Ghostface: A Brilliantly Unfaithful Adaptation | Dead by Daylight Lore Deep Dive

Welcome, friends and foes, Survivors and Killers. Today we’ll be discussing Dead by Daylight’s take on the Ghostface killer, how Danny Johnson evolved from the Ghostfaces of Scream and why such evolution was an overall benefit to the character, while I address my own Magic card collection habits and struggle to say “tightly suited”.

Got any suggestions for things you want me to discuss? Leave a comment and I’ll add it to my list!

  1. You’re making video about DBD. no need to bash on feminism or get political in the first place. You lost a viewer.

  2. got a question for you, what would you think of springtrap from fnaf coming to DBD. You see like the right person to see if the lore of william afton could work or be somewhat decent in the game

  3. I like this Ghostface because he is good at killing, and he enjoys doing it. It's a game for him, and his reason for killing doesn't come from some soap operish circumstances. Ghostface is scary and awesome in DBD because he isn't some teleporting lady or demigorgon, but rather an average looking evil man that enjoys killing. That realism is what makes him so cool.

  4. First: You're a king for calling out terfs. Consider me a lifetime sub.

Second: What do you think of the supposed lore that Ghostie is the entity's favorite? I've heard it numerous times from numerous streamers, but I don't know where that's verified.

  5. "the game takes itself seriously"

the hacker goin full flying ghosface and throwing haxes everywhere: "hahaha scary movie killer goes bbbbrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr"

the guy who made the maps: "hahaha i only have 5 3d model to make an entire maps…lets go! brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!"
    "
the guy who was in charge of making the ghostface model: "despite having a real ghostface mask on the desk i am unable to make it right, lmao who cares anyway this is just a shitty mobile game XD"

  6. Fun fact: they actually at first didn't have the rights to the original ghostface but they were still faithful by making their own ghostface because there was multiple different ghostfaces because it wasn't an actual single killer like say Freddy or Michael rather just a easy to get Halloween costume associated with the murders involving ghostface

  7. Just goes to show that literally everything in this game is perfect… except the gameplay itself.
If the game had half less bugs, and changed the things that the community has wanted for years, it would drastically make it a better game. But the people in charge are actively driving it to the ground.

  9. The whole point of wanting a Scream chapter is because very obviously people wanted Scream. The whole point of Scream is to subvert the typical horror slasher tropes which you translates to the game by having Ghostface knowingly break the rules of the game. Be real here, if you put the current day DBD Ghostface in any outfit and you never had him carry the Ghostface name to begin with would you have at any point said to yourself "this guy plays like Ghostface would?" See, while there's bumbling and impulsiveness, there's also a cunning and crafty mind with Ghostface that helps balance him with being a clumsy guy who trips over his own costume constantly. The problem with this Danny character is he's painfully generic, he has nothing that links him to Ghostface of Scream and makes a poor mantlebearer. He's a serial killer, he likes attention for his murders, he keeps newspaper clippings of his conquests like a souvenir book. And? Everything about the character was thought up in a half hour crunch time block from backstory to power to perks. If you buy Ghostface because you loved Scream and are expecting something similar in DBD with how there will be multiple Ghostface killers or running into walls or masking his voice with some tone changer device you're gonna be pissed.

Now obviously you don't have to copy everything 1:1 as it would be difficult to think of how you can justify calling survivors but you take that concept of how Scream films are really murder mysteries and apply it to DBD. Give Ghostface a secondary power he can only use at the beginning of the trial where every survivor sees other survivors as Ghostface, while the real Ghostface looks like another survivor up until he strikes. You have his primary power alternate between having two Ghostfaces that fulfill different purposes. Billy is the more methodical and serious one, he's driven by a definite darkness and will not just stalk but come up to shank someone in their vitals before they can even cry out for help. Stu is impulsive, crazed but in this also unpredictable. He moves deceptively fast but he's also prone to crashing into walls and screwing up vaults during chases but each time this happens he automatically gets a movement speed boost similar to bloodlust that gives him a lunatic determination but also unwieldy.

And then you create perks that screws with what survivors think they know about DBD. They complete a generator, but wait it was a fake generator that you wasted your time doing and now the killer knows where you are. When the exit gates are open and survivors stay in the exit area for over a certain amount of seconds then the "finish line" is quadrupled in distance making their cheeky BM turn around on them. Things that make them usually go, "I'm safe" but also makes them think, "Or am I?"

Just so much potential with what could have been a truly amazing chapter if it didn't stink of capitalizing on an iconic slasher's name but had none of the charm or personality of what made Ghostface, Ghostface.

  10. Unlike the person in the pinned comment, I am not a feminist, but like them this was my first video from this channel and I'm also repelled by the shot taken at TERFs. But it's not because I'm offended, I'm just a normie fed up with hearing about irrelevant Twitter bullshit. So now every time someone makes ANY Harry Potter reference we need to add a disclaimer? Get a life

  11. I'm not sure if text on screen 99% of the video is your type editing, as this is the only video I've seen from you, but man is it annoying. Love the idea of the video, but man text on screen defeats the whole purpose of making a video.
