Dead By Daylight features gameplay elements that are locked behind a paywall and provide a competitive advantage over someone that doesn’t pay – UNDENIABLE FACT
Maths in this video:
It takes 35 Hours aprox for someone to earn a character for 9K Iridescent Shards.
It takes 80 Hours aprox for someone to earn a Very Rare cosmetic.
It takes 455 Hours with a perfect shrine to unlock all licensed perks at tier 1
It takes 350 Hours total to unlock all unlicensed Killers in DBD.
It takes 385 Hours total to unlock all unlicensed Survivors in DBD.
It takes 735 Hours total to unlock all unlicensed characters in DBD.
After all those hours, you will still be missing 11 licensed Killers and 12 licensed survivors.
It takes 2800 Hours total for a cost of 720K Iridescent shards to have all licensed perks at Tier 3 with a perfect shrine that has all perks at all times.
As of the date of release of this video, it is impossible to unlock: Deadlock, Eruption, Call of Brine and Reassurance. Perks that are widely regarded as being overpowered. There are more perks that have never appeared in the shrine, yet they are skipped because they are not regarded as very strong.

REMINDER: Behaviour is a multi million, successful company. They don't need you to white knight them in the comment section, nor they care about you besides as a costumer. So please, if you want to discuss a point or you disagree with anything I said in this video, I accept that as long as you don't disrespect me or anyone else.
The maths behind this video can be found in the description. The number in the thumbnail is the combination of both grinding for all characters, and grinding for all licensed perks. In other words, this is the number behind the phrase: "You can grind for almost everything in the game just by playing" which by the way is impossible with the current Shrine of Secrets.
The game is not strictly Pay 2 Win. I never said as long as you don't have deadlock, you cannot win. I say that Deadlock is a competitive advantage over someone that doesn't have it. If you can win with free perks in high MMR, become a streamer and show the world how good you are and how you don't need Meta perks like Eruption, Call of Brine or Reassurance like the competitive players do.
I don't care that this is a "casual" game. Fortnite is a casual game and there are no gameplay elements locked behind a paywall. In this game, there are. Maybe you can't grind for Ghostface for free, but that doesn't matter because you have The Nurse. But you cannot get The Nurse with Lethal Pursuer, and that is my problem.
Considering the fact that the game has a battle pass, a DLC every three months, plenty of paywalled licensed characters AND PAYWALLED PERKS THAT ALTER THE GAMEPLAY AND ARE META, what is the excuse for having overpriced cosmetics in a PAID game?
Even if the cost to unlock Deadlock was 1 dollar, that doesn't remove the fact that the game is built on Pay 2 Win monetization schemes. Combine this with my past video about limited time cosmetics, and we have a game preying on two scummy monetization tactics.
The game IS UNFAIR for new players. The game IS UNFAIR to casuals. Even if you don't care, it doesn't remove that fact. Yeah the game can be fun without paying, Clash Royale is too. Watching paint dry is also fun with friends.
If you still defend Behaviour even after admitting all of this… I wish you the best on earning that brilliant Fog Whisperer status!
What is BHVR email? To send/spam this video link every 4 hours
I didn't realize how expensive this game is. My friends and I buy DLC together and share the library, so the cost of all the content was not noticeable to us, but now I understand. I am especially frustrated by time-limited cosmetics. This is bullshit. And Fog Whisperers won't even mention it, because I suspect they have no right to criticize the game's monetization.
I got the game for free from playstation. I buy DLC when its on sale so like $1/$2 lol
This reminds me of those jokes that are like, “Don’t worry, the anime gets good at episode 7435! Just give it time!”
Another thing to note is that when a Tome is active, perks needed for the Tome Challenges will be thrown into the Shrine of Secrets, which effectively reduces the odds of getting the perks you need even more since 2 of the Perk Slots will always be dedicated to the Tome.
the shrine problem could be "resolved" if they made every shrine a "popular choice" where the community could choose which ones will appear by voting
Okay, here comes a big reply, half a day in the making, but tl;dr this video misrepresents a lot of stuff and is sometimes just plain wrong.
