Red Hook was kind enough to do a live session to explain the recent big news with Behaviour Interactive.

I was there
I’m very glad to hear that the main directors of red hook are staying with the company. I believe the main issue many people have with the acquisition is the (slightly) questionable history of behaviour interactive as a whole, and that the games goals would be altered enough to make the original face of darkest dungeon and red hook as a whole disappear. I am so happy to hear that leadership of the red hook games will not change. It makes me feel secure that red hook games will keep their identity and goals.
I cant wait to see pronouns and sexual proclivity come into the games 🙄 congratulations on them getting funding for their games tho, that's really nice
Red Hook got the slime mold pet + Assay Gear for more looted relics they are swimming in money :3
I'm really happy they have more funding to work on DD2 and later down the line more projects, I hate how reddit got all mad and distressed over something like this, and not saying that they didn't have their reasons but I think it's safe to say they ALWAYS tend to doom post xd
The fear isnt coming because of anything that Red Hook has or hasnt done. The fear is coming from how Behavior Interactive have treated their own game, Dead By Daylight. They do not have the best track record of the development of that game. In fact, their track record is horrible. Dead By Daylight has A LOT of problems and understandably people are jumping to the conclusion that Behavior will have some kind of creative direction over what happens with the Darkest Dungeon franchise, which, for people familiar with Behavior, could be catastrophic news.
Glad the guys from Red Hook care enough to take time to do these Q&As. Them staying around is huge. Thanks for posting
can you somehow enable subtitles for it?
This is kind of tangential to the topic, but I hope this also allows for more marketing or advertisement for the dlc or any new games. I think I only ever heard about the games or new content from streamers or from the blog posts/updates posted to steam and I really want just more people to hear about it and give these games a try.
This is all comforting to hear, I'm still apprehensive but much more hopeful.
I really do hope things go well and I’m not worried that redhook will have any issues, I think myself and most others are simply worried about Behavior themselves having a terrible tract record and being disliked even by their own community and how that would effect redhook
I love what Chris said about “nothing comes in to Darkest Dungeon”. It reminds me of this video essay I saw on how Lord of the Rings films were so good because they had a crazy premise that most producers would’ve wanted to make ironic and to make fun of itself, but they delivered it seriously and genuinely and they believed in their work and it shined because of it. I feel like Darkest Dungeon is great for a similar reason. It’s edgy and dark and emo but it takes itself completely seriously and lets you get immersed in that over the ridiculous setting and learn to love it.
Pog
I'm more or less just worried in time they'd try to pivot the direction away from their vision for the title, but y'know that's an "if" other then that completely understand the angle they're coming from
Has there ever even once been an occasion where a larger studio absorbed a smaller one and the results didn't suffer because of it?
if they give them funding and let them do their thing then maybe this isnt a bad thing
While it would be assuring with most of the answers they have given and the fact they only sold their company, not the IP, this is still BHVR we are talking about
BHVR is very untrustworthy, incapable of even handling their own game and in general, they're greatly incompetent, this is not even mentioning the bias they have towards their own game of a particular side. Not to mention the recent layoffs and past game failures and recent shutdowns of other groups they've acquired before, especially with the most recent one.
As someone who has played their game since 2018 and seen just how incompetent they're and contiune to be, growing even more incompetent over the years and certain responses they've made to their own community when it came to criticism of them and their only living game
BHVR is not to be trusted, whatsoever.
Hey bro, cool video!
They always stay with the company, a little while. That's part of the deal. Otherwise, the acquisition they made loses its value. Eventually, there's nobody left.
“Step into the Darkest Dungeon … or you’ll be Dead by Daylight” – Paracelsus speaking to Meg in the DD2 x DbD crossover trailer
If you guys needed money, you should've just hired the Antiquarian! Instead, you made her a villain!
I would play that tank game instantly
I got horrific flashbacks the second he brought up hockey.
Remember what happened the last time a hockey reference was made by a dbd employee?
Damage control. Within 2 years fans will be calling for heads. Acquisitions have NEVER worked out for fans in this industry.
Farewell Red Hook, you will be missed. Thanks for giving us 2 good games. Hopefully your bosses won’t retroactively fuck them up now.
Appreciate you posting the video here Shuffle. I got faith the Red Hood folks will do what they gotta do.
People overreacting about Behaviour? What else is new?
It wouldn't even surprise me if most of the doomposters never played a DD game and just wanted to talk shit about BHVR.
The hate isn't completely unwarrented but it's so overexagurated it's not even funny
I don't get what would be the reason of the acquisition from Behavior's standpoint. The 2 dozen people or so who are the "workforce" of Red Hook is not a considerable size to justify this. The only single thing that would make sense from their standpoint is getting the DD IP. This seems all too similar to what happened in the ZA/UM situation, where Kurvitz also claimed ownership of the IP on almost the exact same grounds but still lost it. DD2 probably barely broke even so it's not like Behavior would make money here. If Chris and Tyler are truthful and honest, they are naive. If they are dishonest, they are just shady.
Thanks Shuf. I’ve been putting my trust into RH for 10 years now. They haven’t lead me astray yet.
I’m sure they have a good idea on what’s best
I just hope BHVR has very little to no input into anything to do with this game or the IP in general and will actually listen to their input. Which they are not very fond of doing.
Not so sure why you kept saying that they didn’t sell the IP. Red Hook owns the darkest dungeon ip. Behaviour bought Red Hook. Chris and Tyler no longer own the IP. They’re just still making decisions for it. Doesn’t mean that will not or can not change.
