The Dead by Daylight PTB released today and I have played around 10 matches as Clown and I feel ready to give my opinions on the upcoming changes.

These are my very early impressions of the DBD PTB!

As always, these are just my opinions, don’t get too stressed over them.

  1. PREACH IT ON THE CLOWN CHANGES! Exactly my problems with his rework. I don't know if "certain devs" would be that petty about being proven wrong, I just think they are clueless about how the game is played.
"Entice survivors away from pallets with yellow gas." They said. I'm still rolling on the floor over that one.

  2. I didn't like the sound of the changes when reading them. After seeing them in action I'll say that it's not as bad as I originally thought it would be, but it's not really a buff in my opinion. I don't like the fact that as a killer a part of the clown's power actually helps the survivors. I can't think of any other killer who's power does that.

  3. They should honestly change the yellow bottles so that they apply exposed status effect for the next time they are hit, it would be easy to dodge for survivors since it lingers and it could be powerful to shut down loops and the survivors could decide wether or not it is worth it or not

  4. i hate the new HUD
Clowns update is better than i thought he would be i still need to play him more to have a more solid opinion though
i don't personally have a big opinion on the new graphics if i had to say i guess i like them especially the Game map

But the new HUD is terrible its all over the screen makes it feels cluttered i think they should have just updated the old HUD instead of giving us this terrible HUD
I personally think this is a bad update specifically because of the HUD

  5. I was recently in a stream last night with Space coconut, we and a few others were doing KYF to see all the new changes to the maps, killers etc, and one thing coconut found is that, if you want to even speed yourself up in a chase, you have to slow yourself down to not only aim the bottle, but make sure it goes far enough to activate before you get to it, some changes like the trapper were nice as it now only takes up to 6 tries and at minimum 1 as even if you had decreased luck for your first 3 tries, it still had the chance of letting people out, we found some of the new loops in the updated maps can work really well, but I think the Game has just a few too many breakable doors

  6. I don’t think bloodlust 2 on command with no way for a survivor to counter it, especially when you can stack a slow down on top of that, is a very healthy idea. The way it is now seems like a way to try and add a skill cap to positioning of bottle throws/usage.

  7. Really not a big bout the UI nor the graphics. It’s not a big change but it’s refreshing. And the clown is still the same but more. If you liked him before, fine. You get an extra jar and it’s your choice if you want to use it.

  8. I heard survivors get your wallhack addon buffs from inhaling yellow… That´s great is it not? (if it´s true?)

Lets make clown blind if he goes in his own pink next? (with addon)

Just remove the survivor effect completly with yellow bottles.

(I would have liked more brown addons that give a bunch of diffrent bottles with diffrent effects for the second bottle)

  9. As much as I like the idea of this rework I think he needs 2 more bottles, faster gas activation and a greater speed boost from it. Currently, outside some niche scenarios, yellow bottles feel like selling your car for gas money

  10. I feel like the old HUD was more user friendly. I'm already having trouble keeping track of survivors on the updated maps with my vision. Now they've covered the entire screen with information and added more objects to maps that no one was asking for, causing even more of a distraction for your eyes. Why couldn't they have just added the hooks under the players at the bottom where it used to be. The new HUD is way too much. Someone needs to tell them that you don't need to fill every empty space on the screen. The smaller the HUD the better.

  11. Here's an idea:
-Yellow bottles and purple bottles don't share bottle numbers, they have their own but reloading refills all of them
-Yellow bottles only give survivors extra 5% speed but clown gets 20%
-Survivors who walk through yellow gas laugh loudly and uncontrollably
    -Hooking survivors automatically reloads bottles
-Standing in purple gas disables survivors from repairing their current generator

  12. With Clown probably being my second best killer in the game (only second to Doctor) and hundreds of hours spent on the guy I was just straight up disappointed with his "rework" (can't use elephant sized quotation marks sadly).

    1. Having to throw the bottles ahead of you in order to get the boost once you reach the cloud makes it practically useless as there are only TWO scenarios in which the downside of the activation is circumvented a) you have a straight path to a gen (good luck on lerys, hawkins and all the other indoor maps) or b) you're stuck in an animation that takes just as long as the cloud to activate (breaking a wall/pallet, pick up etc). None of these are particularly impactful because in both cases 10% doesn't help, 10% helps in those clutch loops and barely hitting vault swings which is something clowns other bottles did way better.

    2. The fact that yellow and pink share the same 4 bottle capacity is awful because now if you want to use the yellows for travel you will enter a chase with 3 bottles or less and if you have to reload in chase it's usually gg unless you have thick cork stomper which is now the ONLY ADDON that helps with reload (for whatever reason they made 3 out of his browns useless).

    3. His Addons are almost the exact same: flask of bleach is still his saving grace, his reds are still the same and solvent jug went from great to meh VHS porn just switched with smelly inner soles for whatever reason and there is now only one ether sooo… yay he's not in the same dumpster fir tier of addons like Twins and Demo but is that really and achievement?

    4. His sound clues JESUS TAPDANCING CHRIST vaulting windows, breaking pallets, breaking walls, picking up, throwing a bottle he gives and audio clues for EVERYTHING it's like Demogorgon but way less threatening as he does it on such basic things. Yes they give him character but severely cripple his gameplay at high ranks. Also his hitbox when it comes to pallets is still the size of jupiter.