First it’s a stretch to claim that those buying the game new are limited to 30% of the killers at best, the Ultimate Edition which incorporates the Killer Expansion Pack at a discount, includes 16 unlicensed killers up to and including Trickster, giving you 55% of the current roster (excluding Demopuppy) and 84% of Behaviour’s original killers only excluding Artist, Dredge and the newest killer Knight.
You also bring up CoD, whose multiplayer is typically short lived, lasting till the next CoD drops unless the community deem it inferior and stick around, whilst DbD has more in common with MMOs and persistent online games where they add new classes, mechanics, maps and so on to extend the life of the game. Personally, I’m happier paying $6 to $12 every three months to play DbD’s newest content over $70 (for the standard edition) every year to start over completely with the latest annual release of a military shooter or sports game, to say nothing of the fact they all still have microtransactions and premium unlocks.
And even then, you still have to unlock things in these games, you don’t just start with the best players or all class abilities or weapons unlocked, you still have to grind or pay to gain (randomised) access to these things.
Yet I will admit that isn’t as bad as single player games like Assassin’s Creed having paid experience boosters or Disney Dreamlight Valley having premium currency that can be bought with real money.
But no player new to the game should be jumping into metabuilds before they even understand how the game’s various systems function and at worst their MMR may skyrocket them into higher ranks where SWFs precede to clown on them until the successive escapes see their MMR drop down, during which time they’ll have no doubt posted about the game being survivor sided or quit outright for diving straight into the deep end before they were ready.
Also we’re not lying to ourselves, if you can’t ‘win’ games as killer without a metabuild that’s a poor showing of skill and for many of us a killer’s power and add-ons are more than enough.
Yes, there a perks that can really make thing easier for certain killers, like Plague and Legion running Thanataphobia or Trapper and Hag running Corrupt Intervention or Huntress, Trickster and Artist running Iron Maiden, but it’s not remotely necessary.
A lot of this video stinks of the growing gamer entitlement we’ve seen since in the decades since free2play became a thing. Not every multiplayer game needs to be free2play, by that logic, DbD should shift into battle royal or looter shooter because tons of other series with microtransactions have done so. At the very least give Trapper a gun that fires beartraps as we welcome even more games blurring into an indistinguishable mess, “Winner winner Entity’s dinner!”
… or y’know, just buy the DLC you lazy peasants, like I did today when I literally spent just over $100 for all of a dancing game’s DLC and you don’t see me making a video complaining about how ‘unfair’ it is… maybe stop paying a minimum of $70 annually for the latest CoD and buy 10+ DbD Chapters instead?
As you highlighted, DbD has specifically suffered when it’s been free because it gets flooded with hackers, to which you conclude, “Hurr durr hackers can still buy the game or make multiple accounts for multiple free copies” but eventually they’ll get bored or run out of money slash alt accounts with free copies.
Survivor time, again, 17 original survivors (and Bill) up to and including Yun-Jin are available in the Survivor Expansion Pack and thus Ultimate Edition for new players, giving you 80% of the Behavior’s efforts (and Bill) and 56% of the overall survivor roster (now with Bill but excluding Steve and Nancy). Beyond the licensed killers, you’re otherwise only missing out on booners Mikaela and Jonah, the under-appreciated Haddie and daddy Vittorio, which outside of Mikaela and Vittorio aren’t much to write home about metawise. Also Jonah’s Corrective Action is for veterans to use around baby survivors, not for the baby survivors to equip themselves, meanwhile I’d argue Leon’s Rookie Spirit is to give an edge to new players who only joined the game for Resident Evil, sorta like Mettle of Man before it was nerfed.
Also, survivors building against certain playstyles isn’t as practical as it is for killers, because outside of a new killer’s release week you rarely have any idea of your opponent’s power, perks or playstyle. You could load up ready to be the most effective healer possible only to be matched against the Plague or take Head On only to be evading the Dredge or take Calm Spirit and never encounter the Doctor or scream perks, and so on.
You also skip over the fact players can use Custom Game to test every perk at Tier 3 and admittedly we don’t have bot killers yet, but I’ve been using it to test killer builds a lot recently and prior to that to test survivor builds when I could convince a friend to play killer for us.
