This is a video I’ve dreamed of making for so long and finally I’ve got the chance to. Items have no reason to be as powerful as they are and the developers don’t see this as a problem so I’d like to share the flaws of items to you all to hopefully bring the discussion back!

Instead of toolboxes being obtainable, make them only come from chests to give chests more use

Items and addons should not be ablr to Match the samr rare so a purple medkit can have not busted addons on top
i have around 500 hours in survivor and i dont really ever use toolboxes unless i'm sabotaging, and even then i only get them from chests …. have i just been missing out on free wins?
I literally just got done watching Skermz and his three friends use all brand new parts and they got a match done in two full minutes against a Dredge who couldn't do anything to counter it. The fact that I see this in my recommended afterwords is ironic. It's so true.
Make all items and add ons unlimited, killer and survivor. Now there can only be one of each item. One medkit, one toolbox, one flashlight…however killers can bring best add ons whenever they want. Balance
I think you bring up a lot of great points but I don’t think that items need to be nerfed that hard. I have ~1000 hrs on the game and I play about 70/30 survivor mostly but I do play killer. I think items at their base are fine, it’s the addons that make them broken. I think nerfing the addons, instead of the items themselves would be better than both. Say you completely nerf survivor items, that doesn’t stop killers from bringing addons that are absolutely busted just because they can, which then puts survivors at a disadvantage. This is mostly looking at medkits, but you can look at toolboxes like this as well. Survivors have toolboxes to counter the perks that a killer can bring. There a ton of checks and balance systems in this game. If you nerfed one, I feel you would have to nerf all of the buffs they made to killer perks (which isn’t necessary) because of how oppressive some killers can be. The toolbox addons are the problem, not the toolbox. Even some of the weaker killers can be oppressive with the right addons and perks (tombstone Myers’s lol)

As a dedicated killer main who mildly enjoys playing survivor, I don't bring items. I'm not a hoarder, I'm just not a fan of the way certain items make me, and the people around me, feel. When I play killer, I always bring addons but they're usually yellow or brown. For some reason, green addons just aren't as good. Perhaps we could balance toolboxes by putting tokens on them? You get 1 token per brown toolbox and when you touch any generator (using the toolbox or not) the token disappears. If you weren't able to use all the charges on the toolbox, you can no longer use the rest of the toolbox unless you're sabo-ing because it doesn't have any tokens left. That way it forces survivors to use all of the toolbox or none of it, making it that if the killer chases a survivor off of the generator, they can no longer use that toolbox? idk I'm just a killer
Why are we still crying for killer advantages? What’s the use of a green item that gives one heal and takes more than 30 seconds? Why would you use it…? Why…?

The noob bill who farms his team mates will not win because he has a green tool box, he will throw the game. I’m sorry if you think a skilled killer can’t play vs those players and ESPECIALLY if we are in a fair scenario where the killer is “skilled” as you said
Note: you use skilled for killer but not for survivor. add ons strong for survivor but not for killer.

Why does everyone see dead by daylight as a COMPETITIVE game. I get that their is people who take the game seriously and host cringy sweatfests called custom games. But just because people take it seriously doesn’t make it COMP.
People take Minecraft seriously doesn’t make it COMP.? Dbd just doesn’t meet the requirements needed to be considered a fair and COMP game.
My hot take is that dbd was intended to be thrilling and unpredictable, I believed having busted Items and killers didn’t matter to much because dbd is just a killer game. Honestly I think it adds to the thrill of dbd knowing that I could get clattered by a stinky nurse main.
It’s not even my opinion, games that have busted items perks that heavily influence a game anything that can be heavily abused that was intentional just can’t be a comp game??
Imagine if I was playing CSGO Competitive scene and I could put a perk on that gives me a brief second of imortality and me whole team could use it

