  1. Howdy! My boyfriend is a long-time watcher, and he put this on the TV today. You just mentioned you can't eat gluten. So here's a recipe for gluten-free scones! They don't require much in the way of special equipment, and taste like normal scones. Before you start, please note you'll need:
    1) Parchment paper
    2) Cookie sheets (pizza pans should work)
    3) Gluten-free flour (I use King Arthur brand, because it's cheap on Amazon)
    4) A kitchen scale (you can probably use a cup, but GF baking is finicky)
    5) A cheese grater
    6) Some other ingredients

    Ingredients are:
    280g or 2 cups of gluten-free flour
1 tablespoon baking power (NOT baking soda)
    1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons granulated sugar (plus a bit more for sprinkling)
    5 tablespoons unsalted butter
170g or 6 ounces of frozen blueberries or chocolate chips (your choice)
1 cup of milk, then a bit more to get the dough right, and a bit more for brushing (optional, but recommended)

Before you start, stick the cheese grater in the fridge for at least fifteen minutes. (You can do it for days, I don't care, just fifteen minimum.)

Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F, and line two small or one large baking sheet with parchment paper.

Put the flour, baking powder, salt, and sugar in a bowl. Use a wire whisk to combine them. (You don't need to beat them, just make sure everything is dispersed well.)

Grate the butter into the dry ingredients, and mix again. You can use the whisk for this. Try to keep the pieces of butter separate and coated in dry stuff.

Add the milk to the dry ingredients and stir until combined, probably using a wooden spoon this time. The dough will likely be just a bit crumbly. If so, splash in JUST A FEW DROPS of milk and stir it again. Once the dough just barely no longer comes apart, you have your dough.

Split the dough in half, and flatten each half into a circle. The "pie" should be just a little thicker than the chocolate chips or blueberries. (While you're flattening it, you should kind of feel the chips or berries poking at you.)

Cut each pie into six wedges. Place them on the parchment-paper-covered baking sheet with a little room in between them. You should JUST be able to fit them on a normal-sized baking sheet, but I do recommend two smaller ones.

Brush each scone with milk, and sprinkle with sugar. Feel free to use a small amount of sugar for scones that would go with coffee, or larger amounts for those you will eat on their own.

Bake for 15 to 20 minutes at 400 deg F. They should be starting to brown on the edges.

Not really a Halloween-themed treat, but look, I'm just learning how to do this, okay?

    Cheers!
