BOON TOTEMS ARE A PROBLEM!!! | Dead By Daylight

In this video I go over both of the new survivor Mikaela Reid’s new perks Boon : Circle of Healing & Boon : Shadowstep and how it is going to change Dead by Daylight forever.
After testing these boon totems in the PTB 5.3.0, I decided to make this video to highlight how strong they really are and a few ways to maybe change them.

  1. I haven't actually played with or against boon totems, but I think they're pretty bad for the game right now. Nobody has to ever bring a different healing perk other than Boon: Circle of Healing, and it's the most powerful healing perk in the game. Boon: Shadowstep is gonna be really bad for a killer to play against especially when totems basically chain together. They're easily gonna be the top 2 meta perks in the game when they hit full release. I think they're gonna be especially strong against certain killers that may even make them REALLY hard to play. I don't think they're positive additions to DBD at this moment in time.

  2. The tug of war idea sounds good in theory but it still leaves a no risk option while against killers that dont run hex perks. That pretty much makes it the way it is now and we all know its pretty op as-is.

For killer breaking totems, thats an interesting idea that i think Otz talked about in his video on the first day of ptb. I think, as a killer, having the option to break the totem completely seems like a fair trade for getting rid of the boon and the possibility to rebless that totem but I think there are better alternatives.

Personally, I think each person should only be allowed to bless a totem once. Treat them like a hex in the sense that they are extremely powerful, but you only get 1 shot and if they are found, thats it. Survivors get the added benefit of choosing which totem to bless so trying to put it somewhere strategic becomes more of an active plan rather than "Oh, heres a random totem let me bless it" and also makes them decide whether to cleanse or bless.

  3. Boon totems just make the game more survivor sided….it adds an extra job for the killer ESPECIALLY when killing the survivors alone is rough enough…AND the survivors still gonna complain about everything when the entire game is catered to them

  4. It’s absolutely insane that boons can be re-blessed after what they did to Undying. It literally gives the side with FOUR PEOPLE potentially multiple iterations of Undying. Boon totems should at least have charges. No more than three, ideally 2. Force some strategy on the survivor. Like you said, it’s a no-brainer right now.

  5. When snuffing out a boom totem, the killer should destroy it and the boom perk deactivates.

Killers have ONE totem for perk, and it´s usually destroyed in the first 15 seconds of a match.
And when it´s gone, it´s gone.

Survivors using their totems over and over is nothing short of madness.

  6. I like the concept of introducing Boon Totems into the game as they give the much needed "second objective" to the survivors that we all have been wanting. Now, survivors have a real incentive to look for totems instead of just hoping straight to gens, which is fantastic.

That being said, I find really stupid that while killers use Hex perks for their "high risk, high reward" aspect, meaning that it gives you a pretty significant advantage at the cost of losing it at any point, Boon totems give survivors all the reward without any of the risk.

I like both of your approaches.

1.- If survivors are able to bring Boon totems back, there's no reason why killers shouldn't be able as well.
    or
2.- If killers are able to lose their perks permanently, there's no reason why survivors shouldn't be able as well.

  7. Imagine 4x Shadowstep on Racoon City, I am gonna camp someone so hard…
I don't think they should be able to use it again on same totem. I wouldn't really breake it, because that would kill perks like Noed / Plaything, but it might be possible to do that survivor needs to bless different totem after without breaking it.
By plaything we know it is possible to force only one specific survivor to work on any totem.

  8. 3 questions: 1) how does blessing a hex totem work with undying in the PTB? 2) If the devs took the tug of war approach how would it interact with undying? Example: a survivor blesses undying and breaks ruin, the killer snuffs the bless does undying come back or does ruin? 3) How would the tug of war work with token totems? Would you lose all your tokens? If the totem is blessed when you would gain a token, would you still gain the token?

Edit for a fourth question. 4) how does blessing a totem interact with thrill of the hunt? Does it notify the killer, if not should it? Does it slow the bless speed, if not, should it?

Sorry, one more. 5) does thanatophobia slow bless speeds, if not, should it?

Love your vids, keep up the great work

  9. i agree with the tug of war concept but if that were the case if a survivor does stubble upon a hex they are probably going to just break it and only bless dulls and still pop hex totems also I feel like shadow step is fine honestly it will be nice to have a viable BBQ/any aura perk counter for the 1st time in 5 years i feel like they should lower it from a 100% boost to healing to a 75% and self-care should stay in also a good plan self-care itself is basically throwing i mean nice to have a perk that u can heal in order to counter bad teammates

  10. But… If survivors right now (prior to update) cleanse all totems, you also won't get your Plaything or NOED. So… It is literally the same, only you don't think aboit it as much right now?
Moreover, it would take survivors a lot more time waste on totems if they were to bless them several times and also cleanse. I agree that effects of those two boons coming are a little much, but I don't see a problem in their existence overall.

As an example, me and my friends. We used to run Detective's at least on one person to make sure we got all totems before 5 gens are completed, so in the endgame there is no NOED. As our mmr increased and sbmm was introduced we realized that too much time is wasted on them, even if we do get NOED in the end. It's always better to just a) find NOED in the end b) leave the person who got downed with NOED and take our escapes. Recent matches were too close even without cleansing, and I even dread to think how fucked we would be if we still did totems.

So no, I really don't think they are that big of a deal as a concept. In real trial scenario – not ptb, not tests. Good killer would still do good if survivors waste precious time on totems.

  11. Ultimately, this is another variable that killers must worry about, and at certain mmr killers can't even afford to chase for more than 10-20 seconds. However, both ideas are good imo.

  12. As someone that plays killer and survivor, I think my problem with these Boons is that they put up a bubble in potential dead zones.
Changes brought into game aren’t supposed to change the fundamentals of this being a chase-centric and objective-centric game.

That said, there probably needs to be a one time placement of Boons as there are with Hexes.
They may be a highly localized and removable version of We’ll Make It or Distortion, but
the ability for Survivors to enter their no pallet, tree-tech safety bubble and be Big Mario again is a bit much.

Single-Use Perks are already in heavy rotation on both sides with Lethal Pursuer and DS.
Boon Totems could follow suit and still be viable. High Risk, High Reward.

  13. All these killer mains crying now, how is boon totems worse than removing noed from the game? what is your solution for op perks like noed. These are all hypothetical situations in a scenario were you play with friends, you should see my matches in solo q, i rarely escape one.

  14. My opinion is I don’t like boon totems at all, they just kill the immersion of a survivor being a prey by offering very generous safe zones for them. Totems should remain the killer’s belonging. Playing killer is already stressful enough, they should value more the stealth aspect of surviving rather than giving them magic powers.
