Welcome friends and foes, Survivors and Killers. Today we’ll be talking about one of the original Killers who’s gained quite the following since DBD’s release: the Wraith. We’ll be looking at the historical context behind the Wraith’s lore and discussing how the Nigerian Civil War shaped Philip Ojomo from an innocent young boy into a tragically unwilling servant of the Entity.

Got any suggestions for things you want me to discuss? Leave a comment and I’ll add it to my list!

  1. luckily I had already researched a little bit on the Nigerian civil war (not nearly as in-depth as this video though) because I was curious on how the political band Dead Kennedys singer Jello Biafra got his stage name. he directly chose it because of the juxtaposition of the American abundant snack brand, Jello, and the country where 2 million people starved to death, Biafra. idk it's interesting

  2. "Wraith hasn't really fill out a similar pop-culture idea"
While wraith is a pretty clear predator-inspired killer with his ability to become invisible, his ability to see blood more clearly through his perks, he even has a perk called "predator" and the skull weapon is a trophey for predators. So yeah, no, He is definetely inspired by Predator, but because he isn't alien like people just can't see these pretty clear references in his design

  3. people here are listening to PBE explaining the sad backstory of the wraith, meanwhile half my focus is on the twins perks mod and figuring out which one is which by looking at their behavior.
i've figured out B&C, Pop, Devour Hope, and Corrupt (tho instead of B&C PBE had coup de grace, who isn't modded, here since it's originally the twin's perk).

  4. i dont think african genocide is the place to make dumb ass among us jokes bro. you dont have to try and be funny constantly, i'm disappointed to see a story this like, serious be treated in such an unrelentingly joking manner. love your vids but i really dont like the presentation of this

  6. To remedy the inconsistency of philip being a northerner- the genocide he is going through in his tome could be the 1966 anti-Igbo pogrom instead of the nigerian civil war; The anti-igbo pogrom specifically targeted people of southern origin who physically lived in the north. Doesn't fix bhvrs shit writing but its somewhat more consistent ig?

  7. I know this is kinda far fetched but I think Wraith might be based off Erik (aka the phantom) from Phantom of the Opera. Appearance wise Wraith wears a cloak like garment and his burns are somewhat hidden, he uses a musical instrument to make himself known to everyone around him. Somewhat story wise too, both characters have been treated in a extremely cruel manner over something they cannot control so in response they become cruel to people who pushed hatred upon them. They both also want to be loved, kept safe, and have their family. Plus they both lose the innocence of their childhood over what has happened to them and they also bring death where ever they go no matter what they do. I know this somewhat makes no sense but then again why would they choose Wraith to have a Phantom of the Opera skin when they have other disfigured characters to use instead