I agree that the best things to do now would be to remove the "activation time" of his yellow gas because right now it's just way more trouble than it's worth and increase the speed boost to 15% so that it makes mathematical sense to use it over the pink bottles.
Clown right now has potential but I'm not too sure why BHVR became so stingy to give Clown only 10% speed extra in a world where Billy, Oni, Blight, Spirit and Nurse exist…

  13. Ok one thing I have to say that really caught my attention is the idea of yellow bottle being used for map mobility. To that I say scrap that thought. Sure you CAN use it for that but think about this: do you use play with you food for map mobility, or chase power. Answer is obvious: chase power.
As a killer main (because you have to say what ”side” you are) I think what they have done with clown rework from what I have seen is good. You need to think a bit when and how to use the yellow ones.
For example, you are within chase range of survivor. You can first lob the yellow botte at survivor, then switch bottles and lob purple one at them. Because yellow takes a bit to activate, survivor doesn’t gain speed boost, but by the time YOU get there, it is active. If you throw your puprle bottle well enough, the survivor is now slowed, while you move faster. And that’s just one example.
Sure you can use it for map mobility but as you said it yourself, it’s not worth it. Because I’m pretty sure it’s not the point. Point is to give you LOCALIZED mobility.
Now before anyone massacres me for saying what I think because it’s the internet: I think you are right on many things you are critical about. What I also think is sometimes (like the yellowbottle mapmobility thing) you miss the point, and critizise things for the wrong/invalid reason. Kinda like for example if someone said that hag is a shit tiet because she is slow and gets looped to shit and her power doesn’t help in chase. Well first ofcourse hag isn’t chase killer, she is prep and defencive killer. In that example rating hag shit tier is just objectively wrong obviously because she is played wrong. And before keyboard warriors hang me from my balls: no I didn’t say you or anyone here said it, it’s just an example.
An idea for you: how about getting someone notable from the community to join you for these videos for discussion. That way you could get wider scale of thought on the criticism that this dbd (unfortunately) oh so often deserves.

  14. I'm with you. I recently started playing Clown and going against red ranks is the worst. I cant see through the purple clouds and lose survivors instead of getting them. it's ridiculous. Having a yellow bottle that can also boost survivors is something I would never use. So, actually, they changed nothing for the Clown. He's still slow, as blind as all survivors while being in his own toxic cloud and the reload speed didnt look that much faster. I wish they would take away the slow down movement while reloading. playing him on Red Forest, one of the biggest and worst maps in DBD, is no fun since he is so slow and people tend to gen rush. But that applies to every killer who cant teleport or run super fast. I always struggle with putting enough gen pressure while also chasing somebody, downing them and hooking them. the bigger the map and the slower the killer, it's nearly impossible.

  15. i hate that people really think clown is underrated like bro throws bottles that slow u down and make it hard af to see, like what more could these crybabies want😭 like bruh jus throw bottles at them and stop cryin if ur ass with him then move on you'll be igh. If u know how to move on with ur day then shouldn't be hard to move to another main or character lmfao

  16. As a Clown main: yup you hit every problem right on the head. Yellow bottles are literally just purple bottles but worse in every way. The only benefit is that you can use them outside of a chase, but 10% movement speed between gens isn't worth it in the slightest.

  17. So you want all killers strong with no difference in gameplay or tactics to differentiate? It's bad enough that teachable perks exist for either survivor or killer thus negating ACTUAL skill usage of certain survivors vs killers or vice versa, but it also offers no incentive to play any of the 100+chars this game has (exaggerating of course, calm down everyone) based on their actual usefulness.

Instead we have the same crutch perks with the same killers most used and survivors all running the same garbage as well. It's a lazy, poorly thought out mechanic that basically leave survivors as skins rather than the personas their stories and perks are based. Since all you have to do is pick the skin you like and have teachable unlocked and, Viola. A roster of useless skins you may or may not ever touch again. And killers, man I could go on and on with the problems there as a one time killer main. But suffice it to say it just makes this game and it's poorly thought (or lack of) out play style far too easy and punishing for new players. Since there is no real way of discerning who actually wins or loses this game stands as a testament of how NOT to make an assymetrical game.

If you ever wanna discuss things that could actually make this game better without the constant see saw balancing that Bhvr does and not cripple killers or survivors and actually have a challenge that requires skill on both parties regardless of perks used, hit me up and maybe you can find some points to talk about that even Bhvr themselves haven't even thought of that could help keep this game interesting and finally give balance and continued playability to it.

  18. There’s just too much going on with the screen now.. when I say that I mean the hud, why do we need an entire corner dedicated to an item we took in? Sorry but that’s just a waste…they could have added the portraits with the old hud, it was in the PERFECT spot. It wouldn’t have took up more space either, maybe they could have moved it to the left a bit and replaced the grey portraits with the new portaits? I don’t understand why that wasn’t simple for them 😂

  19. here’s my question, as a console player , so someone without access to the ptb i would like to know if the new movement was on it, if so i would love to know how this has been applied to the real game, from what i’ve seen not a single person likes it, they don’t listen to the community at all, i played 3 games today and have decided to stop playing.