Also you keep mentioning the Special Edition, released way back in 2017, which has since been superseded by the Stranger Things Edition, Silent Hill Edition and Ultimate Edition.
Furthermore, the total you provide later for all the characters is around $20 too much or $40 too much including the base game, when bought through Steam or Epic, but you may be including the now defunct Stranger Things Chapter and the 4 cosmetic DLC, or else you might be referring to console prices? Regardless, that $20-$40 overquote isn’t accurate for a newcomer via PC at the very least.
Also the post you show for the time to unlock everything ignores BP earned from tome and event challenges and that time Prime Gaming subs were given 400,000 BP… oh and all the other millions of BP Behaviour hand out though the year 😀
And forget Chinese MMOs, most every MMO has more than a week’s grinding just for a single class, let alone seeing everything they have to offer.
I’m admittedly skipping the cosmetics section, there are plenty of arguments for and against them, the effort spent by employees to create them and then others to make sure they don’t have clipping issues (but invariably will in some niche instances), the effort spent getting licensed cosmetics approved, you don’t have to buy them and yet stealthy cosmetics advantage, blah blah, etc etc.
Ultimately, I feel your ‘newbie first’ argument comes across as similar to someone wanting Games Workshop to just hand newcomers a 5,000 point army of pre-painted and assembled miniatures to play with without investing any real time or money into the game, simply to put them on equal footing with veteran players that they shouldn’t even be going up against (for now).
Sorry Minty, but this upload is rife with misinformation and questionable takes, which has me questioning if there was similar stuff in your previous vids that I just never bothered to double check?
I'm actually agree with you in some cases but you can bought the first tier in the shrine and you can upgrade it using blood points
Just make it free to play like on game pass
Since they haven’t brought cross progression yet I refuse to buy killers and cosmetics I had on console, so I have the newer chapters on PC and the older ones on console it’s a nightmare switching back and forth lol
Yea, I found out how bad the problem is when switching to pc. Thanks for letting evryone know👏
Mintskull you are so determined and you speak your mind, it's kinda hot not gonna lie 😳
(In seriousness, thank you for shining a light on this. I've known BHVR is just a shit company for years
especially if you look at the other games they've tried to make in the pastso I'm just used to their shenanigans at this point. But for the new players, this is an important topic and a change would definitely be great even though I'm a veteran player. Possibly changing the Shrine of Secrets so you can get any teachable perk at any time with prismatic shards would be a not super hard change that would increase the quality of life tremendously.)POV: that one dbd streamer who has played years of dbd without any perks
The thing with limited time cosmetics it's just crazy. I mean for the paid part of the Rift(/Pass) is that the cosmetics could and maybe WILL reapper later in the store. The latest case is the Pig and Detective Tapp cosmetics. You buy them then, you arr among few people that are "cool" enough to show them in a lobby, only to be available later in the future… idk what to say
As a player thats started a year ago, i clearly can say that the shard system is the biggest problem of this game.
I hugely disagree a lot with most of the permanent complaining train of the community. But video isn't that, it's not only entierly legit but important content.
Huge thank for the work on this !
I'm new to get game, started playing about 8 months ago. I played dbd mobile first then i decided to buy the pc version for better controls and experience. I was pumped at first, i wanted to grind and unlock each survivor and killer by playing the game. Then i realized how long it'll take me to just unlock 1 survivor/killer (because I only game between 1-3 hours a day after work) i said "fuck it" and just bought the chapters on Steam. I waited for a Steam Sale though , made sure it was at the lowest sale then i bought the stuff.

meanwhile otz : 🤨🤡
In DBD mobile you can actually get auric cells from daily and weekly rituals, which is pretty nice, but doesn't change the fact that it runs and performs terribly, is badly optimized, and is missing almost half the content the standard game has (Trickster is the most recent killer there)
The fact you spend 12 hours in a day with almost nonstop gameplay (just queuing and queuing right after a match) and getting not even 1/4 of 9000 it's pure insanity. (Speaking from personal experience)
