Dead By Daylight has a “fun” problem, and it seems others share my same opinion as well.

Here’s a cool video that mentions the “fun” state of DBD. Otherwise, it’s a great video!

And here’s a video of a top Dead By Daylight creator that has recently quit the game. He mimics my same opinions, but is more credible than I am.

I would appreciate if you would like and subscribe and leave a comment down below! I mainly make music since I am majoring in Music Production, but after the success of my tier list video, I decided to try and make some more videos! Feel free to comment any suggestions on what I should make next. I would also appreciate any constructive criticism about this video and what I can improve on! Could I have explained something better? Maybe better visualization? Let me know!

  1. I think this video tries to go in depth about survivor problems but its clear the content creator doesn't play killer because they barely scratch the surface of killer issues.

Unfortunately the survivor bias is real. Things like syringes, bnp and fast medkits are on par with the strongest killer add-ons in the game (Blights).
Killer slowdown also allows killers to have a bit mroe fun and engage in chases which is the real fun of the game. If you reduce gen times, you reduce chases. Unfortunately unless they drastically change how the game works at a fundamental level there won't be any more fun for the killers side by just keeping gen regression perks as weak. Which is funny because gen regression was nerfed A LOT. Unfortunately in a 4:1 community the side will favor one sides fun more and its apparent survivors fun is more important. this video is a great example, because like I said before, you didn't really go into what makes a game unfun for a killer. We need ways to get killers and survivors to interact more with eachother and themselves. More chases, less holding w, more loops that can be mindgamed for either side, but if you bring down general gen times you need to decrease chase time till hits as well. So when killer mains go to killers good at doing all of that without having to camp/3 gen/tunnel you name it they go to blight and nurse and yet people still complain

  2. I one hundred percent agree on everything, because i may be new and player level 21, but i haven't won my last 17 games, yes i have lost so many games i've started to keep count.

  3. The game's balanced around a sheet of statistics so broad they're essentially worthless.

Survivors at high mmr can run killers and spread them so thin they stop playing the game entirely.

Killers at high mmr pressure gens so efficiently that they can drag games out and make people stop playing entirely.

At its best its boring, at its worst it feels miserable to play. The devs seriously need to understand that their direction for design and balance is harming the game even if it is technically mathematically correct.

Balance and design for fun, not for specific statistical values.

  4. I use alot of aura reading because I'm experienced so I don't need to use slowdown but also makes it funner for everyone, I get matched up with people gen rushing me so Idk what to do in all honesty I don't feel like I need to get better so therefore I don't like being a pain and using slowdown perks but it's definitely painful when your learning a killer and just get gen rushed but I understand why suvivors use provethyself, hyperfocus, stakeout yada yada.

  5. As some1 with 10k hours and exp since 2016, i'd say alot of this is also the communities fault … those gen perks are fine or downright nessesary for weak killers but not for blight with alchemist ring.

Especially killers run the strongest sh!t when in reality u dont even need that in 9 /10 matches.

If i can win while listening to music with clown or trapper and neither camp nor tunnel, using only corrupt or maybe scourge hook, im sure u will win as well while playing top tier killers with good addons …. Without 4 slowdowns

  6. Like most people here, I don’t think that it’s fair to blame killers. I will admit though, I agree very much with your points.

I will say, playing against a skull merchant is so annoying and unfun, and it doesn’t help that the only maps I ever seem to get are treatment theatre, garden of ass, borgo, and rpd, plus those three have an increased appearance rate during the anniversary for some reason

  7. It's painful on both sides, sadly. I am almost torturing myself when I want to play my main killer: Trapper… But I won't be entitled to the point of saying it's not killer-sided. The stats from behavior give an average of 60% kill rate. All I'm saying is that we can't say that there are no painful aspects on both sides.

  8. I’m a killer main and I do agree that the game is absolutely boring at times. The best part of the game is the chases but I have to bring gen perks to make sure survivors don’t hit a 30 second gen in the first minute of the game my games usually end with one gen remaining in a 5 minute match

  9. (My view is killer sided as I only play killer) From my perspective if i don't bring at least 2 gen regression perks (unless playing nurse) the gens will fly so quick, even with constant hooks. the only way to win without slowdown perks is to tunnel someone out, which is not fun for killer or the survivor. On the gen note ALL but pop got a nerf. scourge hook alone is now one use per survivor and if you get bad hook spawns its almost useless. pop is only a 45 seconds time limit. call of brine is now only 125%. survivors got BT and haste off hook base kit. the 3/4 gen is the best strat as it means the killer can defend the gens and it forces the survivors into interacting with the killer. This game has always been survivor sided, however, where the game is now is the most balanced i think its ever been. ive been playing sinse release in 2016 and i remember how bad killers had it and now its about evened out. i also can understand the point of the video, however providing how you would go about making the game 'fun' for you would be even better. i would like to hear/watch a video on peoples views on how to fix the issues with the game they're not finding fun.

  10. I hope people dont watch your video THEN form their opinion on the state of the game. Theyd be led astray. Your points are at best tangentially related. Relax. Games fine.