Oh boy.
Medkits should be altruistic based items that help heal others quicker and safer, like applying a Bite the Bullet type effect onto healing others. Alternatively you should still be able to use them on yourself, but through another player, I imagine you press a button while being healed and its like you let the player heal you with your own Medkit, speeding it up and losing your Medkits durability like you were healing someone else. Self healing just needs to go from Medkits.
Toolboxes should be a item used for sabotaging like they are now, but instead of making repairs quicker, you instead make them safer. I think they should be a defensive item against regression or detection, rather than an aggressive means to make generators go quicker. This way, should a killer have gen regression/slowdown, toolboxes can still counter them, but not be oppressive to killers that do not have much regression. For instance, repairing with a toolbox could silence repairs, and maybe prevent explosions from happening whilst using one, or they could charge up a separate bar that eats up any regression that may occur on the generator, acting like a shield/ward for the generator.
Lastly, Styptics and Syringes should be their own handheld one time use items imo, like firecrackers and flashbangs. This alone should add more counterplay. When using a Styptic, a small animation with audible opening and gulping of a pill bottle is heard, and the survivor does not make any grunts of pain while they are under the effects of the endurance, acting like a painkiller. While the Syringe makes a small animation too with the Syringe cap coming off and the injection both making noise, and like a mini Second Wind, Syringes should inflict Broken while they heal, just to telegraph more information.

im sorry but self care is still a killer perk in my opinion like i literally dont wanna save a survivor if i see them using it so i dont think we should compare its time to normal healing that can be already extended with killers’ perks or addons also maybe its just me but i see items as a temporary 5th perk like instead of wasting a spot for a boon or that locker healing perk i will bring a medkit and heal myself once or twice or use it on my teammate after unhooking them (like we’ll make it), instead of prove thyself that i cant use because i end up on a gen by myself – toolbox for like 20-30 seconds to replace that person or when i dont care that much about saboteur i will also bring a toolbox because most of the time its just for a challenge for me since im solo q most of the time so i sabo anything at the end of the game but yeah same with killers kinda like i mentioned previously instead of sloppy butcher i will bring some better addons on my legion etc etc and on killers i think you get even more good stuff because instead of going through useless luck offerings and individual addons for every item you won’t even use you just get everything for your power so thats also worth mentioning
on the other hand im so confused when im queuing for a match and i see none of my teammates holding an item since theyre so cheap now which brings another problem for me 20 minutes long leveling up because of how easy it is to earn 60k-90k bloodpoints per game now

Med-kits did not seem nearly as broken before Circle of Healing was introduced and they're still the same med-kits. The problems DbD faces are always more to do with stacking things together and bizarre interactions. The stack for genrushing is about to get even more insane with Vittorio's Potential Energy perk.

Great video, well done, I wish bhvr sees this lol, also some perks and addons balance changes would be cool, off the record, eruption, range and alchemist ring need some changes.
A good move would be to make items require setup, like when you want to use a toolbox, you place it next to the gen, take out tools (and place them on the ground too) and THEN you are ready to go. When the gen is finished, anyone can pack back the toolbox and proceed to the next gen. Same thing with medkits, u place one down, use it, pick it back up. This is a nerf and a buff at the same time since you can't move an item, you have to heal in one place, hoverwer charges can be removed completely cuz stuff like screwdriver or scissors is reusable. The only exception would be sabotaging, then you just need a simple saw and there's no need for setting up.
Allies cant heal without medkits but to make up for this medkits are spread across the map in plentitude so the survivor can choose wether to hold a medkit or hold a toolbox/flashlight etc. There is already something like this with Wesker and Nemesis' abilities.
Another variation is to remove medkits from the bloodweb and make them base kit, make medkits part of your inventory (like the Onryo's video tapes) and you can only hold 1 at a time.

Also on top of it Boon:CoH can double speed so instead of 16 second heal to only 8. Like WTF how is that fair. Also syringes can be used when medkit has like 1% of use. So you have full purple medkit and insta-heal on top of it. Toolboxes… Oh boy
Survivors complain about 4 gen slowdown but when they have 4 green toolboxes + Brand new part they just shut up. I think the maximum speed of toolbox should be 35% or 15%. I dont know how would I balance brand new part

(Imo) For the brand new part you should NEED to hit both difficult skill checks for the add-on to work and for the speed add-ons they should decrease some of the charges depending on the rarity and for the add-ons that add charges such as wire spool should decrease the speed at which the gen goes like 1% if brown or 1.5% if yellow the sabotage add-on are meh because I rarely see them as killer and I don't find use in them when playing survivor (another idea I had for Brand new part was make the skill checks like merciless storm but if they fail the add-on will punish them by taking away their item )
