i'll put it simply. it USED to be fun when the game was fresh, unique and nobody had a clue what to do or how to play. This lasted around 1-2 post launch with meta being there as an distant idea that was yet to fully form. Majority of players urbanevasioned their way around the map, bush to bush in T3 clothing and flashlights were a show of skill back then, as it was yet again…new. The game grew in popularity big time after them initial two years and these rose tinted glasses everyone looks at the game with is nothing more than memories of a brand new game with friends enjoying themselves. Has Dbd aged well?………Not the best but it hangs in there, the foundation is there (not talking about the code) what they do with it remains to be seen but we'll never get these mystical feelings back, move on, make new memories in new games and understand Dbd is ageing, its got two choices, evolve (new engine such as UE5) or plow along with gamemodes and buy it more time on lifesupport for another few years. It's sadly how time works, i wish i could go back to my AvP days and have the same emotions i did back then, but I can't. Its a natural part of a games life cycle. The only thing that never changed with Dbd is its formula. It did not innovate at the right time (resi release at peak player levels would've been perfect) and is now playing catch-up.
So basically you hit a point you have to pick better perks and play a bit sweaty to win which feeds into a unending cycle that everyone has to play increasingly sweaty to continue win.
So its feel bad getting stomped trying to play the way you like or sweat and feel stressed from it. Sounds like a lose/lose to me. Honestly sounds like behavior needs to figure out some alternative gamemodes or people just gonna burn out.
Totally agree. When Dredge came out, playing it was super fun – you could wait in lockers, you could try to cut people off mid-chase. Now that everyone knows about Dredge it's 3 gen perks and off you go. When I win against strong teams, I win because I used my power efficiently and not in a cool or crazy way.
Honestly when a game stops being "fun," I stop playing the game. Wild concept for DBD players, I know.
Any game that has a console audience nowadays seems to decry SBMM because they claim it's 'unfun.' The "lobbies are too similar" or whatever for players who are truly good, and then there's the camp that just wants to crush new players to feel good; They're the same camp, one is just in denial.
It's especially bad when that take comes from a content creator. Content creators for a game have an vested interest in having less sweaty lobbies for content reasons. If you can slap on your stream that you have a '200 game Oni streak in top MMR,' that's viewers. If you can slap on your stream that you've gotten a 'nuke a day' or whatever in Call of Duty Warzone, that's viewers. It's well known that there are two ways to get viewers for streamers: Make good content elsewhere or be a God Gamer. It's easier to put up the facade of a god gamer if there's little to no MMR.
Frankly I'm glad to see a different take here. Game's are sweatier? Play sweatier. Don't want to? Don't. True for every game. The MMR will put you in lobbies that are fair eventually.
Dead by daylight 2 everybody let's go , Time to make a new game let's go
Beating a dead horse , Let's just make Dead by daylight 2 , Unless you guys love buying useless cosmetics Go for it, waste your money Behavior loves it
Hot take, Dbd use to be more fun, with the older graphics, the game looked alot more spookier back then in the past compared today, thus is one reason why i kinda liked lightout mode, as dbd releases more maps they just arnt spooky or give that horror feeling anymore
You have limited infrastructure and information but you think you know too much, das a big problem
You're 100% correct. I am in an entirely different situation where I'm having trouble finding the game fun. I am able to derive fun from losing. If I face a survivor who is capable of running me for multiple generators, I get excited, because it means I've run into someone who tests my abilities. It becomes an opportunity to improve instead of just win.
The problem for me is that I like this game a whole lot, and I don't want it to die. But a lot of my favorite killers to play like Pinhead, Alien, and Chucky are loathed by survivors. So I bend over backwards trying to make sure the survivors have fun and it stresses me out. I don't want to be the reason someone turns the game off, yet me just normally playing the game can be enough to make someone want to quit.
What most people mean by "fun" is "easy". The game used to have way more busted shit for both sides, and now that it's slowly becoming more balanced, people don't want to admit that they aren't as good as they think they are. Don't get me wrong, there's still really strong perks, items, and broken maps, but it's significantly better than it's been in the past. BHVR has been doing a decent job so far. The most recent statistics they released pretty much confirmed this.
It's fine to not be great at a video game, it's fine to lose. Play however you want. Maybe recognize survivor is a teamwork role and if not everyone is performing well, then the killer is going to win, that's just the nature of being on a team; you can't 1v1 steamroll them.
