  1. I think there’s an idea in fiction that it’s harder to build empathy with someone when you can’t see their face / expressions. Hence why Michael Myers’ mask is so unsettling, you don’t really know how he feels about his murders, he’s a blank canvas for interpretation. But you’re supposed to feel empathy with survivors because they’re the default normal people, and would be the protagonists of most horror movies. Also, in the case of licensed characters, you’re literally paying for their licensed face so it’s important that they don’t cover that unless the mask / lack of face is their most recognizable feature.

  2. I think the part that bothers me the most about Gabriel's outfit is that you can see actual human models using the covered mask on Toba Landing. Basically, when they could have reused assets to make a skin for Gabriel, they instead went out of their way to make the skin look worse.

  3. I'm throwing a wild guess here, but I think the reason they don't do masks is to make survivors easier to tell apart. Since you don't get a hook tracker, they're trying to make it easier to remember who got hooked. Stupid reason, but it's the only thing I could come up with.

  4. i love masks as well. they are amazing and great. but you know what i hate. FOR SOME BLOODY REASON so many videogames make the masks in a way where you can still see the characters eyes and skin below in the eye holes of the mask. this. looks. beyond. stupid.
    Just make the eyeholes black or at least a lot darker. why is that a thing that videogame devs keep doing. it's such a rookie mistake and it makes the masks unusable. which is a shame since i LOVE masks and the mystery they bring to a character ;-;

  5. Some other games have a toggle option for things like face masks or hoods and stuff like that. Largely referencing LoL here but that would be a neat way to bridge the gap. Give that dwight helmet a up or down mode. Give Yui a goggles-down and scarf/bandanna covering her mouth as a desert or winter theme, and toggle the goggles being on her head or face. Give my man Jonah the option to take off those sunglasses while we are at it, expanding this function to work the other way around as well.

  6. Wow my eyes have been opened to a problem I didn’t even know I had. Now I want a survivor who’s face is masked in every cosmetic and their face is a mystery

  7. I'm thinking in general because survivors are just skins as well, their identity is pretty much the most important part of their body. They maybe tried it a couple times with Meg and decided nah, we don't really wanna anymore

  8. As a mask enjoyer I would love to have full masks on survivors, however I think they keep the survivors face visible or at least partially visible to show their humanity, and the killers got masks to show how they lost their humanity and are closer to monsters than actual human beings.

  9. I think a reason they would not want to put masks on survivors is because that would mess up the mori on them… think for exemple about Pinhead, Doctor and Singularity moris… it would look pretty weird.

  10. Meg has 3 full masks, she also has the boop the snoot mask. I was about to buy that outfit for Soma too until I seen the visor was see through. Lost $10 from me.

  11. I would argue its for identifying Survivors but everyone relies on screams/injured-gasps and even then they all share the same body type. My only guess is that they've found more success in hairstyles than anything else.

  12. I 1000000% agree, the only fucking good mask for survivor is the yui one with the "covid" face mask and it looks alright (but its community made 💀)

  13. hiding killers faces like that kinda dehumanize them making them hard to read and scary, while for survivors they probably want you to see their expression clearly to feel their fear and pain. meg is the only exception and therefore probably not a human

  14. Dude this is so relatable, I’m a sucker for cosmetics. I been thinking about pitching a mirrored visor motorbike helmet for yui. Not only does it fit the lore, but it would look sick

  15. Man i was so weirded out by that Gabriel Soma skin, even the dead bodies in the space ship map have proper helmets that cover their face. So it does seem like a huge inconsistency that Gabriel doesnt even if its broken.

  16. I think it's probably so that killers running obsession perks can identify their obsession. A lot of characters look similar so if they start covering faces it would be harder for players not completely familiar with all the models.
