Kaiser naming all licensed chapters: 🙂
Freddy Krueger: ☹️
Thing with Fortnite though is half of that garbage doesn't even belong there. At least with this game the horror licenses fit right at home.
I just wished they would add more unique maps. Is map design that hard?
I think having both is good, it's just that they are getting things from the wrong era now. I love Lara Croft, her survivor trilogy is one of the better games out there imo, it's just there are better licenses to get that will get the numbers they want. FNaF, Slender, SCP, Creepypastas… those ones are far more interesting to me, and relevant to more people than their core audience. They keep pulling stuff from before I was born, like Pinhead, D&D, and Alien, but then wonder why they're not getting a new audience (born in 2000, for context)? There are horror licenses out there, but they seem… desperate… to avoid those… for some reason.
They're original chapters have been a bit of a mixed bag. I still don't forgive what they did to Nurse and Julie Kostenko in their tomes. Then again, Deathslinger, Oni, Spirit, all banger chapters. Dredge was fascinating, Singularity had potential too, but they fumbled it later. Especially with Hux. They had a concept, but refused to make an acceptable reason for why it went mad. Oh, I guess it just found space cocaine and took it. That sums up that story!
And the story is usually the good part of the chapter. I've hated the gameplay of the Unknown ever since I first played against him, and as him. A lot of the recent killers just don't feel good to play. Skull Merchant, ironically, being the one that doesn't suffer from that in my eyes. But, it's already confirmed that they're going to rework her again, so I'm not particularly hopeful on that front.
While i do think it should be a 50/50 split i think licenses are in no way a bad think .its exciting and brings new players i understand the frusteration but i don't mind more licensed over original or more original over licensed though i prefer more licensed
Especially love alan wake
I’ve agreed with some of your points but I disagree with some I think licenses is how dead by daylight grows and brings new players. Like I have a friend who bought dead by daylight because his a massive fan of resident evil and silent hill but that’s not my point. Licenses is how dead by daylight grows and dead by daylight haven’t obtained other licenses like Dead Space for Isaac Clark as a survivor, Uncharted for Nathan Drake as a survivor, The Walking Dead you know licenses like that that are requested by the community but I do agree that BHVR should slow down with licenses and focus on their own original chapters but have 2 license chapters every roadmap but that’s my opinion sorry for the 1000 word essay
The last original chapters done back to back to back was terrible given they were 3 versions of the same killer.
Knight drops 3 minions, skull merchant drops 5 drones, singularity drops 50 thousand video cameras EVERYWHERE.
No thanks, id rather they pad out thier own creative works with time to be more original between killers
I wish they did more original content as well since they have a lot more freedom to show their creativity(mainly with killers) besides skull merchant I love most of the originals.
Personally I'd love to see a 50/50 when it comes to original and licenced chapters. Honestly would be fine if there were more emphasis on original chapters from bhvr. And slowed it down with the amount of licenced chapters. Still think that licenced paragraph chapters are some of the more fun ones, especially with survivor paragraphs. Also would love to see more mixed chapters, kind of like ghostface, where it's a licenced character with an original story and lore. And love the fact that bhvr are more adventurous with the types of licenced content that they are adding to dbd.
No.
Forgot Nightmare on Elm Street
I want some more original the most hyped I’ve been in recent time was the Unknown and Sable me and ,y friends were rinding day I day put to have enough shards for them original chapters allow BHVR to do what they want and give more mystery as to what the character can do and gameplay. As well it’s exhausting seeing license after license which removes the fun and hype around each one now that they’re becoming more common and having to fork out £5 each chapter isn’t fun and only makes it harder for new players to get characters and perks
Well, as a dedicated player since BETA, I do not really care about the license behind a character, but about the execution, gameplay and feel. What if Vecna was just an original necromancer character? He would've been just as popular in game, just not as explosive in terms of hype. And what if Freddy was an original character? He would still be garbage :/
License is just a sprinkle on top of content that can be either good or bad, but in the end it does not change anything that much. Only thing I can also say is that original chapters are farmable, but that's about it.
