Hi bran
Hi Bran!
ive been playing since around mid 2018. one thing i would like to add is that player skill level and efficiency has changed a lot over time, which is out of BHVR's control. when i started playing, everything was all about looping all the time, its all anybody ever talked about. people wanted to go on cool chases and loop the killer, leading to a lot of aggressive survivors. over time survivors have learned that this doesnt win games, being efficient on generators and just making distance with the W key is more efficient. this also led to a change in killers behaviors, since now everyone is focusing a lot more on efficiency instead of hyper aggression. the chase is what people come for, a generator simulator is not fun. i think the only way to fix this issue really is to rework the generator system that we've had since 2016, change it up completely. how they would do this, i don't know, but i think having more chases is good for the game, encouraging survivors to avoid interaction with the killer is bad for the game.
I’ve never wanted dbd to be so balanced and since I’ve started playing it I’ve never had that mindset. Video games like dbd are meant to be fun but when you balance it there’s less fun things to experience. The days of just getting on for a nice casual chaotic match of dbd are gone and may it farewell and Rest In Peace because old dbd was something special that I don’t think will ever happen again. When you say veteran players want the game balanced idk who your referencing but it’s crazy to think people wanted dbd to be balanced so badly, and like you said they probably just hate the game.
I can’t speak for every veteran. But for myself the game is boring because I love chases and hooks and I tend to not camp and tunnel. But I also want to win matches as well and the fact MMR forces you to play sweaty if you want to win ruins the experience for me personally.
The DBD vets i know find the game boring because everyone has to play like super sweat lords every match. I have one friend who said if he wanted to play an e sports comp game, he'd play Valo, before he left DBD getting tired of everyone wanting to be a comp player. I also have a friend, one of my besties, who plays and streams DBD and they are litterally found and tunneled out of almost every match first. In their cases it's people's decisions to treat their matches like there's a $100 Red Lobster gift card on the line that's driving them out, or making them not want to play. Now, for the mentality you spoke of, I think a lot of those people spoke of "balance" meaning they want their side to have an easier time winning their objectives and not TRUE balance of the game…..and then some of the people who actually wanted balance were meaning like chase, the ability to dodge over window hits etc. I think everyone has their version of "Balance".
Now that it’s balanced the core gameplay isn’t that interesting. The balance is good now so maybe they should add more interesting things to the game. More events and shit. The problem is they add 6 new perks 4 times a year, throw the balance all off again, and then have to focus on rebalancing yet again. The most fun part of the game was always the chase but when gens fly in 2 seconds, it’s not as fun to get in long chases as a killer. They need to shake things up somehow and try not to fuck up the balance in the meantime.
Also probably depends what side they played on and how they played the game too
I think people are incredibly biased in favor of actions that favor them; so, when they complained about “balance” a lot of these veterans meant nerfing one side or the other. True balance means that neither side has those OP add-ons/items/perks, and when they finally realized that, they complained again. Humans are biased and hypocritical all the time. It’s no surprise that they don’t want to pick a lane.
Camping at 4 gens while complaining that others are bored of the game. Couldn't see how people could get bored of this kind of b***** behavior. Pathetic
I think people want more to do over doing a generator, (at least that's my take away from it.) which if people pay attention to the latest killers and soon to be Archives on the way, Bhvr knows and is experimenting with. Skull merchant? Mini game implementation with removing the devices, as small as that is its a feature that many enjoyed. The latest Ptb? Killer has a camera/minigame to shoot the survivors (R6 style hehe.) Archive/Rift? Going to introduce a perk randomiser for particular challenges. Also going to allow crazy ass actions for both survivor and killer to do during the anniversary. People REALLY need to be more observant and not expect Bhvr to randomly just go "Bam! New game mode!" they're doing tests for it right Infront of your eyes. Enjoy them or hate them, let the devs know so when a mode is released its well-researched and tested.
I'm someone that's always been at least neutral on how I feel with DBD, and I feel like I've noticed something. It sucks when things are obnoxiously overpowered on either side, but when they get nerfed, it feels bad in another way. Unfortunately, due to dead by daylights repetitive and simple gameplay loop, the less perks and add-ons and killers and items do in attempt to make the game more fair, it will inevitably become more monotonous. For an example, imagine if everyone for your next games just ran aura perks and nothing but. It would be perfectly balanced, there'd be nothing overpowered, but it feels like there's something missing. The game will be over in 8 minutes, every chase will last 20 seconds, there is no reason to do totems or any other side objective. I understand this is very hyperbolic but what I'm saying is if they are too strict with balance, yeah it's not terrible to play anymore but it just feels empty. I feel like dead by daylight DESPERATELY needs a general gameplay rework to enable more unique and interesting bot not insufferable in-game interactions.
this game is not a balance game, it’s either one side getting angry, always
Love you, BraBran, my dear brother.
I havnt been playing dbd for that long, but ive seen what over balancing has done to other games. Call of Duty for example, all the guns feel basically the same just with different skins. I dont mind them trying to balance things as long as theyre smart about it, and dont kill aspects of the game to do it. The game needs more not less.
I love how dbd is now, ive been playing on and off since the game came out and the past few months have been the most emjoyable. Because now when i get rolled by survivors its be cause they were good at looping and effectively changing blocks and maybe a good bodyblock here and there and not because everyone ran flashlights and deadhard to make chases last as long as humanly possible and I'm forced to slug the match.
