  1. I've never used anon mode mostly bc i don't think about it and I'm not usually the one throwing salt. I've received salt on xbox but 90% of messages i get r wholesome ppl. My own direct xbox settings actually censors alot of ppl in dbd with the name just being a bunch of asterisks* so i don't really have to worry if i stream. I don't worry about anon mode for myself bc i don't have ttv in my user bc it costs money to change usernames on xbox and i rather not waste my money tbh. Besides i hardly ever stream bc i suck at keeping schedules lol

  2. "how would making opponents names anonymous keep stream sniping to a minimum?"

I think it's the idea that some stream snipers often want the attention and to be recognised on stream. Hiding their names makes it less appealing.

  3. yeah you could leave names on and just wait to ban people only after they go doing something toxic towards someone else but by the time you would ban said person the damage would've already been done. Just hide names and help prevent it

  4. Listening to this video left me feeling a bit comforted and validated in a small way, especially 6:12, because I choose to play on Anonymous mode (as in, me myself) only because I don’t want to deal with the community being toxic if the way I played a game made them angry. And the thing is, I DO agree with some of the anti-anon takes, because I have seen players who acted incredibly toxically during a match who used anon mode, and almost definitely did it to hide themselves, so it is very abusable and I can attest to that. But it’s also people like that who lead to me getting targeted in matches for being on anon mode; I once outplayed a streamer during 2v8 who got salty about it, accused me of teabagging at the exit gate (I didn’t), and insulted me on their stream for “hiding behind my profile.” Likewise, I’ve also gotten directly BMed by killers basically just for being on anon mode because other players have abused it. It’s extreme, but I am the kind of person who lets that get to me and lets myself wonder if I’m in the wrong for using anon mode, so it was just comforting to see this video honestly.

It was these feelings and experiences that are why I didn’t reply in this discussion, just because most of my thoughts were shrouded in that specifically.

Also, such a based take to speak up against bigoted talking and BMing; my experiences related to that comes from elsewhere besides DbD so I won’t go further, but I appreciate that being your take very much 👍

  5. The problem is, people like to hide their toxicity when they can. So, anonymous mode just makes it way too easy to not get a negative reputation for playing terribly. It was one of the worst things to be added to DBD, imo. Good intentions, meet hell kind of situation.

  6. I had several dozen or so instance of being being toxic and taking the toxicity outside of the game, 2 instances of getting ddos. and another 2 where these people would go through my profile and find my friends in real life and social media related to my steam profile and harassed us outside on another platform..

since anon was introduced, I turn on anon mode on even tho i don't stream or record, I do it for my own wellbeing tbh. not constantly being paranoid about potentially running into the same swf group over and over on killer because they have similar names, takes the pressure off . thankfully i play in a good sized region now and wider queue since I haven't been try harding for ages, so its rare to run into the same group even at night. .and on survivor it doesn't affect me tbh. if i stream I'd probably just keep things anon too just for everyone's sake.

  7. I don’t think names should be hidden. I think people should be adults & understand friendly competition or even competition in general once the match is over they are no longer your enemy, they are somebody you don’t know so saying something to them or harassing them is just weird. Move on about your day & if they continue bugging you block them. Bang bang EZPZ. Alittle shit talk isn’t bad but you don’t gotta bring personal things or things outside of the game into alittle shit talk just say your 5 or 6 words let them say there’s then back out & move on.

  8. 9:25 they mean if you are a survivor and snipe a killer when you load into the lobby you dont see the killers name but if you as a killer turn on anon mode they cant see their own name in the lobby (They completly forget that you can quickly change cosmetics or items to verify if you are in the lobby or not but, welp)

  9. Ye xbox has no anon mofe unfortunatly. We have the setting to tuen it on but due to Microsoft being a bunch of dumbasses, they amdd it that annon mode on dbd does jack shit which is a bit annoying. Also not related to the video but if you have anon mode on, you shouldn't see EGC or see other player names 😅.

  10. For the context of my comment, I am more so talking about streaming with Anon mode. If you are making a video dedicated to a person's salt or actions, then blurring their names would be the logical solution, to not only protect their identity but also to prevent bad people from getting attention, cause some people do believe that even bad publicity is still publicity. (Also, why does everyone keep calling me Gambino… just cause how my name is spelled…)

  11. I use anon mode to hide my own name because random people online can be insane. I don't want anyone harassing me or my Steam friends for playing a killer they don't like or accidentally bringing a killer to their gen as survivor.

  12. Let me ask streamers this question: Would you like your learning/horrible moments to be streamed to an unknown amount of people for you to be laughed at or used as part of someone else's highlight reel?
It's a hypothetical question, and all answers are subjective, but if you are going to be upset about how a jilted person retaliates, maybe you should be a little introspective.

  13. 20:49 yeah saying you should always see the name regardless of anonymous mode, DEFEATS THE PURPOSE of anonymous mode… You silly little goose you 😭💀💀 the one who said this is indeed naive and shows your insecurity probably to SOME extent lol cope harder

  14. I play with anon because I don't have anything to show, I guess? I set cringy names and go off anon when I'm playing with friends, to match with them, or when I'm doing some silly gimmick (bathroom Bubba, lunchbox thief, ear scratches or die, 5th survivor). I don't throw, don't bm, don't cheat, don't play like a rat. I'm just. Introverted. I'm bad at making friends.

I also don't use steam as a social media. My profile is literally empty aside from a pfp and frame – so I have no reasons to have it public.

Recently I had several homophobes almost back to back, slugging and humping me because I had a silly rainbow flag (no, I don't run cringe perks like boil over, I didn't "bully" or anything; I carry iron will, botany, strength in shadows and bond with no items, unless it's a bully build now). I'd rather not have them have other ways of harassing me. Makes me think though, what is more fruity. Simulating say gex or having a rainbow flag. hmm

I did get hackusations because I'm on anon though. Many killers don't realize how close you need to be to Alucard to land a m1 & that the cape has no hitbox. Or bc of my favorite mindgame – leave the tile while the killer is mindgaming. Or a guy who doesn't know how ghostface works accusing me of cheating on stream. For context I had him 99%-ed, finished the stalk when I got close to him, downed him, he went all "BUT I WAS LOOKING AT HIM, IS HE CHEATING?". Later also of stream sniping. Watching that vod was funny tbh
