I always used to think that getting sacrificed is what brings you back to the campfire but escaping the trial actually frees the survivor. The harsh truth of always returning to the campfire until you’re used up and casted into the void sounds really hopeless.
Having said that, I am incredibly interested in Vigo’s lore. Did he actually manage to escape the Entity’s realm? I guess that jar of salty lips finally came in handy.

I never really cared to understand the story, I just enjoy running from a licensed killer or I enjoy hooking a person
My theory is the entity is basically an in game version of the game were playing, if that makes sense:
The entity is the developers, they make and shape the worlds and such
The survivors and killers are us, both sides suffer whenever they play the game and the soulless survivors are people who gave up on playing the game entirely
Soon Cthulu will be a new killer added to the game. Just wait. Or he just becomes a cosmetic for the entity
