  1. In terms of a PvP horror game, I agree that the licensed killers make competing extremely hard. But I think if any game dethrones DbD, it will be a different asymmetric PvP game, not necessarily set in a horror setting. Think of it like the myriad of co-op games like L4D, Payday, Vermintide etc. They all are really similar in core mechanics but vastly differ in setting. That could be the case for DbD.

  2. basically, the devs ignore most of the gameplay issues and focusing on acquiring new players through dlc. by doing so, the game itself doesnt get as many "health pack" as current players would like therefore the game will be boring the more you play it :))

  3. I can bet RE survivor will have a chest related perk. XD…And there is gonna be Re players new to the game running to a chest hoping they can save their game, only to find a broken key.

  4. Meanwhile Friday the 13th fans are malding while they drown in a stagnant pool, yelling that their 69th costume of jason is enough to be considered 'content' in a dead game

  5. I think that any competition is only going to take away from the current DBD playerbase, at this point DBD is going to be most people's first experience with this genre. Because of this, I don't think that liscensing will change the main threat to DBD which is current players leaving for the competition

  6. The only thing that will make them work to fix the game is if all the Killers straight up left. That would make the wait times ridiculous and survivors lose their shit. The Dev's would be forced to make updates to keep the players, and bring other players back.

  7. "you can't beat it now that it has too many fandoms to compete with" scott you're not even taking into account how stupid the devs are and all the bad changes they've made since 2018. a lot of OGs barely play this game anymore because of how bad it's gotten.

  8. To me, the main jump a competitor could get would be if they somehow perfected the tension and scariness of DBD while doing something to address the somewhat pervasive issue of overfocusing a single player; something that doesn't affect the high-level competitive element but can still give what feel like unfair results, and gets many bandaids like BT and DS.

To give an example: Resident Evil Resistance (3's MP) was never great, but one thing I liked is that the resource you compete over is a central timer on top of the screen. Even if survivors "die" they respawn and that just cuts a huge part of the timer. If three survivors are continually abandoning one person to be killed, congratulations, you all lose because you'll run out of time from their respawn. A killer (mastermind) might even find that tunnelling a single person isn't even helping him win, and he doesn't even get the "1K" you'd get in DBD. Of course, I don't need anyone to point out how much that game lacks compared to DBD.

And of course, by being a new entry, they'd also get away from the DLC perk competitiveness issue, where you basically need to own certain DLCs like BBQ for bloodpoints, and are in a tough place if you don't have a decent collection of strong perks from other DLC characters – not to mention the bloodpoint grind that everyone goes through anyway. A really inventive solution would even have a singleplayer, but of course that's an even loftier goal to do right.

  10. Agreed. As a big Resident Evil fan, I'm super excited but I'm worried as someone who actually cares about DBD innovating and healthy competition pushing said innovation. If DBD gets like Jason and Pennywise, it's over for other games period. Someone who's interested in horror is more likely to drift towards DBD with all it's iconic Killers as opposed to any future/current competitor and with that guaranteed pull towards their game, there's literally no reason to truly evolve.

  11. These guest chapters are great for bringing in new eyes and players, but the one thing that's going to keep people playing is how good the actual game is, and let's be honest, the game is not functional.
