Both for Killer and Survivor, ragequitters ruin the fun for everyone. While playing survivor, I'd much rather get a bot than a 3v1. When playing Killer, I used to let all the nonquitters go, but I reduced that to 1 'cause it happens so often.
Survivors that off themselves when there is 3 or 4 survivors left should get a penalty. Killers always get a penalty when they quit.
I don't DC. My internet does. And it always happens right after I finish a rift or daily challenge. 🙄
Make it so players can't self-unhook unless they've unhooked 1 person prior, completed 1 gen, or healed 1 survivor. Most instance of players killing themselves on hook is because they've been downed first/early. They want to quit then they can eat the penalty.
out of curiosity, how do you like your coffee?
I've Dc'ed once because I had lost track of time, and had to go pick up my kid from school. I thought I had time for a match, but nope.
I think the giving up on hook side of this conversation is super relevant and important to have right now because Skull Merchant was just nerfed into the ground because she supposedly has a 70% kill rate, even though many killers clearly out class her at almost every level of the game. That 70% rate is only that high because people just straight up don't want to play against her do to a wide range of reasons of varying validity (Scan lines not decaying is the MAIN problem people had and they didn't even touch that LOL). Some might say that if you remove giving up on the hook petty survivors will just run at you instead of eating a DC. I'd argue this give me an opportunity to match their pettiness and slug them for 4 minutes or ignore them for the whole match and make them more irate. Maybe the DC penalty could have a few changes as well to make the initial DC's less harsh? I'll take anything to make it so that I have fun match as both killer or survivor, and in turn make the statistics more arcuate and NOT rewarding peoples pettiness by having their apathy contribute to a potential killer nerf. Alternatively BHVR could stop looking at spreadsheets for massive balancing decisions but that in of itself is another massive conversation with its own nuances.
when it comes to people DC'ing, i wish the game knew the difference to when someone actually DC's vs when someone has a slight connection problem or something
What annoys me the most is people who give up immediately when they don't like the killer. Then that stupid bot kicks my ass. Jeez, I'm not that good, only got less than 300 hours. If you would have stuck around, you could have ran me around. Maybe they should implement a system of white or black list for survivor so they don't get qued up with a killer they don't like. This way you don't waste the time of everyone. And you will have to wait a long time to get the killer you want. Waste your time not everyone else's. Also my brother lives in a rural area and I can't even play when I'm out there. So yeah, slow internet is a thing. That I can understand.
I don't think the dc penalty matters.
First, it's not a competitive game. Some people treat DbD like it is some sort of competition. But the overwhelming majority are super casuals and this is evidenced by the sheer about of players that expect the other side to abide by their own house rules. So adding a harsher penalty to a super casual game with no stakes doesn't seem like a measured response to me.
Second, the games don't last that long. Especially in a game where someone disconnects. I can't imagine a team with a bot on it lasting more than 10 minutes. And a killer dc straight-up cancels the match entirely.
People are quick to go for the stick over the carrot when it comes to game mechanics. I think BHVR's time is better spent adding a reconnect feature for survivors, over making people with bad internet miserable with what boils down to a temporary ban. Banning someone for not spending enough on internet isn't a game mechanic I want to see in a party game. As for making current mechanics less abusable for giving up, I'm all for it. Maybe it will shift player behavior.
Hello
First, thx for sharing your thoughts !
I noticed, like a lot of players, that during the last couple of weeks, maybe months now, there's way more people DCing / going next by dying on the hook… for unknown reasons.
The current state of the game is pretty nice to play on both sides, there's no very oppressive meta in any side rn so idk why people suddenly started to go next more.
The only thing I can think of is the wave of new players due to the 2v8 succes, but it seems to happen to very different kind of players, regardless of the MMR, so I'm not even sure about this.
Anyways, I agree with you that skyrocketing DC penalty won't fix anything, especially with people having issues not linked to the game itself. Anti-facecamp mecanic is the best example, it only made people going from face camping to to proxy camping, it just moved the issue somewhere else.
However, I also think that the current system could be better in order to detect people with specific issues like internet one, motion sickness, phobias… to help them handle / identify these problems, and separate them from people just giving up because the game doesn't go the way they would like to.
The idea of letting the 4% only being usable when 15 sec on the hook are left is a good idea, I even think that it could be completely removed if you don't bring perks related to self-unhooking.
It could also be allowed only when all players in a game are in critical state / hooked, as a last ressort to make a come back.
I read on Twitter some people suggesting to not punish people trying to go next after somebody made the game unwinable, mostly about scenarios when someone goes next when still 4/5 gens are still up.
Idk what to think about this, I think this is more a case-by-case situation, depending on multiple factors, but I understand people not wanting to play anymore after dc happening.
