This video is a deep dive into the state of DBD. Is it dying? And if it is, what is killing it?

I would love for DBD to introduce a new hiding mechanic. The winter event showed this because it was fun being able to hide in snowmen and have the killer walk past because they didn't think anyone was in there. Also, would love to have a new item introduced to the game. Maybe something like a sledgehammer (this is a goofy idea). The sledgehammer can be used to open breakable doors and also can be tossed and used as a distraction similar to the pebble perk, This wouldn't make the pebble useless since the sledgehammer would be a one-time thing.
Awesome video….great job!!
Seriously i just started getting interested in DBD.
Yup I played this game from 2017 to the point they reworked all the perks and ever since then the game has gotten so damn boring. I can’t play this game anymore.
I stopped playing this game when I died to killers simply because ether removed a pallet in a loop as RNG like no that triggered me because the killer isn’t supposed to fucking get a free kill when I play the loop and mind game the killer well. If I won the mind game I should not be punished for it.
Your final point!!!!! Handicapping skilled players in order to help unskilled players!!!!
To this day i still get annoyed by skill based match making. There is no skill.
And there you go again making really good points. BHVR does not know the difference between skilled play and unfair advantages.
Healing was nerfed because it is “unfair”, even though it still allows the killer the ability to search for the survivor.
Meanwhile camping and tunneling is still in the game even though this style literally prevents the person being camped or tunneled from playing at all.
Mannnnn 2018 to a good chunk of 2020 dbd was amazing back when it was still fun, and the maps were darker to make the game creepier and more atmospheric. I miss those days 😔😔😔
i think DBD needs more engaging killers for both sides like wesker or palgue to make the game more fun for both sides
We DESPERATELY need a new game mode or style of play or this game will die in the coming years. If we don’t get that they better have some BANGER chapters this year otherwise people won’t care anymore
Dbd is and always has been a party game, the devs trying so hard to balance and nerf both sides is making the game insanely boring. We need more events like the snowmen to happen, and I'm talking about the first time they came around, super unbalanced but so freaking goofy and fun. They need to lean into the silly game dbd used to be, where your friend would hide in a locker and you'd rat their ass out and laugh as the killer grabs them and hooks them. Nobody cares about rank or mmr, just make this unique wonderful game fun again.
Give us shirtless Myers, Shirtless Skull Merchant, Shirtless Artist, and Shirtless Rebecca Chambers and it won’t die. Promise.
Yeap… Due to these factors I've been playing Evil Dead: The Game, because im tired of Soloq, and yes, every now and then i play killer, and certainly is way more fun than playing solo, to the point that im thinking about not playing solo ever again until i got a 4 man SWF, bc i don't feel that i stand a chance if im alone :c
And Evil Dead has been a breath of fresh air for me, and i do feel that i stand a chance against the killer, and that i don't rely entirely on others decisions to actually win
I feel like ever since SBMM was introduced is when these problems started happening. MMR doesn't seem to know who the fuck to pair you with (on the killer end, I either get fresh newbies or SEAL team SWF no in between) and me personally I feel that's one of the biggest detriments
I am going to be honest, I did not like the video.
The community have been saying that the game is about to die from so long.
Is not true that Behavior is just looking at raw data, I think that was just valid in the past. For example, Behavior while trying to balance killers, they tried to make sure their killrates are 60% instead of 50% for account for the fact that survivors being a team of 4 have a bigger chance for mistakes in a team compared to killers and also because sometimes people throw the game or dc.
People saying "DBD is dying" does not prove that's true.
This is why I agree with the takes like Killa Whale and Kaiser, the DBD community is filled with pessimism and hate to the developers and can't see anything good for the most part.
Just because the game is not perfect it doesn't mean that the game is trash and developers don't know what they are doing.
Also I think that you should at least bring solutions to the problems that you see.
Its time to try something new. If you haven't already, if you're on PC and want to try a new DBD like game look into VHS(Video Horror Society). If you played/watched gameplay when it initially released the game has received many updates and doesn't play the same as it did when it launched. I highly recommend spending a week trying it out, it definitely has a higher learning curve compared to DBD. This is due to the fact in VHS you are actively fighting the monster not simply playing tag with them, like in DBD where the only thing you can do against the killer is just run(Looping is still just running from the killer but just in a circle). The gameplay on both sides are 10x more engaging in VHS. As a teen(survivor) in VHS you don't just sit a generator for a minute and a half bored out of your mind, in VHS you are making weapons to protect yourself, teammates and to killer the monster. This already makes teen more engaging as you have a lot more things to think about and consider. Should you craft a weapon that better in a close range fight or should you craft a weapon that you can use at a distance? Is it better to hide and wait for the monster to leave or should you take the attention of the monster and allow your teammates to craft? These are things to consider when playing as a teen in VHS.
As in Monster(killer) the gameplay is way more rewarding imo because you aren't just knocking down helpless people. The teens are actively trying to kill you as you are trying to kill them. This also means playing as monster is more intense and engaging as you can't simply wander aimlessly until you find someone to chase, you need to mindful of teammates who can waiting around to corner to blast your face off. As monster your interactions with teens are 10x more entertaining as every interaction can be different and unique, not like in DBD where every chase is the exact same but in different location. In VHS the teens can set up traps or 1v1 the monster. What can survivors do in DBD oh wait just hold W and pray the killer makes a mistake(lose a mind game).
