I still think map balance is a big issue, I think there are more terrible maps than good ones. Like why do people like dead dog? Main building is absolutely busted, and you could 3 gen easily
Any reason you never explored Armored Core on the channel? Half expected the channel to switch to that like you did Elden Ring for a bit.
I think that despite the recent changes where older characters were made cheaper (which was an awesome change that I was super happy to see) I still think the new player experience is by far the thing this game needs to work on most, and is something I hope you will talk about because I think it's something that doesn't get enough attention. I'll detail my thoughts here as well but overall I think it would be a great thing to discuss.
Other popular games (or at least the ones I play) are LEAGUES better than DBD in this regard. For example, in Valorant, which is also a game where you start off with only a few characters, when you first make a new account, you get two "free agent unlocks" that you can use to get ANY agent in the game completely for free, just by playing a few games. And then when you do get that agent, their abilities aren't locked behind a grind, you get the full agent and can use them to their full potential. AND the game itself is free on top of that!
Compare this to DBD, where the game itself is $20, you start off with limited characters, and even when you save up enough shards or decide to shell out the money to buy a character, you start with that character at P0 Level 1 and have to spend hours upon hours grinding them up for perks. If you want to play a specific character with a specific set of perks, depending on which character and which perks, you might need to spend some money for licensed characters, or even non-licensed DLC. And either way you still have to grind for hours upon hours upon hours to get enough bloodpoints to prestige NOT the character you actually want to play, but the character(s) who's perks you want, and THEN you can finally play how you want to play. I think it's pretty easy to see why this would be off-putting to someone who is new and not very invested in the game.
That's all also not considering the not-so-great tutorial and the fact that this game has a super steep learning curve as-is. So many perks, maps, killers, tiles, interactions, etc etc that can all very easily confuse someone who's new to the game. I feel like it came up in discussions when MFT was released, but the "base kit" of this game is so impossible to learn now because there's so many things that change the way interactions happen. I wish people would still talk about that more. I have so many friends I want to play the game with that are impossible to convince to play it with me because they don't want to spend money on the game and then have to grind a bunch as well (or spend even more), and then even after that they have to learn a bunch of random stuff that they don't understand, all just to get started and be a "decent" player.
As for solutions so that I'm not just needlessly ranting, I think for one, this game needs a complete overhaul on the tutorial. The game has changed so much since it was released and yet the tutorial is almost identical. New basekit changes like basekit BT haven't had sections for those things added to the tutorial. It would be great if new players could unlock a limited number of (non-licensed) things for free.I also think the prestige system should be tied to cosmetic things only. The grind has gotten better but one thing we were all asking for forever was for perk tiers to be removed and I still think that should be the case. I don't even think any of that would eat into BHVR's bottom line as it would build investment in the game out of new players and of course more players = more money. They can lean into monetizing other, non-gameplay parts of the game if they're concerned. People have been screaming for custom moris, banners and other profile "cosmetics" have been added to the game already, and there's so much more creative room to grow in this part of the game.
Love you Scott and see what you’re saying as to there not being that many flaws in a fair match of DBD. However my main beef with this game as a 10k+ hr solo surv main is that the game is almost never balanced. Sure a strong team vs a decent killer is still the best fun I can have in a game, but most games are not like this. Most games are a strong killer using a strong build combined with proxy camping and tunnelling and a team with at LEAST 1-2 weak players that either directly cause a loss through hook dives, bad running, etc or just quitting in one form or other. THIS is the main problem with DBD. They still have very bad matchmaking and can’t resolve balancing the game to strong SWFs vs horribly match made solo games which are far more common. The medkit nerf was overdone. I am dying and losing EVEN MORE now because I tend to be injured MUCH longer in games, because of slower heals AND having no way to heal after burning my 1 or 2 heals. I still get very aggravated at this game when most of the time it’s quickly clear at a 4 hook to 1 gen ratio and weak teammates we’ve lost and have to go through the motions since quitting is penalized. Killer role is so strong you have streamers creating ridiculous challenges for themselves to make the game, well, challenging. Meanwhile it’s a common occurrence to have a team of all P50+ solos get 4kd by a stacked P5 or lower. So yeah… this game still has extremely serious problems when the base of solo players still mostly have unfair experiences and BHVR now seems to use Blight as the bar for new killers. Nowadays we have to go against combos of ridic mobility + 1 hit + stealth + proxy camp + tunnel + bad matchmaking/teammates + bad self healing… sorry… MOST games are still bad and I only play for the 20% of the time I get a really fun one.
Theres plenty of shit to talk about in dbd. For one, I'd talk about some things that are very specific and that a lot of people don't talk about.
Topic 1: (Killer Adjustments)
Ill just name off a few of the killers that I have a bit of a niche opinion about. For doctor, personally I'd just remove the over syncronization of his insanity ability and Merciless Storm. There's no reason you should be able to guarantee that gens never get done with Overcharge, COB, Merciless Storm and Distressing with the ridiculous back and forth skillchecks for 10 whole seconds that even veteran players have a hard time with. Just make it to where Merciless Storm behaves normally without the effects of Insanity because it's just unhealthy.