Thanks for anyone who read that, any opinions about these ideas ?
the dc penalty imo should just be removed, we have bots now that take over and if someone doesnt want to play a match they will find a way to quit, if uve ever played mobas griefing is very conmon that happens if ppl are forced to stay in
Maybe the player just need some time to cool off, bad string of matches would infuriate anyone, but waiting an hour, or more isn't going to than change the mentality from, I'll just chase the killer, to intentionally get hooked, just to get out of the game, to avoid said timer and than go to next. Basically, I would cap DC wait to no more than 10-30 minutes. Maybe the player just needs some time to cool off, and go you know, it won't always be a SWF, or same map/killer multiple times without an offering. I give this example, cause I mentally check out after the 2nd game, doing either regardless. Same map, same killer in a row, even without map offerings, just annoys me to no end personally. Or matches where the other survivors treat gens like aids, I don't care if people get caught early. Idk how, or why, so I don't assume, but if its minutes into a match, and nobody has touched a gen, other than me, and I am working on getting downed a 2nd time, yea I rather just play next game as well. Nobody wants to waste there time.
I think first day's DC penalization should be really minor to actually make it more appealing to "normal players" , if they are having a rought time, don't want to play anymore or there's another things in their lifes to do.
I agree with 4% being a resource aviable on last 15 seconds of first stage; people that typically gives up on hook aren't really cooperative or tend to overestimated how much they know about a match state, and they, must of the time, prefer to have a more comfortable experience over anyone else, because the common excuse "i'll lost my bloodpoints if i DC" also, is a really selfish way to look at the game.
I've always thought DBD should have a punishment queue like other games; let people DC or give up on hook all they want, but if they do, they get put in matches with other quitters so the rest of us who actually want to play don't have our matches ruined.
I still by the idea that they should implement a 3 strike rule: you get 3 freebies and on your 4th DC you start getting the penalty as usual. That way they appease anyone who lost connection or had to leave due to irl stuff a few times before punishing the player
The main issue I have with the dc penalty is it can give you long bans after only a couple dcs. I had dc’d twices within 3 hours a few days ago and got a 13 hour ban
THANN you for bringing up internet in rural areas 😭 we literally have one provider and cannot switch unless we pay for starlink. Our Internet is terrible and always has been, I've gotten up to day long dc penaltys because I had a few bad days of Internet and I was dcing too much within that short timespan :/ it's so frustrating, I can literally be about to run out an exit gate and sometimes it just kills my game. I lose all the blood points, whatever offerings or items I brought, and to top it all off, have to eat a dc penalty. It's so frustrating and ridiculous
I understand dcs are frustrating but I see so many dcs where they obviously just lost internet,, idk I think the bots are great and other than altruism they do rlly well sitting on gens and wasting time like you said, Idk why the penalty is still so harsh at all
I don't care if your internet sucks. When you sign up to play an online game it is YOUR responsibility to have a good connection. Stop living with Paul Bunyan and Tom Bombadil.
not this silly discussion again. it's a game. the community of this game has to make everything into something big unnecessarily
Hi Bran, Evening Guy here. with a nice choccy milk in a mug. I think the DC penalty is also fine as is, I said in the past i would increase the dc penalty but at the time I didn't really consider people having bad internet as an issue. I would say, i am kind of of a ping snob, so bad internet games do rile me up a bit. But i wouldn't hold that against people like you said who don't really have a choice in the manner. I think a big reason as to why there are so many DC's is that the matchmaking system prioritizes speed of matches versus matching people of more equal skill. I think alot of people load up into a match of DBD for alot of different reasons, some want to show off their skills and improve at the game, some want to be immersed and play the game like a horror game, and some want to do archives challenges, and of course some just want to meme and goof off after work or school. But you never really get to choose what the matchmaker prioritizes, it just prioritizes getting you a match as fast as possible with people around your MMR as close as possible, so if your trying to be an archive loremaster, well hope you enjoy a game full of wannabee comp blights for a night. I think alt gamemodes solve this issue a good bit, atleast for me i get way less DC's than in the normal mode, it still happens obviously, but nowhere near as much.
There should be no DC penalty. it fucks over everyone. I go into a game and a player decided oh killer has Lightborn Im out. Now in under 5 minutes we've lost a player and instead of having a bot to distract the killer and help with gens we just are fucked over. The DC peanlty hurts players who don't DC more so then the quitter.
They need to remove self unhook outside of perks and remove the struggle mechanic, make survs sit on hook and just don't give an option to give up and go next, you know, expecting people to actually play the game.
The only justified reason to quit a game is your opponents are cheating.
I wish devs would get this in their head.
Had some drama with town of Salem cause they gave me a strike for quitting a game with a known cheater.
Hell he even got a strike in that same game I quit for fucking cheating and they still would not let me appeal the strike.
I feel like DCing is better than killing yourself on hook nowadays since you can be replaced by a bot who will play
Honestly think they should just give up the DC penalty and make it so you get like maybe half blood points. We have Bots already and it's a lot better for people to DC then kill themselves on hook because at least the Bots will do something. I personally don't DC from any game even if it's a skull Merchant but it's always annoying when people just give up on hook
I mean we don’t derank anymore, haven’t for a long time. DC penalty, especially 24 hours is pretty retarded even back when deranking was a thing.
