.
I've never seen a single person talking about ego not having one themselves. Furthermore the more they talk about it the more ego they have. I think the best solution about this kind of players is to quit the conversation once "ego" is mentionned.
Only salty teenage kids would beg for a 1v1 after beating them. Who tf 1v1s on dbd??? At that point obviously you’re gonna hold a chase the whole time! You have ALL the pallets to yourself lol
Pubs will always be harder than comp. If youre good in pubs, you can probably take any comp team lmao
it doesn't help that the comp players are the most reject people on the planet
wasnt expecting to see hexherbz in a video
my favorite modifier was lights out! I loved the no perks on either side…no lethal pursuer, no gen pop, no darkness revealed, no noed (from killer or survivor POV)…
I just can't take people that think they're good at video games because they play dbd at high level serious.
6:43 ironic coming from a guy who made a video about why he wishes dead hard was removed, you basically said the same thing he said
Great video, but I haven't burst out laughing at a thumbnail in years. It eviscerated me.
Scott Jund has such a big ego
6:47 You said Any meanwhile in his tweet it is clearly written "most of the time" Also why using the word skill issue ? Yes this is what he meant but skill issue has a toxic meaning to it which the tweet clearly doesn't have. This tweet is good and positive, saying that people should blame themselves most of the time and improve from their mistake, IT EVEN HAS A LIL CUTE THUMBS UP AT THE END. And about the " I play for fun " I doubt it.. Eveyone says that until they lose then they complain. Truth is, winning is fun, improving is fun and so far the tweets you showed only push towards that which is good.
To resume the video, delete twitter improve your life
Amazing video ❤
Love how a lot of perks banned in comp are considered average or weak (blood favor f.e.), while boring shit like noed, no way out etc is allowed😂 glad to be a casual player who just plays off meta stuff and unique builds because it's fun and catches people off guard (f.e. blood favor builds, hex builds in general, dragon's grip builds, agi/mad grit/iron grasp backpacker…)