It looks like I'm in the minority, but I'd be happy to get only licensed chapters from now on. I don't really get excited for original chapters. If we take last 5 original chapters only 1 of them is really good IMO (Unknown) and we got disasters like Skull Merchant or Knight. Meanwhile in last 5 licensed chapters we had bangers like Wesker, Chucky, Xeno and if we add mid chapters we had Nicolas Cage and Alan Wake. Also licensed content bring people to the game.
Honestly, I feel like the licensed stuff is what's keeping them afloat anymore. Wish they had more confidence in their original stuff, the only thing they really tried pushing the past while of their own originals is the one thing they shouldn't have (skullmerchant), letting everything else just collect dust for no reason.
we need backrooms Chapter asap
Weeping Angels from Doctor Who and Melody Riversong with Manhattan as a map would be a big W
I feel they're mostly going with that plan ever since knight, skull merchant, and I guess Singularity (I honestly thought singularity did well in my opinion). These chapters were badly received from the community which left BHVR to assume license content is what the community needed since that's what they profit the most from and how it can bring more players to get into DBD. I guess they're mostly scared that whatever original chapter they come up with, There is a chance the community will hate it unless they find a way to make the new survivor or killer very interesting just like what they did with the unknown. Hopefully whatever original chapter they have in mind will turn out well in the end.
Bhvr has stated in the past that licences don't need permission to update the killer. They've done it to demo when they changed the iri while demo was removed..
depends on the original content, if it’s like skull merchant and The singularity i’ll take license, if it’s like the unknown or dredge i’ll take it
dead by daylight
That's the only thing keeping this poorly managed game alive. The game-loop of DBD just does not stand on its own. So they've decided to become the fortnite of the horror genre.
I want a Blackbeard like pirate
I agree mostly. I don't think this games approach to licenses can really be compared to something soulless like fortnite and Multiversus as thus game actually melds its lore with the license, a real collaboration of thease ideas. And the killers are honoured with quite faithful depictions that feel right. I Wang licenses and I think theirs nothing wrong with them, but it's true that them being accompanied by a larger roster of original killers is preferable
I agree. They need to stop overusing license many times since this is DBD, not like other crossover games like Super Smash Bros, Multiversus, and Playstation All-Stars where those games uses many license characters instead of og characters. They can come up with og killers like jester, angel, scarecrow, prisoner or asylum inmate, pirate, and more they can do.
Hate to say it but in about 2 years DBD WILL be just like fortnite
"Except Freddy" – I know you missed out on Original Freddy, but that version felt more like Freddy even though he was weak. Current Freddy feels soulless even though he's slightly better than he originally was.
Also, Survivor Paragraphs don't typically get nearly as much excitement as a killer paragraph or full chapter release. I think it's hard for them to justify a survivor only releases due to this. That doesn't mean we don't see them, but I don't expect them nearly as much as a killer or full chapter release.
All things wicked has been my favorite chapter so far, and if bhvr can hang their meat like that every original chapter I feel like licensed chapters will be less appealing to the community over time.
Nah, I want more unlicensed and original content. I want more! MORE!
You are incorrect.
There are so many license free folklore creatures all around the world…
I agree with you, both on the licences and the Fortnite dilemma. As someone who loves Fortnite and plays it a lot more than DBD, I've started taking issue with the licenses not because it strips the licensed character of their identity, but because the licenses seem to eclipse any original Fortnite content. What's going on with the Zero Point, Geno, the Seven, Midas, Etc? Never mind that, here's Atla, Star Wars, Pirates of the Carribean, Family Guy, Halloween, Resident Evil, and where does it end? It robs Fortnite of its inherent value within itself.
I said it once il say it again, the art team of behaviour deserves an award, there incredible, so yes more original chapters please
Out of the licenses, I'm perfectly fine with Alan Wake in the game; After all, Alan Wake INSPIRED Dead By Daylight. Feels like paying homeage IMHO
Nah man I love licensed chapters
BHVR doesn't need to consult with license holders when it comes to buffs or nerfs for said character. Freddy is just one name on a long list of what 35 Killers or somethin'
DBD is basically already is Turning into to Fortnite, we have an emote that lets you play a instrument to taunt the killer so that’s a clear example of what’s to come
