I would say "trying" something is experiencing something for the first time. Or putting effort towards something to better yourself. A goal.
"Trying" = Doing
You can succeed or fail at something whilst having tried it
So yes, it has to do with experience in the vein of "You gain experience from doing"
"I tried" is usually a rhetorical 'excuse' but when you dissect the word's inherent self-contained meaning rather than its linguistical use means "I did something", but since we (societally and thus culturally and linguistically) define success as having 'done something successfully' rather than 'having learned and understood something', it becomes a negative to have just 'tried it' rather than succeeded at it