In my opinion there shouldnt be any DC penalty unless they decide to balance the game and make MMR very strict. Perhaps release ranked mode with those "new features" and keep current mode unchanged with no DC penalty. All madness that comes from this game is caused by unbalance. On survivors side bad team mates because MMR doesnt really work and on killers side swf that actually do gens and broken perk combos.
I think the people who KTS just need to drop way down in MMR so that all the quitters are grouped together and not put into matches of people who actually want to play and get points
I'm just very tired of getting into a match, being found in less than 20 seconds, not having my teammates touch a gen and unhooking me right in front of the killer. If I'm put in unwinnable situations so early on I'm just giving up cause it's not worth my time to stay in match seeing as I've only got a couple hours every couple days to play
There are bad mechanics in the game . Everyone knows there builds in the game combined with maps if you go in there and that killer burned that map and that build . Id rather not play the game then play that match .
Honestly, as annoying as a DC is- I say remove it all together. If it incentivizes people turning into bots instead of bodies, that gives other survivors a better chance. It's annoying to hook someone one time, watch them commit to eliminating themselves- and just knowing that the match is basically over before either side really got to play.
That being said, I thought of a nice compromise between people wanting to have the chance to save themselves and people not wanting to watch their teammates die on hook. Instead of having a small chance to unhook yourself on the first stage, you can do it guaranteed. The caveat is that when you do it, you have a debuff applied (either deep wounds alone or broken with an exhausted status of equal duration) and don't receive the normal benefits of being taken off the hook. This would force you to actually wait for the killer to leave or be distracted instead of getting away for no cost.
honestly i think dc pen as a whole should be removed we've gone overboard
honestly I'm fine with the person losing their rewards
you shouldn't be forced to play a game your not enjoying period
people who dont want to play just wont play I had 1 match where I think it was a killer I just don't enjoy playing against or alt it was baby team mates who just made me want to give up and the only reason I continued playing was the killer decided to be nice to me to avoid me from dc'ing I really hate the dc pen as it really don't stop shit if I want to give up ill either force the killers hand or just sit in game
dc penility just stops my team mates from getting a bot which would do much better then a statue
just dont touch the hook thing as it wont fix shit
truth is someone who don't care about the match they are more likely to hide in a locker and wait for the team to die
as stated remove dc timer and allow players to remove their rewards for a dc this gives the team a bot and also makes it so the player can enjoy themselves in another match
I'll be honest. As killer, if someone is trying to give up by simply being in the way, I just keep them in the match and play around them. You either DC and take the penalty or you don't queue up with me.
my toddler niece was in my room, she had diarrhea, i dc'd to save my bed and floor. mostly successful. minimal cleaning was needed.
i was playing survivor. <.<'
edit-give the hooked survivor a prompt to notify teammates no one is trying to save. there are times im on hook and a teammate is just doing a gen the killer is on the otherside of the map, two others are on a gen and the lone guy is near me and not going for a save.
sigh, thats when i tap out. there was a bad couple of consecutive games i got on hook and no one was going for the save and it got to me. the last two games teammates did run in my direction but it was too late. i already checked out. killer has its own frustrating problems, but solo survivor with selfish teammates…oi vay. i dont mind losing as survivor, i just dont want to be paired up with survivors who dont care about anyone else.
Dc penalty were initially there due to being down a player, the bots can be outright disgusting to face as a killer depending on which one you play like pyramid head or any projectile killer.
I would say a dc can be actually a pro rather than a con at times, dc’s should be gone. If people can just drop out, it would reduce frustration which usually reduces toxicity.
Just remove it.
"The problem can't be solved with ingame mechanics" thats 100% correct
Before bots people would dc since it wouldn't count as a kill for the killer and would stop them from getting kill related achievements evil incarnate was a lot harder to get before bots, now that's there's bots I see waay more give up on hook for what ever made up rule that was crossed " how can I make this worse for everyone involved" was always there mindset these types of people have a lot of real world problems they should seek help and sort out.
Imo just make disconnecting progressively reduce your bloodpoint rate, so if you start at 100% (normal) then dc'ing sets it 90-95% and each consecutive dc makes the number lower, make playing matches until completion undo 1 stack of the effect, also have the effect reset when the shrine does so you can choose to take a break and come back to enjoy the game
I used to believe in harsher DC penalties, and I still do for those who DC, however when you get into the higher mmr and start winning games, you will get game-booted/ddoses by salty survivor players.
This isn't an issue if you're running a VPN, but for console players, running a VPN can be unfeasable due to needing to Hotspot the VPN from another device.
Getting gamebooted essentially makes it appear as though you disconnected from the game, and therefore you get a DC penalty, lose your offering and any bloodpoints earnes, and the survivors get out with bloodpoints, and leave with their items.
