Dead by Daylight’s “Tools of Torment” chapter has hit the PTB and… well, it’s not what many were expecting. As always, there’s good and bad in this one, so let’s talk about it.

  1. Quick reminder that everyone's allowed to feel however they'd like to about this chapter. If somebody is hyped for this one, that's amazing and I'm happy for them! My opinions aren't the "right" opinions, they're just mine. Should have made it clearer in the video, but disagreement is totally fine! So long as we're all mature about it, debate can only make us better. Please be nice to your fellow commenters 😄

  3. Billy (added in 2016) is literally better than her.

Mobility, instadown, high skill floor, counter for survivors other than dropping pallets and holding w.

Meanwhile this girl is just boring. She's not even good and boring like Artist, she's bad and boring.

  4. They should literaly go for robotic female appearance all the way rather than what we got, cuz at what you pointed her looks is out of place being a killer in DBD unlike other human killers in the past. She looks goofy and like a MK inspired character.

  5. Lol the double standards..if he said he was excited about the new killer and liked her and I commented and said what he said, all y’all dick riders would jump down my throat telling me how bad of a survivor main I must be and that we always whining and complaining😂😂😂I mean like he’s right I don’t like this new killer either she’s definitely a rip off predator and suppose to be a apex character instead of a DBD character but nonetheless unless a YouTuber say it y’all will agree but when a regular person say it the whole comments just barrage them with “you’re just ass” “get good kid” “just delete the game bro”😂😂now tell me I’m wrong

  6. I'm disappointed that they took the concept of a drone power, something with a lot of creative potential, and just turned it into another "place down at loop, survivor dies if they stay" type of power.

  7. I don't hate her design whatsoever and I think she looks cool, but like you said cool for a game like valorant or apex. Maybe even as a survivor skin for someone like nea. I feel this update is getting more hate than it possibly deserves but I do understand why people are disappointed… but we'll have to wait and see what it's like when it comes to live servers and make a full judgment there

  8. I actually love SOME of her themes. The idea of a CEO that guts companies physically and metaphorically is awesome. The idea of killing and strapping the victim’s skulls to drones is also really cool. Power wise: I love it. Lore wise: it’s odd. They tried to mix the idea of manga obsessives and a tech killer together and it couldn’t work. I’d replace the manga with the idea that every time someone beats her, which happens a few times in her lore, she punishes herself by improving her body with tech. Let’s say instead of the arm and the robotic piece put on it could just be cybernetic. Instead of a weird, useless gas mask covered in diamonds, she could be paranoid about showing her face and being recorded, a reason for why she is obsessed with doing that to others, welding a gas mask to her face to protect from the fog and her cameras. And oh Christ why does she have a resident evil bodysuit? Instead, she should have worn the white shirt, but have a bloodied apron. In terms of power, I’d remove the tracking radar (though it is SUPER cool) and instead have her use the boxes. At each box, she could get a new weapon with a slight different ability. Buzz saws that go into the ground and can slice through several survivors at once, deep wounding them. A blowtorch that sets survivors alight whilst making them traceable in a radar on the blowtorch. Each weapon’s ability could only be used once in the trial, however, and after it’s use she either has to switch it out or stay as an M1 killer

  9. i honestly love the way she looks but i don’t care for this chapter. i have genuinely enjoyed dbd ever since the drop of the first resident evil chapter. the game just went down hill from there.

  10. I've been in a funk since Nemesis released. I play a few matches here and there, toy around with the new killers in customs and sometimes play swf with my friends but… It's been a long time since I've played like I used to. Killer main. Back before Nemesis, things were just getting worse and worse. I was getting angrier and angrier. Saw a video made by Scott and realized I was bored. Stopped playing. I thought Wesker was going to reignite my passion but… it didn't. I dunno what it was. Maybe I didn't like his power or his voice actor wasn't Douglas.

I really want to love this game again but something is holding me back. I am cautiously optimistic about this chapter because I really like Merchant's perk "Game's Afoot". I like the idea of running Game's Afoot with Furtive Chase, Brutal Strength and Overcharge. Whoever you hit in the beginning becomes your obsession and whoever saves them becomes your obsession. With the killer's information gathering, you can find the obsession and it helps a lot in chase.

I performed really well with this build… but there was this one spot where I lost the obsession and was up the poo creek for a while.

  11. I actually like her design more than a lot of other original killers, but it doesn't exactly thrill me. To me the only strong stand-out designs are Oni and Blight. Some like Knight were actually a disappointment to me, I hate his hair coming through his visor and the new helmet on his new tome looks incredibly silly to me.

Overall I have a hard time understanding why this killer's design is so offensive to a lot of people. I get the disappointment that she's not a cool cyborg, but I don't think she looks terrible. She looks more like a supervillain than a slasher villain, I guess.

  12. I think she has the potential to have great cosmetics, maybe they can lean more into the cyborg-ish style there, but they need to beef up her base design. As it stands it’s almost…nothing? I mean it’s Kris Jenner in a bejeweled gas mask. Give her more pizazz!

  14. 9 did this concept way better of building machines out of scrap metal and bones and using them to hunt the opposition. I wouldn't have mind if this killer was the inventor and created a bio mech abomination out of human bones and scrap metal. Here's a clip for more insight of my imagining of the killer

  15. I think the criticisms originate from "It's not a giant robot, I am disappointed" but… I don't see the criticisms on her power.
Holding a 3 gen? In my PTB experience, that is NOT where she excels. She fares best when she's unpredictable.
Hold W against her power in loops? You're just giving her free hits. In some cases it may be better to stay at a safe loop while Exposed than give a free hit just to run elsewhere.

What I think IS fair criticism?
She doesn't seem to have a high skill ceiling, there's not much one can do to train and get better at The Skull Merchant. Knowing the best spots to put drones so its beams cover a wide area is about all there is (there's a spot on Midwich stairs where an activated drone WILL Expose a survivor through the floor if they try to run up the staircase, because going up both flights of stairs keeps them inside the radius long enough). You can also manually activate drones from a distance, with a cooldown. Doing that at the right time might be the only necessarily skilled play for her that there is.

  16. I think the growing burnout of DbD is fairly widespread. I think at least part of this is due to a lack of new "real" innovation. The only thing that will really reignite interest is some 2v8 mode or Steam Workshop integration / mods or even just a new permanent interactable like snowmen, but actually impacts the flow of the game. As more and more chapters go by without anything really NEW: just another killer and survivor(s), it seems less and less likely that we will get anything like that *ever*. Dismay follows.
