Well after almost seventeen long months, the golden toolbox has FINALLY been revealed on the Dead Dawg Saloon map of the Chains of Hate DLC of Dead By Daylight! We’ve known it was up in the water tower for over a year but never knew how would could see it in game. Finally! I can’t believe it was this simple.
James (who goes by Antiddos on Twitch) from the Youtube channel BeastGamingHD found it, and he shared the secret with me so that I could show it all to you.

Could those Symbols be Hieroglyphics and that triangle be a pyramid hinting towards a Ancient Egypt Style Chapter with a map that is in the Grave of Glenvale realm?

8:59 they did release a perk called red herring with that chapter so probably was there to throw you off
I noticed one time there's a specific room on the bottom floor of RPD where there's a save station and evidence room and some music plays but I'm not sure if that music is signifying a clue for the golden toolbox or not…
That table which was added recently, the cups are arranged in a way of the DBD symbol.
I get the feeling the toolbox was supposed to emerge from the box in the wagon, but some bug wont teleport it there so it just goes up and down inside its original hiding spot the water tower…

the killer shack thing probably has some deathslinger lore reason. some witch or something related to why the gang war broke out or why his bounty was in glenvale.

I don't believe this is all, it seems so much like there are still 1 or 2 steps missing. The empty box, the toolbox just going up and back down, this doesn't seem complete. Maybe you can get some word from the team about this.

It’s funny cuz this is the only golden tool box with a red herring mechanism, and this map came out with Zahrina and she has a pretty useless perk called red herring… mmmmmmm

There must be a reason for the wooden box opening that lets us see the whole tool box.
I find it funny that the opening box is a red herring. Red herring is a perk from the same chapter in which Dead Dawg released. Coincidence? I think not
This happening when a survivor came with a perk that does some very similar stuff…. Well damn.
hmm, I kinda feel like this isn't all it. we could already see it from a different angle from behind if I remember correctly. Which only leads me to believe this cannot be the final thing. so. here's a little theory basing myself solely on this video,
Perhaps the box opening is an indication that all boxes in the map must be opened before timer runs out? but that feels a little incorrect since you could add more or reduce the amount of boxes on the map so it would be easier etc, which leads me to believe I'm wrong but then again maybe you have to not take any modifiers
for the water tank thingy. maybe its an indication of breakable walls cracking? so maybe break all breakable walls as well within that times (and open boxes) xD? I honestly don't know and I'm just spitting out the first idea I have in relation to the weird events, because I honestly think they do matter. especially the box. maybe the water thing is just for show like its ''moving and cracking because its old'' but no box be opening like that. and if you said the tower stops doing this after the timer as the box… then its just weird.
