VHS (Video Horror Society) is a new 1v4 asymmetrical horror game that looks to rival Dead by Daylight in the genre. Can this 80s style battle game knock DBD off its top spot?

  1. this looks way to dull to be a rival to dbd, dbd actually has an atmosphere and a fitting realistic artstyle
this game looks like the roblox knock off to dbd, honestly looks like a mobile game

  2. This game will fail just like home sweet home, mainly because of the fact that u can fight back against the killer which really detters new players which y dbd is successful cz u cnt really fight back againat the killers in dbd, and new players the game is killer sided which hooks new players playing killer that vhs cant do cz the killer can get his a$$ kicked as much as i wish dbd would get sum competition vhs aint it

  3. From what little I've seen it looks like weapons are largely taking the role of looping.

I haven't seen real loops like jungle gyms or shack in VHS, only windows and I haven't seen the mechanic of tightly circling an object to abuse model collision size difference.

In fact it looks like Killer speed is maybe 120% or even 125%, they seem to catch teens faster than in DBD.

Have to say I'm not a fan of the stylization. I actually kind of like the environments with that Pixar/Overwatch kind of style, but the models and animations are holy shit levels bad, like the running doesn't look right at all, as in the strides of the legs don't match the speed of movement, also it was just too ridiculous when I saw a teen flying through the air at the monster with that electric wand thing like something out of a cartoon.

  4. This is really refreshing to hear yet Im still on the fence.
As someone who plays both sides, but mostly on the survivors, even I still find it annoying that Im able to fight back so much against the killer. Stuff helps you in running, hiding, and healing; fine. But if Im able to just go toe to toe with a killer I might as well be playing Evolve.
One of the best games of the genre that was a perfect example, IMO, was Friday the 13th: the Game. I never felt like I was even close to equal footing with any version of Jason. You legitimately felt anxious when he showed up, and any tool you got was simply to keep him away just a little longer, but never let you overpower him.
Last Year: the Nightmare was probably the worst example in the genre because the survivors could EASILY beat the killer over the head with so many tools. The killer respawned more than the survivors did half the time, and you had to get in and get out. You never felt really powerful or like a killer.
Im loving the designs and what Im seeing so far. It looks like its going to have the creativity of monsters Ive been wanting from DBD for the longest.

  5. I wasn't so sure when I heard people talking about another dbd clone like this but I think this vid may have changed my mind a bit now I probably won't completely switch over to this game but I think i'll give it a good shot. the idea of being able to actually "kill" the killer seems very intriguing to me and will make it so that there is a very clear win condition on both sides no matter how many people are alive by the end of the match. if you kill the killer as the survivor team you win no matter if everyone is still alive or you are just 1v1ing the killer, if you can kill all of the survivors before they can kill you then you win as killer. and by making it actually feasible to defeat the killer even if you are the last person alive now of course it won't be so easy if it's just you all by your lonesome but if you have your team you can actually work together to be the killer instead of indirectly helping each other by doing gens or something. since it is still very possible to win as the survivors even if some dies really early on it really does discourage killers from tunneling one survivor out of the match but it doesn't do it in a forceful way that takes away killer agency it becomes the most logical decision to not focus on one survivor and instead focus on the team as a whole since you want to be stopping them from making weapons and it is probably way easier to deal with a team of 4 survivors with maybe 1 weapon instead of dealing with a team of 3 survivors who all have weapons and can potentially ambush you with all of their weapons at the same time. i don't think dbd could ever have anything close to what this game seems to be putting down for the time being aka an actually explicitly defined win condition for both sides

  6. What this game really needs is a perk called "Decisive decision" where after going down once when the killer downs you next you instantly revive yourself and stun the killer for 5 seconds. That would really balance the game out.
