  1. I still think that Dbd commentary is a good and necessary platform for discussion because I like to think most people actually try to have a real conversation. There will always be those people who are overzealous with their views that's just human nature. I don't think that it's enough for commentary to be unhealthy for the game as a whole

  2. I do believe that dbd commentary is good because they are people who will want to talk (Like me) about the health of this game because balancing is very important

    Unbalanced DOES NOT equal fun

The Knight Bug is a great example because yes it was super fun for me to have me and the boys all out and chase everyone but I KNOW it wasn't fun for the survivors which is why i only played a few games of it. (He comes back tomorrow tho WOO!)

Another thing about dbd commentary is how they can be informative of how to play. I was genuinely surprised how many of my survivor main friends did not know you could avoid Skull Merchants drones by crouching or just standing still therefore adding huge counterplay to the 3 gen strat as you can crouch through and the drone will not pick you up at all.
I eventually want to make my own videos about Killers and make a series like
"So you wanna learn ____?" And dbd commentary videos help me learn how i want to structure my videos.

So I wouldn't say DBD commentary is unhealthy. I think it's important to attempt to make a bridge to both sides whether you're a killer main or a survivor main where we can both discuss the flaws of DBD and how we can fix them. There will a lot of loud complaints and bias thrown but even if there's one person who's like "Yeah I would like to talk" i think it's worth it

  3. Guy on tiktok just insulting and crying like a baby over the lights out gamemode. Then in the comments saying it is criticism. The dbd community simply can't discuss it's just crying and moaning and whining instead of actually sitting down talking and offering realistic unbiased solutions.

  4. I like the react content and have really liked the more candid discussions like the ones youve had this week. I dont know how much crossover your yt subs are to twitch but i think a lot of twitch watchers catch your dailies like me. Its a great way to set the discussion + this game has always been an arms race and I wouldnt feel burdened by it cause thats just humans being humans. Yt doesnt show the totality of your dbd experience and opinions, nor can you have that back forth and distillilation of issues into the needs of the players to have a enjoyable experience. Even then its through a lense of strawmen and bad faith if your opinion dont lock step with them because people play differently and the diversity of play atleast at the mid level is/was one of its strong suits even if its off meta.

  5. Lots of people just aren't good at expressing themselves and articulating their thoughts. Sometimes people aren't "parroting"… they just heard someone clearly express what they couldnt, but they always had that take. Bran I've seen you be condescending to people that have made statements about the game you've said people have had stupid takes and everything lol I just feel like that's not that big of a deal tho

  6. 1. The "parroting" effect you mentioned isn't just commentary, it's content in general. Videos give us a really personal experience with someone, and can feel like a substitute for our own. I've had several discussions about characters where I'd give my opinion on how to play them best, and be pointed to a Hens video demonstrating some other way to play them that the video "proves" is always effective. At that point I'm not really having a discussion with them, and that's just too bad.

    2. I've always appreciated how Scott Jund makes a video and says something like "I want to hear your thoughts below and maybe we'll see," then sometimes reference things said in the comments in later videos. Sort of refining his original idea(s) and trying to come up with better ones. I'm not sure any one person can play the role you aspire(d?) to, but as a community it does seem like we get better at discussion over time? I thought your recent discussion of tunneling was an improvement over the discussion Otzdarva had ~9 months ago, as an example.

    3. I like to talk about the game because I like the game and I like talking. I don't expect anything to come out of it, and I think we'll all be a bit worse off if we do. On a positive note, BHVR's response to outcry over the Overheat mechanic being added years ago was basically to laugh it off and say they didn't care. Compare that to everything post-2022. I think they're getting a lot better at listening.

    4. I find the discussions on YouTube (at least the ones that don't get deleted) tend to be some of the more informed and constructive ones overall? I post elsewhere sometimes, but this is one of the only places it feels like people read, listen, and try to respond to what I actually said.

  7. It's just human nature. When people have opinions on things, they will fight and argue those opinions fervently, and some end up taking it to an extreme where it's no longer even about the original discussion. As long as we're able to distinguish between a very harsh criticism of ideas vs just an attack on the person, then it is in some ways healthy. Even if it might look very ugly.

  8. You know, this might be an internet problem, but I feel like purely text-based forums aren’t conducive to healthy conversations. You lose so much subtle information without the tone, the speaking voice, the facial expressions, etc. Text is so… neutral, which I feel like it lends itself to sounding worse than might be intended.

Edit: To answer your question – the kind of behavior you've described is very common regardless of platform or creator.

  9. "Is DBD Commentary Healthy?" NO… not a single side community in DBD is free of toxicity and DBD commentary is no different, any game is like that and there is nothing much that can be done.

  10. I’m often amazed at how antagonistic this community is. We often points to how survivors behave, but people just straight up are not allowed to talk about how the killer side is easily just as bad.

The amount of killers I’ve played against who will BM you, hump you, bleed out multiple survivors on the ground while refusing to hook is insane lately.

And I’m tired of people always assuming there’s a good reason for it, when often there isn’t. No teabags, no boil over shenigans, just playing the game normally.

And people will respond to this type comment, with complete disbelief. The community is very one sided who is allowed to speak on their experience, criticize another players behavior, or comment on any balancing issues, and it’s just reflective of much of the community as a whole.

Mean, argumentative, elitist, doesn’t care about anyone else’s experience. It’s quite pathetic. It’s not cool when people are assholes to each other on either side of the game, and just because you can abuse the in game mechanics to go out of your way to ruin someone’s enjoyment of the game, doesn’t mean it’s okay to do so.

Double standards everywhere, mean spirited behavior everywhere, hatred of other players everywhere, NO this is not a healthy community.

  11. Ironically enough, the comment sections under youtube videos tend to be one of the more civil places to talk about DBD. But commentary videos can sometimes be frustrating for community discourse when taken outside of youtube due to accusations of parroting.

When I'm in agreement with a video a DBD content creator made, one of two things happens.

If I already held that opinion as well prior to the video being uploaded, I am now a fanboy parroting my favorite youtuber. This happens to me a lot with Scott Jund, who I share many opinions and takes with apparently. Or, for example, I hold the opinion that current Sadako (before the rework she's getting) is a high tier killer, but many DBD redditors think she's terrible because she has a bad chase power. So when arguing, I sometimes make the mistake of mentioning "Look, Otzdarva also thinks she's high tier right now" which immediately results in an accusation I'm just blindly listening to Otz, when I'm just using him as an example of a well-respected community figure who generally knows what he's talking about

However, if it's not something I previously thought about or if I held a different opinion and the youtuber's argument changed my mind, I still get accusations of parroting and not thinking for myself if I then repeat any of their arguments anywhere.

And then you also have the people who actually do just say that a specific youtuber said something and therefore it must be true.

  12. I wonder why people get so incredibly frustrated with commentary content like yours, Scott, and Otz. Many times i will find someone absolutely demonizing the heck out of them for very reasonable takes or simple discussions. I understand not agreeing with someone but its to an extent that it makes the creator seem like they hurt their family or something, I wish people in general would be more willing to understand each other.

  13. The Problem is if BHVR listen to some Creater the Community 100% blame and hatred the Creater like they do against otz so many times
Otz wan't a Healthy game but ppl have so small brain and take it personaly.
"Off course you wan't MFT nerf because you are Killer main blabla" or "You betrayel all Killer mains because you said STBFL and Ultimate weapon should nerf blabla"