Really? Cause i remember when survivors used to run 4 perks every game, and killers almost the same.
I'd agree with this in general, but I'd add two little caveats. I recently rewatched some of my first games after switching to PC (so, 0 MMR with a fully clean slate) and most survivors in my games were actually running decent perks, and I know this continued since I've tracked most of my games since they became more interesting. The issue at that level isn't really perks or even chase, it's that gen efficiency is incredibly low and general macro sense is horrible. Like in your first hundred hours sometimes it'll feel like you have to beg the death hook gamer to leave and get healed instead of doing a gen inside your deadzone, lol. Killer perks were a lot more variable in my games, but I think that's just the nature of the BP model.
The second caveat is just related to age. If you started playing in 2016-2018 – the game was just different. There was barely a sustainable meta, the emblem and matchmaking were busted. It was not the same game it is today, I don't know how to even say it. That did change sometime in 2018-2019 though, so I'd be surprised by people who missed it and used that to disparage the modern game.
Sounds like everyone is taking this game too seriously tbh
I feel like it became less fun when mmr was introduced. Bc now both sides are just trying to win at all costs, its not goofy like it used to be and i miss that
Game stopped being fun around 2020 for me. Before that I could lose and still have fun. Now it's all the same perks ran by the same people on the same killers. There's no creativity anymore with builds because people ONLY want to win like it's a fucking tournament. It's sad and pathetic.
i still have fun playin dbd tbh and run whatever as surviv idrc abt loosing more so abt jus having fun
I consider myself lucky because I went through this cycle with a fairly low amount of hours. I hit my peak of pushover survivors around 300 hours, got through running more and more meta perks around 500 hours, and by around 650 hours I settled into a bracket I enjoy, with 1 or 2 slowdown and a pretty good win rate. I know some people take a lot longer to go through all the stages.
The more you play, the more you notice the things that bother you and the harder it is to ignore them.
1:56 dbd is only 'solved' for the top maybe 10% of players, no matter where you go you will find literal tides of people complaining about this/that coming from an ocean of entitlement
if you want to see a spinoff of dbd whose playerbase legitimately has solved the game to where the majority understand how to play it + has actual tournaments, check out identity v
Still fun…otherwise you wouldn't keep making videos about it
I see this rhetoric all the time, that Dead by Daylight isn't fun. I couldn't disagree more. Granted, I've only been playing for a few years now, I'm around 780hrs of game play. I still feel like I've just scratched the surface. I think people don't really understand what this game is or COULD be. There is so much lore, character insights, and interesting perks that lead to all kinds of combinations to make gameplay unique for both sides. I think players run the same build over and over and it becomes a mindless, stale, and passive experience. If players don't use the same build or strategy every match, I think it would bring the variety the community is looking for. 🙂
I think you hit the nail on the head.
New Matchmaking system?
That’s not why people say it old DBD was more ”fun”. They are saying it was more ”fun” because without MMR, killers would actually have enough time to do something and not being forced to use the same type of perks (slowdown) and keep using the same type of killers every match to keep up with survivors. Tbh the MMR system is so broken and non functional that i don’t know why BHVR even has it in the first place. When it first came out it was extremely accurate but the queue times was so long so they tweaked it and now the matchmaking has prioritizes queue times over fairness. It’s just a mess of a system especially with different timezones and the BP Incentives making killers going against 200 hours survivors and vice versa
Me who still runs bond+leader at 2kh: DON T TOUCH MY GARBAGE hisss
"you didn't had fun because you were good but because the other were bad and confused" yes, that's the point, i want to find idiots and good players, not only comp swf every second, mmr ruined the game, if you think i'm a bad person because i want to destroy noobs… well, i don't care, thank god i can lose on purpose to get lower mmr and actually have some fun, that's why i prefer single player games, there i actually get good, here you can't get good because is a fucking 1v4 were gens flying and windows and pallets are everywherem i miss when the game was casual so much, what a shit show
I disagree with your video, there were a lot of changes that took away a lot of fun opportunities. These changes caused these “sweaty” matches and killed the casual player base. A lot of the perk changes just based of pick rate and me feeling like if I pay for something, is it going to stay good. These changes have for sure made me more reluctant to buy any content. But in my opinion the game is hot trash at best lately. I mean let’s talk about the failed things like SBMM, anti camp, and the 3 gen solution. A lot of the changes have been gearing towards making this a competitive game. Competitive DBD isn’t fun dude, I’m sorry.
