I'm live RIGHT NOW doing my 4th annual Halloween subathon! 10 day cap! Come say hello 🙂 https://www.twitch.tv/spooknjukes
Dude racism still exsists? As a hispanic person, I got bumped into and called the N word. Like I took a moment to educate someone on slurs. The words have weight, and also why would you want to use them? Like N word is not 'Cool' F slur isn't 'Cool', like even in COD lobbies the Gamer word didn't get the cool kid points it was the sick burn. Context and Intention is the worst defense I've heard, like just don't use slurs.
I just hate the "If it doesnt effect me, its not a problem" Its just an excuse for entitled people
I honestly wish I could have been a part of this. But alas, I will never contribute to Elon Musk's downfall of the app 😢
But I bet debating with you in a friendly manner would be a good experience to hear more angles I'm maybe missing in my mindset
i gotta be real. If WORDS are enough to hurt your feelings to the point of being actually upset, i think you should reconsider using the internet all together.. people have gotten WAY too soft when it comes to trash talk and words being "hurtful".. The real world isn't nice.. its never going to be nice.. so to try to pretend it is in certain places gives people these unrealistic expectations that the world is going to cater to their feelings… when it comes to children thats one thing.. but a game thats rated for 17 and up it is moot.. people say messed up things.. thats reality… to get upset at words is pretty ridiculous and super petty. No one is going to cater to your feelings and worry about offending you.. thats the real world.. the internet is not a nice place.. its become super ridiculous with how petty grown ups have become when it comes to online insults… its not that serious..going beyond trash talking and online insults is one thing.. but i mean.. seriously.. trash talking in video games has always been a thing.. cod lobbies were a thing…
I think people have seriously gotten way too soft.. if you get upset or offended by words.. regardless of the words.. you need to get thicker skin.. just my opinion.. i don't really trash talk at all online.. but this is just my opinion. i do agree that its nice to try to be polite to people and consider their feelings… but im just realistic.. to punish people for not doing that.. i just think thats kinda ridiculous..
God, I'm physically disabled, and most people assume I have a mental/learning disability. Due to stereotypes of people that some might think they're mentally/learning disabled. Like my posture, voice, etc. I've been called the R-slur many times and I'm physically disabled obviously. It's not ok at all to say it. Disability has a branch, and the slur is thrown at anybody that has any disability. I wish disability had more education and not viewed as a set thing.
8:48 is where it starts to go downhill.
12:20 is where it goes off the rails
Did you guys know that retardation is negative acceleration?
Is the R word a slur on twitch? Lots of steamers use it and arent banned
It is difficult to listen to this kid.
he had a good argument until he was like "im having a bad game and i call someone the n word" lost me there chief.
I'm still onboard with words like re/gay, because I feel if a persons offended by that, its not my job to be polite to people, nor respectful to people that otherwise are strangers. If they are offended or think im toxic, whatever they are more than free to mute me. I may say things like this in the heat of a moment sometimes like "ah man that was so gay" or "man I'm so retarded for doing that." the problem generally is we take all personal responsibility away and FORCE it onto others. You can argue with the term force, but really it is. People try to demonize and hurt those that use words they deem inappropriate in ways that go beyond the scope. I've had it happen to me for saying "gay" before and I had a person witch hunt me, go after my socials, message people I knew, all because I said gay one time. Reason being is because they're filled with this form of righteous indignation due to how other people have told them to be about these things.
Dont get me wrong either I'm not saying my language is appropriate in any sense, but I am saying, this is how I talk and how I've always talked and I find it unfair to walk on eggshells around others because someone cant cope with one of 7 billion people on a planet saying something they dont like. Thats where personal responsibility kicks in and they have the option to mute, block, unfriend, etc. They are in no way forced to listen to me, as I am in no way forced to know who they are as a person to react to how I speak. I will never say 'racist' slurs because its just stupid and edgy, theres no reason to. However using slang of a bygone era that I grew up in is a totally different argument, when words had a different meaning. Which is still pretty common today, all things considered. You also could pick up that I call myself things, or say it generally, not so much directed at other people and theres a reason for that. Back when said slang was used, we didnt really call each other gay or retard, maybe close friends because that was normal but if you walked up to a stranger and said "wow you're a gay retard" they would have probably punched you. Nothing's really changed outside the internet crusade to reform language because it "might" hurt someone. Give way too much power to words though, yeah they hurt, we have feelings, I get it, but it shouldnt hurt from strangers over a voice chat, it should hurt from people actively in your life.
