I can understand why people have to play sweaty right now, with how fast gens can be done with the gen bug, killers have to be sweaty, which causes survivors to be sweaty in response
I wish it was about hooks then kills in dbd. I like to play in a fair manner. I don't camp or tunnel or bleed players out. Even if I lose its gg.
I could easily come up with 2 different mmr systems to improve the matchmaking that are better than kills = skill off the top of my head
This issue is more fundamental in my view Bran- the game’s most effective tactics are frustrating for both sides, and even at the highest levels with killers and survivors playing as nasty as possible (with restrictions on perks and addons) several killers still can’t keep up while the top 2 continue to be far too overtuned.
We can’t have an honest conversation about fun in this game if the balance is going to continue being insanely tilted between matches, and we can’t have sweeping balance changes because they oftentimes catch strays AND aren’t enough (See the gen regression nerf, or the anti-tunnel buffs: these changes disproportionately affect lower and mid tier killers to an unhealthy degree, and competent Nurses and Blights still run %99.9 of people over in lobbies.
I’ve suggested that maybe some steps could be made to change the meta loadouts significantly through drastic means: maybe making each Killer loadout have 5 perks, with one of the perk slots being a dedicated gen slot. That way, each generator perk could be designed to be strong on its own, while mitigating stacking them and allowing the devs to see balance more clearly and do basekit changes. But in truth, this approach wouldn’t help much so long as we still have insane things in this game (Nurse, specific item combos and stacking, unhealthy perk design), and on top of that we won’t see any shortage of tunneling, camping, gen slamming, or other unfun mechanics until enough positive and negative reinforcement exists to actually change how people play. Right now, the meta favors focusing on winning above all else and using the best tactics, and the best tactics are the most unfun.
At its core DBD is a very unbalanced game at its core it literally feels like I’m playing an unfinished game especially with the new gen bug that BHVR refuses to patch…but overall I just go for 2k’s at this point because getting a 4k is like asking for 20mil$. 4k would be a miracle and the majority of maps on DBD are very survivor side maps, idc what anyone says map design on this game is just god awful especially when playing killer. pallets literally spawns right next to each other
I liked True's idea of there being an agony meter that the Killer needs to fill instead of kills. It fits with the lore, the entity feeds of suffering and letting the survivor just die in the first 5 minutes of the match doesn't make sense. Survivors objectives may need to be compensated for this. There might still be tunnelling but at least the survivor wouldn't be ejected from the match at 5 gens and they won't be able to leave either unless they dc.
The problem isn't really the fact that SBMM has a set goal, it's how half-assed it was implemented. There are no separate queues for solo or groups, no casual queue, and a soft cap that is easily reachable. Whether you're more competitive or more casual, it doesn't matter, the current system isn't good for anyone.
I feel us * people who only play couple hours a day never seek to have this extreme mental anguish when it comes to dbd

As survivor ( I never solo que, it’s either SWF or killer for me) I am a lot less sweaty but I’m still on edge bc I still get scared. Especially when against myers or ghost face 😱
Looping is hard but so satisfying when I last longer than a minute(that’s what she said). I don’t mind being a gen jockey I think skill checks are fun especially when a crazed maniac is chasing my friends around teehee 🤭

Constant tribalism, extreme toxicity and complete lack of empathy on general in this game has fucked it beyond belief.
I feel like I really agree with this video. I would like to see more the game more healthy. But where do you even start? I can for sure agree a wellness patch would do wonders for the game
I think they just need to shift the "win condition" for survivor to total survivors escaped, rather than individually escaping. I already feel good about being the lone sacrifice with a 3 man out, but I imagine the average player doesn't, and the game doesn't really facilitate it either. I think it would be a really healthy shift for the game just for a starting point.