For Nemisis, I think a way to make him more interesting is to make Noninfected Survivors release a pheromone that attracts zombies, so that at the start of the match the zombies will be attracted to them and they'll be more likely to get infected, and then they'll be less attracted to them by a certain meter amount if they are infected. I think it also makes more sense canonnically because the zombie virus has a desire to spread to new hosts. It would also serve as a trade off and give both sides options, zombie attraction vs a loss of a health state during chase. At the end of the/middle match you should be tiered up anyways so I think this would be kind of cool.
Tbh, I really feel like the Dredge's Darkness should be nerfed by like 15-25%. It's So hard to see anything on maps that already run very dark, and if you add a Boon on top of it, it becomes even more disorienting to an unhealthy level in my opinion. That and it drives me absolutely up the wall on Midwich. I wanna rip my eyeballs out and stick them on my screen, like holy shit.
Wesker I really feel like does have a weird hit box. To double up on that, just fix hit boxes entirely. I can't tell you how many times I've collisiond with a pimple on a wall bc of bad map design, even as a survivor and it bothers the heck out of me. I'd get slammed by Wesker into literally nothing, or he'd grab me by my heel hairs somehow. It NEEDS fixed.
For Knight I feel like the guards are still buggy as hell. They will see you in places where I personally feel like they shouldn't. I guess just fix the Ai maybe.
For singularity, I feel like the EMP's should disable the pod entirely. The killer shouldn't be able to see through them while they're disabled, it just dosen't make any sense. Balance it out by giving him more pods or something.
I've thought this for a while, but Zenomorph needs a noticeable signifier before a tail strike. Every killer that has a long range has one, Death slinger, Huntress, Nurse, ect. You'll either hear a noise indicator or you will see before it happens a second later. You get no sound or visual indicator when a Zenomorph is about to use their Tail, and I feel like there should be one and a very small charge up as well.
Topic 2: Unintended features
Just to name a few; 360's, Oni/Blight wall sliding techs, window techs, crouch techs (especially at shack against a Blight), infinite "Head On" locker bully squads on the Stranger Things map, how iron grasp alone ironically counters an entire boil over build (seriously 1 perk shouldn't fully counter an entire build like that, like how?), anti heal builds with coulrophobia that make snowballing inevitable in solo-que. (There's a lot to talk about)
Topic 3: DBD Pet Peeves
One of my pet peeves is Ironically about healing survivors. When an AI survivor crouches at you, you literally can't heal them. The prompt goes away every time they crouch, and if you time it wrong and you can't heal them, they just leave. You also get this entirely annoying healing delay whenever you try to heal someone off of hook, idk if it's just a console issue but it feels like you have to wait a full 1.5 seconds for the prompt to show up just to heal someone.
Another peeve is after mending a survivor who is injured it kicks you off of them, and then you have to proceed into the actual healing separately. I feel like you should just be able to keep on healing it through, but maybe that's just me.
Not many people talk about this but there's a bug that randomly kicks you off of your teammate while your healing them. Idk if it's still an active bug but if it is, that means I still have a problem with it.
Topic 4: "Useless Perk" Changes
I find that a lot of the time when I'm trying to use Distortion, its always rather underwhelming. Even if your aura is not revealed, a lot of the times you will spawn in a game with other survivors around you, and unless they have distortion too, they will also be seen. And if those teammates are near you when they are seen, there's a high chance that your perk won't be useful because the killer would find you by using your teammates auras (And who's to say your teammate won't follow you?). The same thing happens with perks like "Nurses Calling", where my aura won't be read with "Distortion", but the survivor I'm healing will be seen, this making the perk entirely useless for altruistic healing actions, and will in turn deincentivize survivors from trying to pick someone else up if they have the perk. I think that this could possibly be resolved by giving "Distortion" a very small and forgiving radius of 3-5 meters, so that anyone who is within that radius will gain distortion benefits as long as you have tokens. It can be balanced out by having 1 extra token taken away for every survivor within your radius. If you only have 1 token, the token will be prioritized towards the owner of the perk.
Another thing I'd like to mention about "Nurses Calling" is that it continuously takes away tokens when within the radius until its completely used up all the "Distortion" tokens. I highly feel as though once "Distortion" activates, the longevity of that token should last until either the killer leaves and returns with the radius, or you stop healing the other person and start healing again.
Boil Over/Iron Grasp – I still beleive that "Boil Over" is highly underwhelming considering how many variables have to be in place for it to really be useful, wheras Iron grasp benefits with little to no requirements other than downing someone. There are many open maps that BO does not seem very useful in 60% of the time. It's strong against newer players and not great against veteran players who know how to maintain the wiggle effects, and understand hook spawns. I still feel as though this perk should 50/50 clash more with "Iron Grasp" because it dosen't live up to counter it on the same level, as "Iron Grasp" is constantly useful and constantly consistent. Even with a full build with synergistic perks like "Flip Flop" and "Unbreakable", "Iron Grasp" still counters it fully. I don't think that a perk should be insanely strong against inexperienced players and highly situational. Either way, IG and BO will still be on my list of needing adjustments without being severely underwhelming and too strong at the same time.
