I’ve been meaning to cover this for a hot minute, so let’s jump in and address the “your fun isn’t my job” mindset that’s sprung up in the DBD community. As the title would suggest, I think you have to be a real goofy goober to actually follow that line of thought to its logical conclusion, but there is some truth to it as well. Let’s discuss.

In my experience, 9/10 games if the survivors are alive and not in danger, they'll still waste the killers time by waiting at the gate just to T-bag and leave. Those are the type of people to say "your fun isn't my job" but get upset if they aren't having fun.
Asking survivors to stop being toxic is just not in their nature as the gang up role. I've just accepted that at this point. We'd need a widespread focused effort from the community to even try and change it.
I really wish this wasn't the case. It's not hard to not be an a-hole playing survivor.
To an extent the phrase applies something’s you can’t help simply winning will upset someone, playing your favourite killer or survivor with your favourite perks will upset someone and playing in whatever way will upset someone. I personally don’t care about tunnelling, camping or genrushing they’re part of the game and I blame the Devs for those things I think most players should understand that’s what each side has to do to win survivors need to do gens as quickly as possible and killers need to kill as quickly as possible so playing the most optimal way isn’t toxic on either side. After a match you definitely shouldn’t be toxic and message someone keep it to yourself just say GG and once your mind is clear look at what you could’ve done better and applying it to the next match
11:47 a very good point however in my experience most people when they’re like that or have that mentality won’t listen to any reason and will more than likely go off on their teammate for suggesting anything other than the other side is toxic
I don't care your fun isn't my responsibility…
"Resident Evil fans are garbage players. Don't play RE characters/use RE skins" – Seen that on a forum. Gee, wonder how some people have gotten into DBD in the first place??
That's why i play exclusive camping Bubba, the Survivors get so Happy about It they DC by accident, Is insane fun for everyone envolved
People need to remember that DBD is a five person experience. It’s not just you in the match – there are four other people. I’m not saying that you should make sure everyone else is having a blast, but you shouldn’t go out of your way to make sure they’re having a miserable time.
I go out of my way to punish the toxic survivors and reward the good natured survivors.
We have an understanding in Dead by Daylight, a social contract if you will. If the survivors run dead hard, head on, saboteur, adrenaline, breakout, boil over, etc., if they flashlight click or teabag or whatnot, they will receive more flak, more aggressive patrols, and more "unfair" strategies from the killer. Likewise, if the killer camps religiously, refuses to hook downed survivors, clings to three generators to the point of dropping chases, they will receive more BM and "unfair strategies" from the survivors. We're here to have fun.
He is not wrong because he made a argument for both sides
Ive seen so many power triping killers when ever i party with my one p100 friend. These ppl tend to act very subhunan as well. Which im also starting to see just bleed into the basic killer main mentality
Basically don't be a dick.
I simply reply that their s filthy normie
Playing dbd on console keeps away so much stress 😅🙈
I play dbd because I love to hunt and be hunted and I stream it
I'd like to add on to your video with some of my own thoughts. This might be long so if you don't wanna read an essay, turn back now lol.
I think that it's not your job to make sure other people are having fun is true in the way you described, but I want to focus more on the part where you said "…you shouldn't go out of your way to make sure they're having a bad time either." 8:32. Where exactly do we draw the line for that? I agree, but to what extent does that apply? I think we can all agree trolling, cheating, or griefing are obviously asshole moves that nobody should do. What about exploits? If BHVR messes up and leaves in a bug that lets survivors stack haste or something, are they not allowed to take advantage of that? BHVR is the one who messed up in that instance, so is taking advantage of that fumble, even if it is unfair to the other side, considered "making sure they're having a bad time?" What about games that are "held hostage" as we've seen lately with Legion and Skull Merchant builds? That's not fun at all for the survivors who have to endure a 35 minute slog fest of trying to get one generator done after popping 4 in 5 minutes. I think it's pretty clear BHVR does not want games to go on forever around a single generator like that. If it's unfun for one side, and probably even unfun for the side doing it, is it something you should avoid doing? Does that count as "making sure" the other side has a bad time?
Just some food for thought. The line between "not making other people's fun your responsibility" and "making sure you're not purposefully making other's experience bad" isn't always the simplest distinction.
this video did nothing.