I'm having more fun than I've had in almost two years. Love it.
Thing is they nerfed a bunch of perks without making things more interesting. That on top of two botched killers is a death sentence.
I love how survivors were fine when all gen perks got nerfed, mmr was introduced and wait times for killers were hell. BHVR even tried to remove bloodlust (test it on a weekend).Their words were "adapt" and even mock killers leaving.
But once their side is touched, they started crying and bhvr in this case did changes to their side only (pain res, call of brine and overcharge remain the same) but still say the game is killer sided.
Hardcore mode, one hit down, no scratch marks or aura reading perks, darker maps and no killer noise radius.
i love the conversations we are having in the comments. keep it up! lets keep it friendly, though. its not an argument, its a conversation.
Two points; it is no secret "X is Dying" is a buzz phrase. The media and communities are drawn to this phrase. This is not saying how they feel about it, but there is a strong pull to this phrase, REGARDLESS of its validity. You've given very little hard evidence that this is true, mostly this is all speculation. Which is fair.
Second point; new gamemode. This is not throwing Bhvr a bone or anything, but something I've been circulating wherever I go when stale gameplay comes up. The big ARPGs I tend to play have leagues or ladders, akin to seasons, each with some unique gameplay element or Unique Selling Point. Thinking about the cheapest option that actually adds something instead of "interact with shiny statue", add a permanent buff/boost to both sides. An interesting example for build variety, "All survivors have X Perk & All killers have Y Perk". This isn't to say they WILL do it, but thinking in the way a developer acts, specifically look at what path game devs have made in the past for things, they typically pick the easiest or least invasive solution. What do I mean? Would you rather they nerf Dead Hard to break the meta or have other perks buffed to match Dead Hard in terms of appeal? Nerf one perk or buff….whatever number we're on now. See what I mean? While I would rather pick door number two any day of the week, and I do agree they care too much about balance at this point the detriment of fun, I think flipping the table at this point could breath life into it. I'm thinking of those wacky game modes, like Overwatch had a "Fast Ultimates" playlist. It was stupid busted but I enjoyed it and queued for more. If everyone is broken, then it is still balanced, just fun.
Getting Jason will revive the game. Simple as that plus I used to be really wanna play this game back when I watched Markiplier play it with Bob, Sean, and Wade and when I finally got it I found it really boring and honestly unfun. I always get brainded survivors and then pro killers. I played with a friend and we honestly just got off after one match cause everyone sucked ass and the killers was being extremely toxic. I like the evil dead game way more.
I’ve taken a break since skull merchant 3 gen crap and I really don’t feel a need to come back to it. It’s just not fun anymore, and I’ve been tied to this game since the beta because I thought the concept of the game was so cool. But it’s lost it’s charm after the skull merchant release. Here’s the ironic thing. The moment people start saying the game is dying or the game is dead. Somehow the devs make a banger the next chapter and we all come back because it’s fun again. I took a similar break during the 6 painful month period when twins and trickster came out. I felt the same way as I do now, but then the devs brought it back with the resident evil chapter. Only time will tell if history repeats itself and the devs only have two bad chapters in a row, and the game is saved by the third one. Or will this be the first time it is three bad chapters in a row, and who knows what will happen then
oh thats sick I learned about Harrison Bergeron in my english class a couple weeks ago.
Honestly personally it's just repetition. After a while the core gameplay starts to get boring the more you play,
you can only run around a piece of wood so many times,
before you pull your hair out. Sometimes I just need a break from the game and play something else, and when I come back I'm having fun again.
Now you can say this for just about every game out there. However you have to realize that DBD follows the same live service model as games like GTA online and Fortnite.
What those games have done correctly is keeping their player base interested in the game with new content, not just cosmetics but different game modes and items for the player to mess around with. Now don't get me wrong I love my Feng Min cosmetics as much as the next guy, but can we get new gameplay items like potions, flare guns or magic artifacts. Maybe a new game mode where survivors work together in an elaborate way to kill the killer. Perks can only really do so much, at the end of the day this game just needs fresh content to kill the repetition.
When bhvr fixed stretched res I understood that game will get more “balancing changes” that will make it boring and I was god damn right lol
I left the game about 3 years ago but came back just over a week ago because my friends wanted to learn it. I haven't really had any toxicity (I'm on xbox so don't see post game chat), in fact i went against a Michael player and she messaged me saying i was the best survivor she's faced and asked for tips so I've started showing her how to be a better killer and survivor. My group may be a four stack but some are noobs but one of my friends has picked up how the game works quickly. You can learn to deal with a bunch of the bullshit strategies or do ye olde git gud.
I'm having way more fun than i used to years ago because I've stopped giving a shit if i die. It would be way more fun if they introduced a new game mode, maybe one that pits survivors against each other to be the last one standing. I'm not sure what behaviour could do with the mechanics they have in the game right now. They could do a 2v8 mode but that does seem kind of unfair towards survivors if the killers work together
I stopped playing Fortnite long time ago I started Season 3 Chapter 1 and stopped with deadpool. and DBD needs to add new original killer if they already made also Survivor too add it once a Month Just a Paragraph and 3 to 5 changes to perks and maps too