Ultimate Weapon – I think that a lot of people agree with "Ultimate Weapon" being way too strong. The cool down is extremely short, and makes finding survivors entirely too easy with its mobile AOE. This perk also works even if survivors are hiding in lockers. I think that the cool down should be longer and the AOE should only be located at the locker its been opened at, the AOE should not follow the killer as they move to their next destination for the entire 30 seconds of it being active. Much too unhealthy, and players are becoming highly reliant on it, and using perks/add-ons to increase their terror radius to enhance the already extremely good effects.
Made For This, We're Gonna Live Forever, Buckle Up – What all these perks have in common is the endurance status effect that they provide upon picking up a teammate. Out of all of these perks, only one of them works synergistically with "For The People", and that is "Buckle Up." (Ik, I thought they would work together too but they don't) I've felt a certain way about these perks for a while now, being that they should ALL work with FTP because their descriptions say so. On the other hand, I think that there are too many perks that seem much too similar in their effects to the point of redundancy. Perhaps some of them should be adjusted to differentiate them based on their requirements.
Topic 5: Questionable Nerfs/buffs.
Why did they nerf Pyramid Head's ass? Idk.
They also nerfed body blocking on hooks without telling anybody, but I noticed that fucking shit. Body blocking dosent feel as good anymore, and I'm pretty sure it's because they nerfed it and hoped nobody would notice. Was this on purpose? Dunno.
Am I the only one that feels like killer sliding into hooks is just as bad as when survivors were teleporting to the other side of pallets?… No?… Just me?… Okay…
Topic 6: Perk Ideas
This one is self explanatory.
Anyways, I just threw up on your page. You're welcome. 😂
Do dbd fanfiction reviews.
It is horrifying to watch Scott smack people through pallets 3 times in 3 minutes
OG first run of the day. I always liked it.
Want to talk about you want to talk about me want to talk about number one oh my me my
i know you havent been playing them for a while, but hearing you talk about how maybe the soulslike games pvp wise compare to each other would be really interesting. like ds2 to ds3, ds3 to elden ring. maybe the shortcomings of each and what they did well would be cool to hear about.
gotta bring back the weekly highlights ig
Stream armored core lol
Talk about how DBD is totally boring now. When are they going to do another sweep of multiple perks again? This game is so boring in this current meta.
Hot take: Stacking slowdowns is bad for the game.
Take more time to update QoL of and old characters rather than releasing a fucking bugged chapter every 3 months.
An in depth analysis of each perk in the game, how to use them optimally etc, there ya go 100+ videos, lol, honestly if it's not dbd… I'm unsure? I watched you from before dbd and just lurked for the longest time, (… shit I was a teen and I'm almost 30 now x.x) I played dbd but I stuck around just because it's you, shit I haven't even played elden ring yet and still watched your vids, my only actual suggestion and as basic as it is, just experiment, do what you like, see what sticks, branch out more and find new games to not just enjoy but fall in love with , discuss what you want and see what sticks, I understand views are important and although youtube money is shit I hope you find a good balance between enjoying what you do and viewer traffic <3
Personally I wouldn't mind new game reviews, there's heaps of them but having your dbd balance sense of mind gives me something to relate to if you go in depth
Happy new years Scott!
Does nurse need more nerfs or maybe a rework 🤔
ive always wondered how you made some of your custom chase themes, perhaps more music related content
I think as a community we need to come together and start increasing the toxicity so we have more content for videos
I don't know if you ever thought about it but maybe teach people on DBD. doesn't exactly have to be newbies but maybe host like discord lobbies with random people and try and show them thing they might be able to learn.
imo DBD has just gotten really really stale. there really isn't anything refreshing the main gameplay loops and the fact that there ISN'T any goofy chaos is hindering it. asym games shouldn't be polished. there can be balance sure, but there needs to be just goofy shit both sides can do. long gone are the days of stuff like space/sky billy or getting onto tiles you shouldn't be able to as demo. even perks like mad-grit have gotten a bit stale. they really need to add more just goofy perks or make new gamemodes or even whole new tiles for maps.
I want you to talk about whatever you're currently passionate about. It's all that really matters tbh
Could continue the killer idea series that was previously started. I enjoyed your take on everyone’s ideas. I remember posting a pretty interesting killer idea back when you posted that initial request video.
Please make compilations again
I would like to see more fake patch notes. I crave the pain it caused me
Some topics I would love for you to discuss:
1: How DBD falls short in modernizing the game (think stuff like graphics quality, keybinds, settings in general, netcode and input delays etc)
2: Showcasing / discussing different techs for killers and if they are a core nesessity of the killer or if they could perhaps be removed / patched (think hug-tech, locker techs, moonrushing etc etc)
3: Balance discussions on horrendous perks and how they could become viable by being their own nichè thing (for instance how Boil Over rework ended up, buckle up etc)
Talk about ffxiv, I liked finding out that you were into the game.
oh boy, just wait for ptb with changes mentioned on the dev's roadmap and than rewatch your own video xD