Just yesterday I played a game of blight where I was sent to RPD by a kate and meg swf. I sacrificed vittorio, then I felt like I tunneled ace so I decided to just leave him on the ground. The meg and kate refused to heal him for 4 mins until he bled out because I couldnt find him when I realised what was happening. For the next 40 minutes, the kate and meg hid in lockers. I decided to afk, and then they slowly took another 10 minutes to finish the last 2 gens. Of course, they bmed me afterwards. I dont understand these kinds of people
The most powerful tool you have against these people is the block button I bought the game and I'll play how I please and no one can tell me otherwise
I get a lot of messages when I DC from a game that has a camping and tunneling killer 😅 I probably shouldn't but if my friends or I aren't being allowed to play the game then I don't see the point in playing the game.
People should be nicer to others. Balance is what keeps peace, Chaos brings destruction. It’s not that difficult to understand that there’s a time and a place for these things…
Although I respect your opinion, someone else's enjoyment isn't and should not be my or anyone else's priority. I've paid for the game, I am spending my time in the game. People don't pay me and can't give me their time in order to play so I am gonna play the way I find fun. The only rules I am obliged to follow are the official rules stated by BHVR themselves.
It is as simple as that and this whole topic about "is or isn't the player responsible?" is straight-up stupid and a waste of time. What if a certain playstyle that you don't particularly enjoy makes me on the other hand have fun? So by forcing me to not play this way, YOU are stripping my fun which you are supposed to be responsible for, are you not? No, no one is responsible and should not order other players to play a different way, not if they aren't breaking the official rules like "cheating, holding hostage, being toxic to the point of sending death threats and etc."
Before someone calls me a cunt, I am by no means a bad sport in DbD. I never insulted anyone and I never took advantage of any bugs or did anything that would go out of my way to make someone else's experience an absolute hell.
That's that.
The worst part of the community are the people who play the game solely for the purpose of winning… its a great way of telling everyone around you "I fail at everything meaningful I do in life and I'm trash at actual competitive games, so I need to boost my ego by taking advantage of casual players who are just trying to have fun in a party game who aren't prepared to face someone whose sole purpose is to make the game as miserable as possible so that you give up and let me win".
I'll admit I haven't gone easy on baby survivors but I do it not because its easy to kill them or that it's how the game is meant to be played. It so that way they get the determination to do better next match. Now don't get me wrong I try to give them a chance to run to fight another day. If these them and a more experienced survivor I pick the ladder.
Why do people always compare tunnelling, slugging and camping to clicking and tbagging. Those 2 survivor things give you no ingame advantage when your doing it 99% of the time whereas the killers ones can actually increase your chances to win. Just compare it with face camping and hitting people on the hook.
By the way… if you're playing as killer, and the survivor team you're playing are intentionally trying to mess with you, they aren't doing it as a personal thing, the reality is they want you to do it back… so do it back, that's one of the fun things about playing against a dirty player or SWF, they just want you to play dirty back. But when you start playing dirty against a bunch of most likely children who just got the game and don't know what they're doing, or players who aren't tryharding, you are just being an asshat.
As a masochist who got all trophies / achievements for this game twice, I'm glad I don't take the game that seriously and don't pay too much attention to balance and just assume I'm not as good against some killers / survivors in certain circumstances.
If I got irritated every time I had to use a killer or survivor with their perks and get a win I'd have never got there. I just shrug it off and I'll get it eventually.
That being said, I still remember the last time I played and faced an Oni on Ormond and I spun him several times as Detective Tapp and he proceeded to message me for several days to tell me how much of a bitch I was, looping / spinning a killer takes fun away from the other players and nobody has fun because I chose to spin / loop them the whole game.
It still makes me laugh and I'm glad I don't get that mad over a game.
At the end of the day it's just a game. If someone wants to play the way that is in accordance with the rules they should have the right to do it. Fun is subjective, for some winning is fun no matter what even if it means hard camping and tunneling at 5 gens and that's fine. We should stop guilt tripping people into thinking they are doing something wrong.
Brilliant video
You're speaking what I'm thinking. Great video ^^
I will continue to tunnel and camp whoever I want. Why? Because I can.