doing it in the normal game is one thing, doing it in things like lights out and chaos shuffle is beyond degenrate
sure you are allowed to do so but its just forcing the meta-slave cycle all over again
if the devs were smart (they arent) they would have removed the pip system and not added SBMM
Gens speed is unhealthy… Killers shouldn't bring 4 gens perks because survivors know how to press one button .
I had a confusing experience about a week ago. Two friends and I were in a match with a Legion who ended up being a streamer. After my friends died, (The rando and I ended up getting out.) they visited the stream and the killer was saying that he just wanted to be nice, but then changed because we were toxic and "so mean." We didn't bring flashlights, flashbang or blast mine, and we didn't sabo hooks, block hooks or teabag. The only thing I did was smack the killer with a pallet during a chase, but if that's considered toxic I'm just going to laugh. Everybody has a different perception of what toxic means and it leaves me scratching my head.

Kills definitely matter more. That's why the Antagonists are called "KILLERS" and not "HOOKERS". The game is called dead by daylight not hooked by daylight. You can literally get all the survivors on death hook and then all 4 survivors escape and nothing to show for it. meanwhile the survivors will be toxic af post game chat about the killer being a a baby or whatever.
I main killer and survivors taught me to just 4k by any means. Don't care if I have to tunnel or slug. Survivor's Rulebook For Killers means nothing to me. In this game, outside of cheats and exploits, the ends justify the means. I'd love to 12 hook but most times that's just not an option with the survivors I play against.
I feel it's especially unhealthy when I play killer. It's just so brutal and infuriating playing killer. Always has been.

dbd is in such a bad state that the games not even worth playing imo, like eveytime i play survivor its just the most obnoxious shit possible, and playing killer is just boring because its too easy(untill u hit the rare swf comps) ita gotten to the point where i nolonger play becuse thered no enjoyment to even be had, and i told my frienda about the issues i view and they slowly came to an agreement and find the game unbearable too and are quitting it
I agree- I stopped playing DBD a month ago after putting 3k hours in to it bc it stopped being fun. I’ve played Tomb Raider games since I was a kid and when I heard Lara came to DBD all it did was make me replay her games instead- this will be the first chapter I don’t buy, and I’m not sure I plan on returning, though I’ll be replaying Castlevania soon too.