Idk just my devils advocate anyway. Felt like spicing up the argument a bit. The truth of the matter that no one really attacks is that no one knows who we are, nor do they know us. You could say really plain things that could really hurt someone, and what then? Theres always someone out there that has had something worse than someone else, and by that metric we would have to speak in code to avoid bothering anyone is the reality. Someone talking about a loving family could hurt me, someone talking about getting a present on christmas could hurt me, someone talking about their girlfriend etc. Theres so many things that have been a negative experience in my life, but at the peak of the issue, you gotta stop making everything personal to you, because it isnt, they dont know you. Which realistically protecting people, only makes them even more vulnerable to when it finally happens and they dont know how to handle it. Mute & block is a function in every game and for good reason. I would have went insane playing MOBA's if I didnt have those features lol.
I am guessing that this guy is short
In my opinion:
The problem I think with the R-word is that, using it as an insult, is literally insinuating that it's insulting to have that mental disability. Which is straight out degrading those who have it.
The N-word being used in rap songs, is not used to insult anybody for being black. When people use the N-word as an insult, they are literally insulting someone for the sake of being black, that's the point of the insult.
Also, the word "offensive" is not referred to just any word that is hurtful. You can say many words to be hurtful, while the word "offensive" is used when you hurt someone for something that they can relate to, i.e if you call someone the r-word they can get OFFENDED because they might actually relate to it personally, being mentally disabled. Calling someone SILLYBILLY, is just simply not offensive, because nobody in history has ever been degraded for being a SILLYBILLY. "Offended" and "hurt" is not the same.
I agree with spooks that there is no reason to use these words as insults, and the fact that people choose them specifically is either because you literally think less of these people for the way they are, or because you have a really ugly habit of using those words. And in the case of it being a bad habit, you can easily change that. There is no reason for anyone who DOESN'T agree with the slurs, to use them. Just because many don't care, many do. And again, it's interesting why these few words specifically are used so often by one person, regardless of the intention.
I can see the merit in what you’re doing with these debates Spooks, but I feel like you shouldn’t allow them the extra platform to peddle their nonsense. They don’t deserve the signal boost, regardless of intentions.
People want to say all this shit then get mad when people call them a dickhead.
I will only say one thing; if one slur is bad all of them are and all should be equally bannable.
why is caller #6 sounds so fine omg
this was kinda pain ful to watch ngl.
What a Silly Billy
idk if the content offends you. Dont watch it.
OMG This guy is incredibly TOOPEED … I hope you rewatch it and realise it. XD thanks for showing these ignorant people. you are right he is in his own bubble. talking to 5 people everyday and saying my friends are cool with me saying the word
That caller's education is so minimal it is truly surprising they are surviving in this world, or that they're even capable of making friends. I doubt that person's "friends" are very in-depth and emotionally available for him, his intellect is also ridiculously low. It felt like how my mum explained to me what slurs were and why I shouldn't use them, except it made sense to me that I didn't want to offend someone… like why would you go out of your way to intentionally hurt someone?!
A good phrase works for him, "You can't reason with stupid" and unfortunately that man has chosen edge over intelligence.
i feel like this topic relates to me as an autistic man now i am not that bad as other people i can live my whole life with out some people finding out i am autistic so here is my take on the R-word. if black people can say a modified N word with an A at the end instead of a hard R then why not have some people say the R word but have it be modified like the N-word. but that is just my 2 cents
unfortunately spooks can't avoid the classic white savior thing, him being a white guy that is at least a little known and makes it known that being mean is mean. At least he's decent, I hope so anyway.
And I work in a prison so all this talk seems a little pointless. You couldn't convince a single guy in orange I gotta deal with to change the words they use. I got whites and blacks calling me beaner and wetback and the mexicans don't like that I don't hate people darker than us.
Fuck
I was in shock watching this live
Bro used the "friend card" 😆 then you have bad friends! Leave people like that, and how can bro say crap like that about depression. This was crazy to listen to. What a clown 🤡
The thing that frustrates me is, they always say its just a word. One word. But what it actually is is people contributing to a constant stream of hate. A woman, when she mutes chat, isn't being sensative over one word, she's being sensative over the thousands of words that people have insulted her with, just because they heard her voice. You can't magically turn the internet into a nice place but why would you want to be part of the probelm?
These people always contradict themselves. It must be hell living in their brains.
"the only reason people stop using the word is because of social pressures, social pressures affect how we exist in the world!"
"I think that suicide rates in minority groups are more affected by other factors than they are by social pressures!"
Like, eat ass and fuck off you piece of shit. Also, trying to call the N word a "gamer word" feels an awful lot like "MAPs" trying to brand themselves as LGBT.
