Dead by Daylight was one of the first and most successful games in asymmetrical horror. Over 6 years later, it’s still the most successful and seems like no game will even come close to overtaking it. If you enjoyed, be sure to leave a like, comment and subscribe!

  1. Also it’s the fact that dbd are quick with new chapters and killers they hype up one big killer and say if it comes out and the fans love it they’re quick to bring a new killer out but not too quick to the point where you feel like you don’t have any time in the spotlight of the most recent killer

  2. The main reason I think why DBD is still living and not dying because of the Lore of the Characters, Skins and a variety of Killer's Power | perks. So every single person can find the best killer | surv liked more. The Lore is the main part. Reading this histories for survs killers – it is so intresting. Entity is brining to the game all killer around the world… It makes feel like all this characters are real! Like I main Plague and I have in my mind like she was the real Babylonian High Priestess. Skins – yep, for sure, it is also one of the main part why ppl like this game.

  3. 5:02 as a IDV player i hard agree a lot of survivors have the power to just throw a ton of stuff at the killer like stuns slows and debuffs, only thing IDV does well is those survivors need to be bought by farming and the game gives you a few a.i matches to learn the game safely so you understand the game and grow you then start fighting those survivors and while being annoying they can be countered by a smart killer

  4. I think it’s unstoppable now because every imitator is exactly that. VHS was laughable. DBD has almost created its own niche and anyone else trying to muscle in just looks inferior. The only danger to DBD is complacency, but they evolve and adapt so much to community feedback that I don’t see that being an issue.

  5. Going deeper on your "Survivors with Ak-47s" argument is that perhaps other ASYMs are actually too different from DBD in general. By that I mean they neglect core concepts that make it so solid (2 stage chase with high skill ceiling, survivors don't actually start dying until mid to late game, survivors can't fight back, etc). It's like devs are trying to make a leap from Street Fighter 2 to Tekken without taking into consideration that no game genre evolves without iteration.

  6. One of the games that I was upset died was Last year, I felt it had potential and had characters that were fun and also funny to play as or against. It felt like a different atmosphere and some good competition, but i think due to covid it fell on costs and released one last chapter before stopping altogether. It was in my opinion alot of fun and a bit different, though it was a shame that it died.

  7. I agree with you 100% Liscences… and The unkillable killer.. it's the two foundations that make DBD a tough nut to crack with it's competitors..

Even Friday which I think was the best other game in the Genre let you kill Jason.. Which i think was it's biggest flaw.. Though to be fair it took a lot of setup to kill Jason and I think Friday could have weathered that and still be around if… the liscensing lawsuit hadn't killed it.

  8. Dbd needs to make over half of the killers stronger and I'm honestly afraid of base kit unbreakable. Why not just have last person alive be moried and keep everything else the same. Like if all 4 survivors are downed it only ends if they have no way of getting up.

  9. I have over 7k hours in DbD and I am still waiting for a clone to come along that just does it better. One that focuses first on map balance and not having spaghetti code but maintains the same 1v4 formula instead of as you said, trying to kill the killer. If a game like that came along, I'd jump ship in a heartbeat. None of the competition has felt "real" or compelling for me.
In the last 2 years DbD has enjoyed some of the highest peaks on Steam Charts but you can also notice that the game has failed to retain those players as the numbers always return to that <40k average. Compare that to a game like Rust (which is in the highly contested FPS category) which has managed to consistently grow its player base over the same time period. BHVR is leaving so much money on the table by being lazy and they are leaving the door open for that perfect game to come along and kill them rather than trying to become that perfect game themselves and becoming an unstoppable juggernaut… unless they secretly have a god team developing DbD 2.

  11. I feel the value DBD adds by bringing in licenses keeps things fresh. Sure perks can be similar and powers for killers follow general modes of use (speed killers, slowdown killers, loop ending killers) but the variety allows for a more diverse array of players to join the fun. There are so many licenses from all over horror it literally brings those communities together in one place. That with it's own lore behind how these killers and survivirs are brought there with original killers as well keeps this game in a special place in my heart. Im glad its still here and I dont ever want to see it die. I've been playing since it began and I havent gotten tired of it yet. 😁

  12. You forgot the Ghostbusters game my guy, it’s actually really good for its price and it’s fairly balanced with a good new player experience, of course it won’t ever beat DBD, but I do believe it’s worth a mention with you talk about newer asymmetrical games.