Although I agree it’s not your responsibility to make people happy I think everything is more fun if everyone’s having fun including DBD.
most people who "tunnel" just happened to run into the same survivor again. Say you hook a survivor, leave, kick a gen, maybe break a wall, and then come back to the hook and you see that same survivor out in the open. Should you leave them because you hooked them already? No. Their fun isnt your priority. But on the other hand, if one or two healthy survivors are in your face trying to get you to hit/chase them and you decide to ignore them for the injured. Then it becomes a problem. Sometimes the injured will be in a bad loop while the uninjured isnt and i understand that but the healthy should of tried to make themself look like an easier catch if they wanted the killer to chase them. Sometimes the saying "Your fun isnt my job" is acceptable and sometimes it isnt. Sorry for rambling and thanks for bringing this up as i dont see many people talk about it.
Completely agree with your point of view.
It's not my job to make everyone happy , that doesn't means that I am allowed to be an asshole.
I play with my own fun in mind ,while trying to now make other players have a bad time.
I'm not a people pleaser, bcs that comes with having on the long run a very bad time.
Kindness should be though without a return in mind, but it's also true that when you try your best and player spit on your face it becomes frustrating.
I had good experiences but also very bad ones that left the mark (as far as harassment on private messages on my ps account). So yeah, think about yourself but be polite while doing so.
"Your fun isn't my job."
-Killer mains when the survivor mains mald for losing fair and square
Goated video. Not even kidding
Once I played against a Blight that slugged the four of us until we bleed out because for him it was funny leave us like that meanwhile he watch YouTube and blame us for being down, because apparently we need to be good loopers to avoid that
This opinion on the killer side is totally fair
0:38
Why did you use “ad homonym” immediately after recognizing it as something non-conducive to intellectual debate?
Good video 🤙
I’ll do everyone from each side one better!
Why don’t devs do more for us?
This statement is super wide… but the reason I say this is that the main reason I “played with my food” on easy matches wasn’t (only) for the fun of it, but because I was a BP addict and would gain extra BP for hooking survivors, hitting them a lot by first doing a regular hit and THEN using my 1 hit ability like a chainsaw to optimize BP and added flexing to gameplay.
So devs can and should change the game according to their vision.
They want 2K’s to be the standard?
They want to discourage camping/tunneling. Give killers a Base Kit power-up on first hook, just like how Survivors got base kit borrowed time.
Make adept achievements trigger without 4K’s/only escaping.
I played this game for over 5 years… kinda left and having lost neurons to Resident Evil mainstream fans that will now say the newest dumbest stuff.
So the answer to fix DBD doesn’t lie on dumb ideas by the popular community, but by smart devs… which BHVR doesn’t have.
Example? All other games like Fromsoft and them not adding difficulty sliders (that’s the internet guy doing build videos job).
And FF14 online and YoshiP. Sure he does listen to the community, but he had a vision and gave a dead game a great comeback!
Essay over. Like Tru3 says, DBD is an emotional community. And seeing the reception to the 2 latest killers I see that hasn’t changed.
I play a lot of head on ace. You would not believe hiw many times i got flak from survivors, even when i got a save with it, for being off meta. And as killer, i play a slinger looking for good quickscopes. People dc all the time when im able to 2 tap them and down them quickly. Yes, over time I have gotten better at the game in general, but I like the challenge of hindering myself and still getting results.
I am generally a pretty chill Dredge main, but as soon as I end up with players who constantly tbag; I show no mercy. When I meet survivors who played very well, and were fun to play against; I will give them the gate or hatch. I am just a casual who likes to have fun, win or lose.
I can Tell u something, it starts with the survovors. They are the root of this circle of hate.
If i have some normal survivors i play very nice, no Tunnel, no Camp.
But most of my games are against the most Toxic of survivor Mains.
Who are btw 90% russians.
MMR is in the game for this reason, play sweaty and you get matched against other sweaty players. Only focusing on kills and escapes is sweaty. DBD isn't a fun game though if you play sweaty so it's up to you decide what's more important.
As someone who plays both sides, I understand why some matches go the way they go. And while I agree that my job isn't to ensure the other team has fun, I do believe it is always my job to just not be an asshole. A lot of the community doesn't get that if I'm being honest. Maybe not the majority, but a lot to the point they're a loud face for the community.
In my anecdotal experience I've only had a handful of killers say some mean shit at the end of a match vs the hundreds of survivors I've encountered since 2017
Tbh I kinda related to the Survivor and Killer rule book here and I feel bad for referring to them like I feel bad when I say “He’s fucking hook camping” when I would sometimes do it myself and I want to apologize into the void rn and vow to be both a better Killer and Survivor
