  1. League has the same issue. To play even in the low levels there has to be so much shit running through your head, it just all ends up feeling like bullshit for new players. I have like 100 hours in dbd and there’s still the rare mysterious status effect and frustrating perk I’ve never seen before. The silver lining is that the meta is so strong you only see like 20 perks on both sides

  2. I'd have to say the steepest learning curve wouldn't be the perks but the killers themselves.
Sure, there may be something like 33 Killers at this time but with Add Ons I'd argue there's probably a couple hundred you could end up going against.
Like sure, you're going up against a Myers but which Myers?
Infinite Tier 3? Instant Kill? Which flavor of instant kill? Super stalk? Super stalk: obsession edition? Mirror Myers? Which Mirror?
Wheras Perks, as you mentioned, you only really have to pick up what a core group of them do on either side and then you can go ahead and catch on to what others do as you go.
You're probably not going to be that caught off guard by an Opponent's Hoarder or Slippery Meat, but you should probably always be aware that the Clown could insta down you if they hit you with a bottle.

But yea, great video, they should really do something to help new players learn because the list of crap you have to know gets bigger with every patch.

  3. When I came back to the game Legion was fairly new, and because everything was rank based back then I was in rank 20 lobbies. I went against some survivors that I can only assume barely had 100 hours in the game. One of said survivors kept getting into a locker whenever I was in Frenzy and had the Killer Instinct detection. So obviously I kept finding and grabbing them out of lockers. After the match they were pissed and called me a hacker for always knowing where they were hiding. I had to explain it was part of my killer power

  4. I’m somewhat split. On one hand, the basic gameplay loop is super easy to understand, along with a good majority of the other mechanics in the game. I did have issues learning what many of status effects do, and learning what certain killers do. I picked up most of my knowledge just by playing the game and watching other play the game and describe different aspects of the game. I think the real problem here comes from how rough the learning curve for this game is when playing. I often when I first began playing ran into a ton of swfs and just really good survivors which made getting into the game to be kind of hard due to how hard I was getting destroyed. The same thing when it came to playing survivor. My main solution for this would be a better overall tutorial that goes over more of the overall mechanics, and then separate tutorials for each of the killers, and more complicated survivor perks.

  5. I was sort of lucky as a new player as yes, I had people who where here since 2017 of dbd but really only found out good resources until maybe 2022 I started mid 2020 so me not knowing a wiki exists is partially my fault but I was also new to the game, and had no clue dbd was here since 2016,so i just use the wiki for the niche info I need to know (like how much luck % you get at max per item given and is really only used in my meme builds with slippery meat.) also no idea why such a small 3% at max luck isn't just listed as "gives luck %" per item. TLDR version:the wiki is almost always needed for offerings or specific content not explained ingame

  6. DBD isn’t too complicated. When do you start, it can be confusing when it comes to traversing the maps and learning how to do things like knowing when to drop the chase, when to stick to gens, when to lookout for people going for a a pallet or flashlight save, etc but these are skills you pick up as you go.

  7. When I started the game. It wasn’t really complicated. I’m very studious and quick to learn new videos games I want to be good at. I had a year to learn because it wasn’t out on consoles yet. But not everything is easier said then done for most. But for me I quickly climbed the ladder of experience when I finally got my hands on the game. I knew how to loop, how pallet vacuum worked, what hatch was, what every killer’s ability could do, the perks, etc. But not most players that start are casuals that don’t really try to learn the game to the extent I did. I was very fascinated in the game because there was nothing like dbd at the time. Same goes for Texas Chainsaw Massacre. I was coaching my friend who was playing the beta and I guided him to escape his first game. And I never played the game once. I’m just quick at watching other players and understanding what to do and how to incorporate that myself. But that’s where people that have trouble learning these types of games fail. It’s either their mindset or they really don’t have the drive to learn more about the game to improve.

  8. The bad thing is the game does nothing to help us understand what does what. But one the other hand I’m happy this games as complex as it is because honestly it provides a lot of interest and interaction between games

  9. As a veteran player. It's getting to a point where it's boring. We gotta use meta perks to win a game as killer or survivor. I been playing this game since the 4th anniversary. It's still fun to come back once in awhile. But I can't play this 24/7 like everyone else and have like 3 P100 characters. I can't.

  10. Dbd doesnt have a problem w complexity, it has a problem with clarity. I play Identity V, a similar asymmetrical horror game where the abilities of the killers are arguably crazier than DBD, not only that ALL the survivors have their own abilities as well. The thing is you can very quickly understand the abilites of them because after losing a match to them you get an option to view a quick summary of the abilities of the characters you just faced, along with ways to counter them. Like "oh hey you just got demolished by The Clerk, she can record her and your actions and replay them in strategic situations, you gotta do x or y to avoid getting caught by her" that way you get an intense experience first facing them, then learn how to fight them later on.

Also at higher ranks of IDV you get an option to ban one killer or survivor. Obviously DBD doesnt have unique survivors so i guess it can only apply to perks

  11. Back in 2016, this was never an issue, I think as the game has gotten more and more complex, and it will continue to get more and more complex. Ive also advocated for improving the new player experience with simple things like a small Bloodpoint Boost that is duration-based to ease players into the game a better better and let them catch up a lot easier, but even something as simple as that wont help them that much with understanding the game.

  12. Another issue is the spinoff of 'Bethesda's Bug', which is 'BHVR's Bug' or when you don't know if something is working as intended, or it is a bug. In this match in particular, you had the Clown bottle swap muscle memory to swap bottles to purple after tossing a yellow. But with BHVR's bug, in the past few patches, Clown bottles swapped mid-air can now be swapped from Yellow to Purple or vice-versa. This theoretically could be used as a 'tech', but you wouldn't hard arc a purple bottle that isn't intended to hit a Survivor, so you have to now re-learn the timing on when to swap bottles just because a bug is present. When they fix the bug, anyone playing Clown will then have to re-learn the swap timings AGAIN if they were trying to make use of the bug for their advantage instead of detriment. So essentially not only do you need to know how EVERYTHING works, you also need to know how specific things DON'T work properly on any given patch.

  13. I think a good way to help new players in dead by daylight is to give those new players, a handful of perks for all the killers are all the survivors they have for they can make one or two build This will make it where they don’t have to grind as much and they’ll have a bunch of perks ready for them to use and them to figure out how to make a good build.

  14. Remember over 200 unique* perks, 32 killers with unique abilities (and xenomorph), various addons for all 33 killer abilities that are either just stat buffs or entirely changge how one or both sides play, items, item addons, map layouts, tile types and generation, how windows and pallets can and can not spawn outside of jungle gyms, on top of just basic skill, a very complicated game that barely explains itself, definitely overly complicated