  11. Just as dreddem stated, you cant delete comments that people stand against your view point to state other wise and i can see you deleted my comment that i showed a link of Otzdarvah facing against a old bully squad from a long time ago around 2016-17 and re-match them again to prove a valid point. So, obviously you do not want anyone to clairfy the real issue with balance for both Survivor & Killer fairly because YOU are a Survivor Main. Here is a link of an issue right now to prove my point again

  12. If the game isn't fun anymore, just stop playing. You got some things right like maps being completely unbalanced, but you can't be complaining that killer is overpowered if you're deliberately playing by yourself. Killer is supposed to be strong against solo players and have a harder time going against teams, that's why SWFs are such a pain, they have coordination and communication, and that's not at all your fault, but you can't be going into solo queue expecting an easy game and then get mad that you got stomped.
I didn't really get the whole addon rant but I do know this: Addons serve completely difference purposes on each role, being more of a "short use, instant value" thing for survivors and a "whole game, slower value" thing for killers. Powers and items are completely different and if you took a look at killers like Nemesis, Pyramid Head, Blight or even Clown you'd see that addon balance is a problem that affects all game. Also, what's the problem with bone clapper? Addons like these make the game more fun and engaging, and although that isn't true for all cases, the game would be extremely boring if Killers didn't change from match to match.

And if you wanna play by yourself so much, just play Killer instead, that way you actually get rewarded from playing alone, try something new for once
Also a few tips about the Killers you complained about: Knight's guards can be completely dismissed by unhooking someone, no need to wait the whole duration of the patrol and Singularity is anything but a defensive killer. His power can be easily crippled with EMPs, and the focus is to use it on chase to get the most value out of Overclock mode, not to camp gens.

To me it just seems like you're playing too much solo queue, take a break, try something different, but don't go complaining that you're not getting results for not playing with a team in a team game (which is not necessarily your fault but if you're not having fun, it may be time to change things up a bit)

  13. I agree that meta is boring but i don't think gen defense killers are unfair. there are like 3~4 (including hux) out of over 30, and none of them seem to have that high a pick rate compared to the free killers, or really most of the killers -twins. I try to play both sides and in most of my games as survivor i end up winning with a 4 escape even aginst high tier killers like nurse or silent bell wraith. really I find most people pick free killers, and in most of my matches play against the main 5. weirdly enough I don't think I've really ever fought against the meta on either side though. also atleast 2 of those games had you absolutely stomp the killer with 1 gen left and 0 kills.

  14. I think one of the biggest problems in the game is how BHVR balances perks, specifically that of killers. Either two of one things will happen when a killer perk is nerfed heavily:

    1. The perk will be dropped entirely because it’s became useless.
    2. The killer will find a way to adapt in a way where they still use the perk in an even more oppressive and unfun build.

An example of this is when thantaphobia was nerfed right after the the big meta perk shakeup. Since you need all survivors to be injured to get value out of thanta, then how do you get that as Legion? Constantly going into frenzy of course. This results in survivors rarely getting into any significant chases because any Legion trying to win wants their thanta value.

  15. Personally, this is how I think about the situation: This game was never balanced, and shouldnt be.
Hear me out on this one, a hot take.
I play casually. It's what I enjoy, so I do it. As a casual player myself, I don't typically throw my chair into the wall when I lose a game, but some players enjoy the competitive side and love winning, so they will throw that chair. From what I have seen from this video, it's about gameplay getting stale, because of the amount of perks, addons and so forth being changed and buffed. Now, let's think logically for a moment and think who could have caused this.
Yep, it's the community. Now overall, like you said, most of the community is lovely. I had plenty of games where we had tons of fun and we talk about that game in endgame chat. But the negative side of the community is the most loud heard, because they won't hesitate to state whats on their mind. Because of this, negative players want BHVR to nerf or buff certain things so they can use it and win more easily, while the normal community rarely does this because theybare already having fun. Typically, when the community speaks, the devs will listen, however, they are listening to the wrong people. So, what is my conclusion: BHVR should ONLY change things that are actually problematic, and not something as minor as "Egh, I hate this perk, nerf it or I will stop playing.". Again, hot personal take, but that is what I think. And personally what I think, this game is never going to be balanced and it should not be.

  16. Honestly, couldn't have said it any better, sums up everything that is killing this game's fun, it legit feels like a comp game now.
BHVR should really play their own game and see if they have any fun.

  17. actually there's some changes that can be added in order to avoid the stalig gens and camping
-flashlights can be used to burn the entity from a generator, this action can consume almost all the flashlight but it will counter gunslinger dms and sadaco brine,
-add a hitting mechanic on hook so if the killer is camping you on first hook you can press a button to kick the killer and stun them briefly at the cost of some hook time
-and your problem whit holding the interact button, you can go to settings and change the option of tipe of interaction from holding to switched, this will make that you will automatically stand repairing the generator without holding the button

  18. I am Curious, have you ever played killer or are you just a survivor main complaining? Cause you talk about the meta, but you completely forgot it is a two way street. If either side brings the meta against a non meta user, there is a high chance that user will switch to the meta cause they are tired of being steamrolled also ALL the killer perks you just complained about in this video have already been nerfed to help survivors while a perk like prove thy has only ever been buffed from what I can see. Go play killer for at least two months THEN you can come make comments about which side is favored. As for your little map rant, A map is only as side as you the player makes it, Yes some maps are a little harder But from your rant it is clear you like huge outdoor maps only.