"Sensitive people exist and people are allowed to be sensitive" why do all the Sensitive people make all the rules for Twitch, YouTube, Facebook? Trust me Jukes, and followers of his, they don't need your backing. If someone is so fragile that being called a name makes you "consider stuff" get off the internet and toughen the fuck up. If words offend, then block them, or mute them. People are always going to try and offend you, it's a part of life. I know video games are a form of escapism, but sadly you will never get away. Grow up
I think, tos aside, that people tend to get very caught up about how society will expect you to behave against what you are ALLOWED to say. You can say slurs all you like without your government throwing you in jail forever, but you're gonna go through life with everyone around you thinking you're a bit of an asshole
Trash talk is when you keep it strictly to the competition at hand. It's beyond trash talk when it attacks someone's character, personality, race, or whatever. That's a personal attack. It's not a "gamer word."
Call me the n-word to my face. I don't know his friends. I don't care about his friends. No white person is saying the n-word to my face without me letting them know about how I feel about it.
I'm from Mississippi. I have a history with the word coming from the wrong people.
Let’s be real using these slurs are a spit in the face to the people who have fought for their rights to be here and to not be dehumanized. This argument this guest is bringing is pathetic and a real problem in the world. We are all human and deserve a world without discrimination.
the only thing i kinda disagree with is when mr jukes says call them something else instead like dickhead, but who knows if dickhead may trigger someone for a specific reason, its a rabbit hole that leads to no one daring to say anything for fear of offence
So caller #6 is short 🤷♂️
And dude has friends from every single marginalized group. And he's even from one. He should've stayed behind the keyboard with this shit.
You actually could’ve shattered his logic with a real life situation that already happened that he’s trying to suggest. Years ago Eminem did the exact thing he’s trying to suggest and it had a lot of repercussions behind it which completely destroys his argument about rappers.
The moment he said he was okay with you insulting him, you should've had him agree to you doing that and change the insult every time you started or ended a point
The r word vs the n slur or f slur is the difference of severity. R word isn't as heavy hitting as the 2 other slurs
Isent hillbilly a slur?
As someone who suffers through mental hard R word I definitely would get offended over that. And Spooks everything you said I agreed with keep up the good work man. Keep exposing these people and making them look like fools/clowns
im just struggling to understand why this is a dbd argument, lmao this is some shit youd see on like a podcast or somethin
ngl spooks i really dont like when people compare the r slur to the n word and f word. Like they arent even comparable to the point where the r word should even be a slur. Sure its mean but slurs have fucked up history that R just does not have behind it
All I heard from the dude was excuses to use slurs. Like, will someone be offended to be called a dickhead? Probably, but that is you calling out their personality, or play style when it comes to a video game, not something that can't be fixed or changed. Mentally challenged people can't just be fixed like it is a switch that can be flipped and people of a different skin color can't change what color their skin is.
Its not called mental retardation anymore. Its called Global Learning delay and many many people have it.
The slip was on a mistake you will be fine dude lol probably was just a excuse to get off that terribly hard to deal with call 📞 man his points was mega yikes
goodness…. his points, his angle…..
Its hard to believe thats the hill he wanted to RIP on
What's facinating for the first 10 minutes is he's making points that i can empathise with while not agreeing exactly but then gives exmaples to 'clarify' that lose me completely. like example
"I think people don't really care. they pretend to care"
There is a genuine discussion to be had about people reacting online to harassment or hatred in a fervent passionate way to advocate for those people. Even going too far at times. Only to in their real life not really care if it were to happen in front of them. Keyboard activism is a discussion to be had as to the good and bad ways it can be used it's a neuanced and deep topic (Examples of good and bad versions of this would be racist youtuber is yelled at and eventually banned vs what happened to jocat )
But then he says "If i were black i wouldn't care if someone called me the N word" I doubt that. Your life as a black person would have different perspectives that we as white or even white passing folk can't exactly share the same way the perspective would be different if he was called the N word as a black man and therefore his reaction would change accordingly. Now he could be someone who is OK with it. There are black folk that are few though they may be. Each individual has their own limits for it. Buddy of mine has a limit. If it's said quoting someone or in a song it's totally fine with him. you say it with a hard R not in a song then the gloves come off it's hands on sight. Some people don't like to hear it at all. So even if he was ok with it that is a limited way of thinking at the best situations.
is this a slur? you guys are less advanced in mental development for people of your age
As someone with AuDHD, your statements mean a lot to me, Spooknjukes. Thanks for being someone who actually cares, mate.
You have a great reasoning mind and a tremendous amount of patience debating this dodo.. Kid keeps trying to speak for most people while clearly not experiencing enough of life to have an informed opinion.