  13. DBD has the same thing going on that world of warcraft has going on. It's one of the first best of it's kind. People who have sunk a lot of time into the game are less likely to leave it, and it has name recognition which helps it stay relevant. There was a point during WoW that people hated the game, and it hemorrhaged players, multiple points actually, but at the time, all the WoW clones were pretty meh, so people would come back to WoW. That changed a bit when Blizzard relied on their name recognition and people's time investments and began putting out trash expansion after trash expansion, and Final Fantasy 14 become an option. WoW is still going decently strong, but FFXIV has absorbed a significant amount of the WoW player base, and it is only a matter of time before it happens to DBD. As soon as a developer that can make a similar product and has the money to throw at it for licenses, and has better anti cheat and less broken mechanics, DBD will see a migration. Even with all the missteps made by VHS, they threatened to take players away from DBD.

  14. I think a big thing that stopped Evil Dead being successful, Was it's expensive as shit and exclusive to the Epic Games Store. So not only do people not buy it cause its overpriced but also it can't get access to that Steam userbase

  15. I wouldn’t call dbd unkilliable, if the rumors of a Halloween game made by the people who made Friday the 13th are true than dbd is going to be in serious trouble if the game stays maintained. The upcoming Texas chainsaw massacre isn’t going to help either

  16. I hate seeing dbd "killers" every month on tiktok, "This game might be a better dbd" Does it have Freddy krueger, Micheal myers, Saw, leather face, demogorgon, ghost face, nemesis, pinhead, Albert wesker or the Japanese ring? Nah didn't think so

  17. I mean its always good to give survivors the ability to fight back but i guess really good players will abuse this like hell, i mean even in DBD, bully squads weaponize flashlights lmao

But yeah i agree, i got into DBD because my friend invited me to play at the perfect time which was during the first RE DLC, and im a fan of resident evil so i jumped on board and got hooked and camped on it ever since

  18. Dead By Daylight is my alternative to Smash Bros. Aside from being a video game with the largest crossover characters possible from horror games, TV Shows and Video Games… DBD still has much more to come to bring the game significant hype.

Of course the game is not perfect as DBD has an extremely toxic community, the game is incredibly frustrating to play at times, lag issues and lets not forget the abundance of bugs and glitches.

However, much like Smash, the game has such a great and high learning curve that actually using builds and playing as beloved characters from slasher movies (and original characters with unique styles), it keeps DBD fresh and still enjoyable to revisit here and there. Just make sure to take breaks as you’ll hang yourself by playing this game every day

  19. I do actually think mentioning IdV was an interesting take here, because out of all of the Asymmetrical 1v4 games out there, it's the one that's the most similar to DbD, and the second longest surviving.
But as far as many chinese games go it doesn't rip-off Dbd all that much, just the basic mechanics of 5 gens and some of the looping.
With that said it's the only other 1v4 that's managed to sustain itself for as long as it has. It's absolutely massive in Asia, with there being a big Esports scene for the game, and they have A LOT of crossovers with different animes, shows and media.
It really goes to show, if it ain't broke, don't fix it. Instead just innovate on it. Still uses shitty gacha mechanics though.

  20. I've played a lot at friday 13th game and the main issue (other than bug, clumpsy control, stupid maps) was it was indeed an horror game but for the killer. Killing Jason was the most easy thing to do, you could enter in a game and find out in the first minute they were aimin for Tommy and Pam's sweater and boom, you had no other choise to hide ( as Jason…). It fun because survivor could escape or fight back but you, as the killer, had no other option than die. Oh and also, the dev never ever listen to the community. Their forum was full of idea and suggestions and many other good ideas but they decided first to ignore the players and then to attack the community with ban, personal attacks, fake proof of the gameplay and many other things