  19. If i play killer i tunnel 1 person until 3 v 1 to easy 4k(dont camping just tunnel until 1 die). And i never play solo survivor because the matchmaking is suck.

  20. This is all so true! I have over 3 grand hours in the game and can tell you without a doubt this game is not fun at all unless you are playing killer. Playing solo q survivor is a complete mess. If it isn't a sweaty Swesker, dull merchant, or Knight tunneling or camping, it is survivors simply DC'ing or hook suiciding that make all the matches hell. SWF's are the only group winning or having any type of fun. As for the anti-camping mechanic being added to the game; there has already been a ton of killer mains talking about how they will find the edge of the area for it to proxy then just tunnel the player after they get unhooked, so I doubt it will do anything. Every rank resweat you get to look forward to even more sweaty games than usual because killer mains fragile ego can't stand not being a rank one, lmao. Like ranks mean anything anymore. I went from playing this game like 4-5 hours a day to maybe 2 days a week if that.

  21. Bro you really said " these mechanics embbed into dbd are almost strictly to one side (mostly killers) feel powerful."

That's the entire appeal of playing killer. I can't even take this video remotely serious if you said that within the first minute. Like are we even playing the same game?

    Reply
  22. The thing is that the game is so much different depending on the survivors playing solo q or 3/4 man swf that it doesn't make changes as if it the same thing. Some killer buffs are absolutely necessary if we see them in terms of facing god like swf but at the same time they are not that needed (or even excessive) when the killer is playing against solo q players. The developers, in my opinion, should differentiate the game depending on the survivors playing, creating two matching sistems one for try hards killers and swf and a more chill one for the other players who are just trying to have fun and not go for win streaks. The mmr should do this work already but it's very inconsistent and can't take into account if survivors logging in are swf or solo q (at least as far as I know). Once you establish this you can really make everyone have fun, chill vs chill and sweat vs sweat.

    p.s. Noed stupid lame perk

  23. Bruh if you think singularity is a 3 gen killer like knight and skull merchant idk what else you think is a 3 gen killer from my perspective thats what you were saying and its not true any killer can hold a 3 gen but skull merchant and knight do it the best out of them all

  24. Wait but the ruin pop meta was way worse?? this guy says the right stuff but then showing bnp and instaheal after saying the survivors add ons are bad its like he knows where to shoot but misses hard

  25. From the perspective of a new player you have a point, but that's kinda how being new works, some stuff could be implemented to help and improve QoL on both sides but again, that's being new. But you do have some questionable opinions, for example, alot of the perks you listed as being meta, aren't. Call of brine is no longer good(thank god) pain res has been reworked to be used 4 times a game. And alot of the add-ons you listed as being overpowered, aren't. The skull merchant ultra rare is terrible and i feel like you may just not entirely understand the game(which is okay) again i think from a new player perspective you make a good point but from an experienced players pov they shouldn't be an issue(some of them not all MDR can die) flashlights could use a buff, styptics are NOT useless, BNPs and anti-hems shouldn't exist. And alot of maps need complete fundamental reworks. I hope this doesn't sound disrespectful.

  26. It’s sad because I wanna play the game with my friends but they can’t even get into it because it takes so much learning. I know like all the perks and all the killers and stuff so I really do take for granite how simple the game is when you actually know it compared to how complex it is for new people. Like my friend couldn’t even find a generator, he’s like what is my objective idk what I’m doing

  27. killer mains are going to keep saying "high MMR" and bhvr is going to keep buffing them and the game is going to die. good luck finding games when survivors realize that bhvr just wants them to do gens and die so killers can 4k…

  28. The one thing as a killer player I’ve always had a problem with is that if you don’t confine to how the game is played and you wanna play your favourite killer, for myself being Trickster, if you aren’t playing hyper oppressive gen perks or tunnelling every chase.

You might as well play something else, I didn’t care about winning or losing at the end of the day, but it gets boring to have the same result with very little variety.

Now this is no fault of the survivors as they are mainly trying to run stuff that stops some killers playing in unfun ways.

But when I’m playing with zero gen stall and just trying to have a good time, it falls apart when I see two gens go before I even get my first down, due to them adding more visual clutter to most maps and raising walls on tiles trickster was good at.

Thus limiting killers like huntress, trickster and deathslingers strengths.

The fun in DBD is being drained away due to how BHVR is structurally doing things, they seem to be pushing for the game to be more ‘balanced’ but Asymmetrical games as a genre are known to be nigh impossible to balance, as one roll is ALWAYS going to be stronger than the other.

But people now a days and the devs themselves don’t seem to get this.
