By far, my craziest theory yet for MYSTERIES OF THE FOG! I want to know your opinions about it, do you agree with me? Would you like “The Witch” to ever be a part of Dead By Daylight’s cast? And would you want them to finish the map “Village” ?

Huge thanks to AuM0b for the Dead Lake datamine:

  1. Come on I never knew about the other 2 swamp maps now I want them especially the one with the giant tree I think that one looks so good. But great vid and hopefully they add these 2 new (actually old) swamp maps because I think they would become fan favourites if they added them but who knows.

  2. Since it's heavily inspired from the witch in L4D then maybe the devs could have planned a fully licensed Left 4 Dead chapter with both the killer, The Witch and the survivor, Bill.

And how gnome Chompski were introduced later into the game as an event, maybe The Witch could be included as a killer only paragraph with a L4D tome, but how Behavior said that there'll be no more paragraph yet got 4 licenses into the game where they said there'll only be 3, so it's still possible, but at the same time unlikely

  3. I was watching your gameplay of Clown and I got an idea. What about making the most toxic builds on each killer and record some interesting games and the salt in post-game?

  4. I wish BHVR did better with the Realms. It's nice that there are map offerings that don't guarantee being sent to a particular map like Macmillan and Gas Heaven. (Badham maps are too similar to really count as good variations.) I know the licensed maps have to have their own offerings but I wish the original maps were contained in Realms so a Lery's or Crow's Nest offering doesn't guarantee a particular map, as we have too many map offerings already. I expect that the new killer map for the anniversary will probably introduce another realm and another offering, but I hope it expands an existing realm instead.

  5. take this with a grain of salt:

a couple of years ago a unconfirmed game dev was on reddit answering questions and the hag came up, the og question was along the lines of "how did u come up for the design for the hags traps ( the triangles )" and the response was very bland, talking about how significant the triangle was.. but they made sure to throw in "from the very beginning we wanted a witch like killer, it just took some time for it to be original" im assuming the og hag was heavily inspired by l4d's witch as dbd originally came out on steam, a valve ran company, they got bill and outfits for the og four, i just think they couldnt get a proper license for the witch

  6. That's interesting! Kinda amazing how concepts of maps come to game so good. But I still want to know why there are countries in game files. Why Ukraine for example? Sorry, if its well known info and i'm just slow

  7. LOVE the village map design. Very Resident Evil 4/5 vibes with the platforms and sheds, I did see huge fps drops on the big tree map (probably because of the recording though) but very inspiring stuff! You have yourself a fellow village map follower! lol, hopefully one day! (wouldn't it be cool if the fans could do concepts for a map as part of a contest, like the character ones? just thinking out loud.)

  8. I don't get why you didn't think of Bill Overbeck all the time you were speaking of The Witch. For me, it's clear that they were thinking, from the start of game development, to populate it with a bunch of "real life" killers such as Michael Myers and the Witch from L4D, thus introducing survivors attached to them.
We can't tell exactly why they went down on the Witch idea, but you can be almost completely sure that The Hag wasn't intended to be a basegame killer. Huntress was released even later than Michael Myers himself, but most people consider her a base killer when she's actually not. If you watch "The Texas Chain Saw Massacre" (the first, original one) you'll notice a bunch of things that'll make you think devs wanted to put Bubba from the start. Same for Myers. This game is heavily inspired on that characters (and probably some more).
My point is that The Hag is the product of a misconception and a backstep from the devs, and Bill is the proof of that. They clearly wanted to make a L4D chapter, just like the others.

  9. Definitely an interesting bit of old DBD development lore and gossip since I wasn’t around during that time! That said: I 1000% disagree about finishing and releasing more swamp maps lmao. I hate the current ones, they’re incredibly ugly to look at and I despise playing on them on both sides

  10. isnt it pretty obvious thats its the hag? swamp map and very simular pose and figure. So basically an early version or alternative version of the hag, or maybe they liked that concept art character or the hype around it that they decided to make something from it

i also think that they took inspiration from ledft 4 dead 2 with the swamp and killer model now that i think about it, the village swamp map reminds me a lot of that one l4d2 chapter

  11. This is a really well made theory, however I do think there is a problem, the Wraith was originally supposed to have the swamp as his map and the smasher was going to have Autohaven.
Of course the smasher was scrapped and they couldn't finish the swamp in time so that's why wraith has the junkyard

  12. A worthy note during the games history was that a long long time ago the shack had collision on its roof which allows Nurse to blink on top of it. This was shortly removed after Nurse was released, but it wouldn't surprise me if that was a remnant of a killer idea BHVR had that allowed a killer to climb on/over objects.