It you can flex with it ppl will. no matter how unbalanced dbd is ppl will flex.
the game is never likely gonna be balanced. cause you would have to balance it off the sweatiest 4man and the tryhard killers.
But that would likely make it unplayable for average players.
Unless you are a high level survivor or a SWF, I don't see how the game isn't clearly killer sided. Their faster. They have a huge lunge. They have a huge sweeping attack. Killers like the Unknown and Clown have an AOE attack that's massive. Most of the pallets suck. Most of the tiles are useless. The game forces survivors to slow vault A LOT. The generators automatically explode when you let go. Healing automatically makes you fail a skill check constantly. They can hear footsteps, grunts, and breathing, and even the grass rustling. The survivors leave pools of blood, kick up dust, and alert crows. A lot of killers are completely silent, undetectable, and can one hit down you. A lot of killers can instantly teleport or run across the map fast/instantly/silently. The survivors have to do generators and save teammates from hooks making them easy to find. There's tons of meaningless crap in the way that you can constantly get stuck on. Hooking someone creates a big bubble making aura perks like kindred much less effective. The terror radius, chase music, and sound Q's are all extremely inconsistent. (And this is before perks, add-ons, camping, and tunneling are even taken into consideration)
In the end, this game really is just a more elaborate version of shooting fish in a barrel.
The only real counter is too rush gens. That's it.
I win every time a killer swings at my mirrored illusion or follow red herring/PEBBLE. I win when I hit a spicy tail shot as xeno, or get the drop on a survivor and yoink them off a gen.
I know a lot of survivors are going full gen rush as a response to the egregious tunneling problems as of late. This all really started becoming as bad as it is since the anniversary event with the nerfs to pop and pain resonance. Bhvr never gave any clear alternatives to gen regression when they nerfed those perks and now, ironically, it has made the game far more difficult because everyone is playing like a cunt on both sides.
The old emblem system was legitimately better matchmaking, (apart from the odd time you’d be rank 1 survivor for example and have a rank 15 on your team) or (you’re a rank 12 killer going up against rank 1-4 survivors)
Was it perfect? No. But I’m convinced it was better than what we currently have. Especially since the game didn’t count wins through how many kills/escapes you get.
First of fall: the two gen bug once somebody is dead has made recent days even more insufrible due to how it can change the outcome of already win scenarios less sweaty killers worked for.
I believe one thing that keeps Dbd MMR falling apart is how some perks on both sides haven't been tweak enought towards core mechanics to bring variety to the table.
Second oportunities and slowdon tend to be appealing for lamest reasons, because instead of being an option that can give you little advantages based on your strategys, both feel as a requirement to have funticional matches.
Killers need a real core way to slow gens, and the perks related to it should be nerfed or controled in a way they not stack with this hipotetic mechanic.
Survivor really need to be able to see other teammates equipment and also somen QoL changes on HUD feed back.
I am a killer main, and i am a simple guy, if i have fun during the match, whether it is technically a win or a loss it doesn't matter as i still had fun so i win. I am also a meme build type person who likes to do goofy stuff so if i can accomplish them random challenges i put on myself it is also a win. I'd rather have fun losing than i would being miserable winning.
This is why as a killer i usually try to get 1 or two kills or say like ~7 hooks and then i usually just let the rest of the survivors leave. Sometimes i straight up act friendly but usually i just chase them in a worse way and run away when they go down etc. I like feeling like ive played my killer well enough to get kills and i like the thought that my survivors had a good time duking me and getting out just in time. I like to try to make it cinematic for them before they leave. They get the feeling of outplaying the killer, i get practise downing them and some points from a kill, everyone has a good time and my MMR stays really low so i never really see toxic stuff or full stacks of griefers. I know ill never become a really good player but honestly id rather just have a good time and know im terrible at the game than get good and be frsutrated constantly.
i find it weird that there has to be an ultimatum. why can't hooks help with mmr but getting a kill helps slightly more? why can't getting gen progress, healing others or running the killer give mmr but then escaping helps slightly more? i don't see why only specific things should boost your mmr
Personally I think adding coms would make the game a lot more skill based. Because instead of having your own play it would be more team based on the survivor side and you could execute your plays and then killer side would be about stopping those plays. That’s what most fun perks are based around anyway imo. As a survivor I hated knock out but the only apeal I find from slug videos or agitation build videos is seeing the survivor plays get foiled. Even though I’m a survivor main and know their pain. But most of the time it’s just in fun to go against those builds because I can’t even communicate to my teamates in the first place so I can’t even execute a play, and when the play my teamates try to execute through their intuitive game sense good timing and experience gets foiled because of a perk it feels like we have been robbed because it’s basically up to luck if those expressions of skill pay off and it’s just thrown away because the killer can counter it. And now we are left with nothing. But if I could ask my teammate to sabo for me or to get ready for a save as I prepare to agro killer, or if I could tell my team to let me go, I have deliverance so me getting the save is better, or to let me cleanse the hex I have a boon that can help us.
I feel like the balance of the game would get better if you could execute plays and bridge the gap.
I play other team based games like val and my teamates do not know all the things I do about the game but as my teamates they still have power and the ability to contribute. If I ask my teams smoke player to smoke off a specific spot that I communicate to them with THE PING SYSTEM and tell them to watch an area with CALL OUTS then we can make some magic work with my basically new teamates and my veteran experience but in dbd of if I have a baby survivor on my team they get killed and tunneled out in the early game and now the entire team is fucked because I couldn’t tell them how to avoid the killer or to come for a heal. Swf vs solo q is night and day. It should not be this way. Swf vs killer depending on the killer build is just unfair. Killers don’t have fun most times. Survivor with no coms is just not fun, especially against the technical killers that basically NEED coordination to counter properly.
Before the devs balance any more they need to add coms so the playing filled is equal across all configs of the game and then when they balance the killer and survivor side it’s basically accounting for swfs and solo que. The game will be much healthier this way
