One surprising addition to the public test build of the Roots of Dread chapter was the addition of a brand new killer perk to the general pool (not a Dredge teachable). This perk is called Shattered Hope and allows killer to not only snuff out boon totems but to break the totem altogether just as swiftly! Let’s read about the perk and discuss implications.

So what do you think about this new perk? Do you love it or hate or are you merely indifferent? Will you use it as a killer? Does this perk make running boon perks less attractive to you? Let me know!

  1. I love this as a survivor running CoH, 1 less annoying gen regression perk for killers!
It could be strong with Pentimento but killers are already using plaything to get more totems.
Since I don't have much experience with this hex but can re-kindled totems by hex be booned again?

  2. I swear to god, if the killer can destroy totems with this perk in less than one second, I'll freak out! Every interaction with totems takes survivors like forever, for killers everything is fast… they don't even have to turn on their hex perks, which by the way cover the whole map, boons not. And boons are loud, hex perks not. Boons were nerfed twice, hexes not. See a pattern here? I'm also afraid of new toxic playstyles with this perk, like some people in the comments said, especially with hex pentimento.

  3. i love dbd i am killer main but i think i leave the killer side game and just play surv too stressful playing killer this perk should be basic. I don't see surv using a perk to break ruin and devour hope anyway I give up and move on to the less stressful part of the game❤️

  4. I feel like this should of been a base game mechanic, even if it was a weaker version like “stomping out the same boon 3 times will break the totem” making this a perk just feels like a bandaid fix.

  5. Busted! I think it will be OP, but if you're not killing it won't matter. Personally I like when survivors run boon totems because survivors depend on them too much while not getting gens done.

  6. I think behavior doesn't understand their own game. Since introducing Boons the game has lost over 50% of it's concurrent players. Their fix was mediocre number nerfs and now for killers to waste a perk slot that is needed for gen defense in an already unbalanced match. I foresee more months of negative players to come.

  7. This sounds good on paper but thinking about it makes one realize it has about as much use as lightborn. It specifically counters a certain mechanic and you are guaranteed zero value from it. This would have been useful when COH was playable but after gutting that perk there is not much to worry about from the boon side of things. As others have said, bringing this has potential value but more often than not it's a dead perk and with other better choices in rotation there isn't much reason to bring it. This could all change post perk rebalance but for now it seems underwhelming.

  8. I don't think that this is a good idea. Perks need to be balanced, and Boon: Circle of Healing is overpowered. Players should not have to pick a perk slot to counter an eventual upcoming overpowered perk. That's like a "deny dead hard" perk. They should better balance the perks instead of handing over a deny-perk for certain things. Sounds like a programmed excuse to me, like if ppl still complain about circle of healing, they now have their hidden ace: "Then take the deny perk for it."

I mean, if they go with that, it's still => Why are killer totems destroyed by survivors "built-in"? Why don't survs have to take a perk that allowes them to destroy the totem and if they don't take it, they just snuff it and the killer can incenerate it again? Why can't killers just set up their hex totems again, if survs can do that?

  9. I feel like after this perk it’s no longer gonna be worth the risk of bringing more then one boon perk. Since with one your only risking one of your perks gone forever it’s almost a trade off but if you bring multiple your risking completely losing 2–4 perk slots depending on how many you bring. Not to mention COH is the only boon that’s currently very good anyway I’ll sadly no longer want to take the gamble

  10. Mmm seems like boons are going the way of mettle of man – you get pretty much one use of it in a match and that's about it. As someone who plays both sides, I don't really think this was needed – a better rework of MMR might be a good idea instead as the only time I find boons to be a problem is at higher MMR where I face off against bully squads. Then again, because of all these changes, people are less likely to solo queue and it seems that BHVR can't find a balance there. They're making the survivor side become more multi-player heavy than solo queue at this point – it's a feedback loop of sorts and it isn't good for the game in the long run.
As someone who has been playing since console release in 2017, I have seen so many changes since that initial time – post legacy though – and I'm at the point where I hold on to dbd for nostalgia sake, but I don't play it anymore. I prefer to watch people play at best, but most of the streamers I watch are now moving on to other games, especially since MMR.

  11. thank you Paulie, for keeping us posted on all the knew stuff. Yes but I think from a survivor point of view we are powerless compared to all that the killers have. Just my opinion, I do play survivor more than killer. I thought is was great when they come up with this to help survivors have a better chance.

  12. there is an easy fix just let the totems on ground level only be boon totems. problem solved, no need to get ANOTHER perk that undoes something one perk does. they need to stop fixing things by bringing in endless perks

  13. so nerfing wasnt enough. now they have this?! im not a pro killer but i never had problems with boons at all! i can see boons being dead for a couple months but after that boons will be back in games cause killers will realize its not that great a perk maybe?
