Fans of horror and TTRPGS are in for a treat, as asymmetrical slasher sim Dead by Daylight is crossing over with tabletop roleplaying game Dungeons & Dragons for a new content update that adds celebrity lich Vecna to the game as a playable killer. The update also includes a new dungeon-based level, as well as a bard survivor character, and a bunch of other cool nods to D&D lore.

See the public test build version of the update in action as Mike and Andy take it for a spin, and subscribe for more videos like this from Outside Xbox!

The Dungeons & Dragons Dead by Daylight chapter launches on 3rd June.

  1. I find this idea extremely weird, not just because theyโ€™re putting DnD into DBD, but because Vecna seems like the kind of character who would overthrow the Entity, not serve it.

  2. I don't play Dead by Daylight, but I did keep up with it for a time, the killer brother and sister being the last one I heard about. I can't help but think that this is just Vecna taking a vacation from his usual schemes and plots for power to just meet The Entity and use its demi-plane to torture some souls he has captured or test some of his most noteworthy cultists.

Thanks for the upload and content. I enjoyed the video.

  3. No idea why they chose people that do not play DBD to showcase this. This wouldn't entice me to try it out if I was a new player, it just looks clunky, confusing and boring. As someone who has been playing for months it's just painful anf frustrating to watch. They seem to not have an understanding of even the basic mechanics, and one of the players actively dislikes the game. Not sure why they decided to go this way when showcasing new content for a game that has been out for years

  4. Huh, I might actually pick this DLC up. I very rarely play DbD, I'm with Andy, I like the idea but not so much the execution, basically just play every once in awhile with a few friends, but would love to have a sprinkle of DnD fun in it.

  5. Vecna was a really cool idea. But switching between spells is clunky, and recovery after casting them is so long they're basically useless, especially fly. The skeletons are trivial to avoid, mage hand doesn't last long enough to mean anything except maybe if you're stopping a god pallet. His most practical ability is the painfully slow moving sphere.

  6. Very cool to see you play this! I like seeing D&D stuff showing up in more mainstream places, and all the interest and content being created for it right now.

You mentioned Stranger Things – I know there are Vecna campaigns available in D&D, so I'm not entirely sure if the characterwas created for Stranger Things or not. I suspect it's probably older, but I'm not entirely sure. I've played some 1st, 3rd, and 5th editions over the years but there are people way better versed in the worlds and lore than I am.

  7. I love you guys so much, and understand you are game reviewers. It's still kinda hard to watch you guys play without perks equipped ๐Ÿซฃ I wonder if this explains why Andy had a bad DbD experience.

Thank you for trying new things ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’š๐Ÿ’™

  8. When Andy had DBD as his "couldn't ever get into it" game I was so sad.
I am glad to see some of the squad at least giving this killer another go.
Dont forget, the entity chose generators for their trials. So that poor elf had to learn generator repair, 10 minutes at a time in an endless cycle.

  9. Better idea than generators, just doing a magic ritual to a deity's idol, can still go wrong and explode, still have to crouch and fiddle with stuff, is totally liable to open a portal to escape, thank me later Behaviour Interactive.

  10. I presume this was a "ooooh, dnd relevant release. Quick! To the content mobile!" Situation? Honestly this game is tolerable with the full crew, but lacklustre with only Andy and Mike. No shade on Mike or Andy.

  11. Feels like one of those crossover events from a gacha app. Content that just doesn't really make any sense, and doesn't fit the game. I'm quite confused about what the devs think D&D even is, or why fans like it.

  12. I love you guys but I do recommend you research some DBD content creators that can teach you how to play and learn some basics like using perks as you've missed a good portion of the content without.
